My grandad was cared for in Bracken house for around 3 months. The rooms are very very small and there are no en-suite bathrooms, all shared. Bedroom furniture is mostly damaged and not well maintained.
My grandad displays aggressive behaviour due to his dementia. Bracken house do not usually take
residents who display aggression, but after their assessment, agreed to take my grandad. Although most staff were lovely, they could not manage my grandad's needs or behaviour and I felt a lot of them didn't take the time to get to know him. Denture cleaning tablets were left in my grandad's room, which was never supposed to happen, and when he was unsupervised, he ate one of the tablets and needed to be taken to hospital. He also sustained a lot of bruising and when I asked how it had happened, no one seemed to know. I reported Bracken to safeguarding and CQC and I feel management put their staff and residents at risk by not admitting they could not manage my grandads behaviour and care needs sooner.

I yesterday had the pleasure of having lunch with my dear husband - which meant so much as my family are far away. As always the staff were marvellous - I was treated like "royalty" as I am on each visit. Having worked in the NHS for 40 years I have never experienced such wonderful care. These people

My lovely aunt passed on 6th May 2024. She'd been living at Bracken House for nearly 6 years. I know we wouldn't have had her with us for as long as we did without the love and care she received at Bracken. She settled in beautifully. The staff have been amazing, nothing was ever too much trouble, my
aunt's comfort was paramount. I knew she was in safe hands and if she was ever under the weather the staff would always call me to let me know and keep me updated as to her progress. I can fully recommend Bracken House, I'm so grateful to the management and all the staff for the wonderful care they've given to my aunt.

From the first day my father became a resident I have found all staff to be friendly and helpful. As my father's health has changed over the period he has been in Meadowyrthe, members of staff have changed and adapted to cater for his needs. I get regular updates by phone or in person from the staff
on his condition or any up and coming appointments. I have found the carers treat my father with respect and dignity, as if he were their own, which gives me great piece of mind.

Dad went there for respite first time since his Alzheimer’s diagnosis ten years ago. So I was obviously dubious. He spent a week there and was well cared for and happy. He was sitting doing a jigsaw with a member of staff when I went unannounced to pick him up. I am so grateful to one staff member in

My husband is currently staying here for respite and has settled quite well, staff are respectful, chatty, and always ready to help in any way possible, not sure how long he will be staying but I have no worries he's been looked after. No real concerns

The worst nightmare of my life. My husband got out of the premises. Three security doors then the front door and walked home. No one had any idea until I phoned to tell. He came into our house I thought it was an intruder and was going to be attacked. He was cold and carried a big bag of clothes with
him so grateful nothing happened to him. Can you just imagine the uproar that would have been.

My mother was here for temporary respite before going into a permanent care home. A difficult phase as Mum had lived at her home all her life. The staff handled her initial anxiety really well. When I visited they were always very respectful, chatty and cheerful with Mum. The manager, talked me through
Mum's file very well.
It was comprehensively and accurately written. Staff were also very responsive to requests. When I asked if I could take Mum outside in her wheelchair they transferred her by hoist as soon as they could. They were also very responsive when I phoned to ask how Mum was doing (I live far away).
Overall they provided a good level of care and were very welcoming and friend each time I visited.
