A wonderfully caring environment being provided to a relatively small number of residents. Hugely experienced medically trained staff with high levels of empathy and understanding. Nothing is too much trouble attitude to both residents and family members. Plenty of friendly staff working at all times.

Overall Experience

We visited this home and immediately knew it was perfect for Mum, and from the day she arrived she has been happy. The rooms are light and airy, very comfortable and feel like home rather than 'a care home'. We feel that all Mum's needs were taken into consideration from day one and before, with a home visit to ensure that her needs would be met. The care team at Austenwood are wonderful, including administive staff, the chef (the food is very good!) cleaning team, care team, activity team and maintenance. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is done with a smile. The activity schedule is full and varied and clearly a lot of fun for all, residents, staff and visitors alike. I would go as far as to say Mum is happier than she has been for some time and it has given us so much relief and pleasure to witness. Thank you everyone, please keep up the wonderful work.

A massive thank you to every single member of staff at Austenwood who made mum's (respite) stay so very special and for making her feel so welcome. From my initial contact with yourselves to meeting with you all, you have made a stressful situation so much easier and for that I thank you.

It is clear that Austenwood is a wonderful place to live and all the residents seem truly happy to be there. The rooms and facilities were great, the food superb, and the place was spotless. Mum enjoyed all the social activities including events, days out, sports, quizzes and so much more. All the staff were genuinely happy in their work and treated mum with kindness, care and respect.

Mum wants to return very soon and I will have no hesitation in using Austenwood again.

Review of Kingfishers Care Home from Sally P (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Kingfishers care home is such a special and often times magical place for my mother to be! Yesterday she told me how lucky she is to be sitting in the wonderful garden and how well looked after she feels! (My mum can be very cynical believe me!). It's not just the house itself with plenty of space and yet a cosy atmosphere; or the food which is home made and plentiful; or many parties with dancing fun .. it is by far the staff who make Kingfishers the best place to be. Always smiling and helpful, the staff work together to make sure every resident has what they need. They are the energy of the home creating a caring fun atmosphere every day! Yesterday, Nadia was wearing over size hoop trousers and residents were exercising hand to eye coordination by throwing bean bags in! The laughter was infectious! I love being with mum at Kingfishers it's a home from home.

Kingfishers has improved greatly since the present manager joined. She is very approachable and encourages relatives to approach her if we're not happy with something. The staff work very hard caring for our dad and are proactive with planning activities for the residents. Everyone is very friendly when we visit, which is most days! Most importantly, our dad is happy.

My late husband came back from hospital to Kingfisher's with palliative and end of life care. He had been in Kingfishers for 8 months before being admitted to hospital and all of this time he had been given excellent care delivered with compassion.
It was clear end of life was near and Roxana went out of her way to ensure he could come back to the Home with all the extra care that was needed.
He was able to show his gratitude when he did return - he was always happy at Kingfishers-and we his family cannot fault the care he had enabling him to have a very peaceful end to his life.

Thankyou Kingfishers too for the love and compassion you showed towards me and my family. I could not have chosen a better place to care for my husband when I could no longer do it.

Review of Kingfishers Care Home from P H (Son of Resident) published on 29 January 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mother has been a resident at Kingfishers Care Home since the end of July 2025, following a hospital stay. From the beginning, our experience has been very positive, and we feel reassured that she is receiving safe and caring support.
The carers and nursing staff are kind, patient, and respectful, treating residents with dignity and compassion. My mother has dementia and requires a high level of support, which the carers provide with understanding and sensitivity, including help during mealtimes when needed.
Kingfishers Care Home has a lovely, warm character and feels welcoming and homely. The home is clean, calm, and well maintained, with a pleasant atmosphere, especially when residents gather together in the dining room.
The new care home manager is very supportive and attentive to my mother's healthcare needs and arranges assessments when required and communicates clearly with us, giving us great peace of mind.

Overall, we are very happy with Kingfishers Care Home.

Over the last year there have been a few issues which have taken longer than expected to resolve.
My mother's granddaughter and great granddaughter wanted to visit on the way back from an event down south early onw Sunday morning, when myself and daughter phoned the home no-one was on hand to take the call to ensure my mother was up and ready to see them, why cant the weekend calls be put through to the staffs mobile phones.

I wish we were given information about my mother's health instead of having to ask for it.

From the very first visit I knew this was the perfect home for my mother. The home is in a beautiful Edwardian building with great character. The lovely welcome we received as we walked through the door made us feel confident that my mother would be happy to stay. The staff are amazing, so friendly and always happy to help. We all feel we belong to one big, happy and caring family.

My father received care at Austenwood that he thoroughly deserved in his final years. Care that we could not have provided at home. The staff were quite simply incredible. They are patient. They have a deep understanding of each resident's needs. They became a part of his family. To see him smile with each one of them brought me so much joy, especially when he often didn't recognise me. The activities, the food, the cleanliness, the care, the professionalism, the warmth. The residents come first. I would recommend Austenwood for respite care through to full nursing care without hesitation. I challenge anyone to find a better care home.

My Dad has been at Kingfishers for 2 years now and is very happy there. He has a great rapport with all the staff and is looked after very well. Also, since the new manager has started the staff seem a lot happier which reflects the general mood of the home and I feel she is doing an excellent job. The activities staff work very hard at giving lots of different activities for the residents to get involved with and the care staff are very kind and caring.
