The Anchorage has been transformational for my mother. Following the loss of my father, a nasty fall and a long stint in hospital she was not in great place when she first went there in May this year. In 2 months my mother is a completely different person, the staff are all incredibly kind and patient and have gone out of their way to help her settle. She enjoys the well structured activities and social interaction but most of all feels safe and very well cared for. This is very evident and reassuring for us as her family. It really is a lovely place would recommend without hesitation.

Review of The Anchorage from Jo C (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 18 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Everything has run very smoothly and in a very friendly and professional way from searching for the right care home to the organisation of moving my father in law in and the care he has received has been exceptionally good . Although he has probably not been the easiest resident and would rather be at home - nothing has been too much trouble for the staff and they always communicate both to him and us with a smile on their face. His happiness and safety and health is always top priority. Thankfully after 2 weeks he is going home tomorrow and is in much better health and mindset than when he arrived.

Review of The Anchorage from M C (Son of Resident) published on 14 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My father has just spent two weeks at The Anchorage for respite care and we have been extremely impressed. He has Parkinson's and very poor mobility, so it was vital to find somewhere that could keep him safe while helping him regain some strength and confidence. From the moment he arrived, the staff were warm, patient and genuinely caring, taking time to understand his needs and treating him with dignity at all times. The standard of care has been consistently high and communication with us has been excellent. The management team are visible, approachable and clearly run a well-organised home, and all the staff create a calm, friendly environment. Most importantly, he is coming home in a noticeably better state than when he arrived, stronger and brighter. We are very grateful to everyone at The Anchorage and would not hesitate to recommend them for respite care.

Review of The Anchorage from Kevin Y (Nephew of Resident) published on 14 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
When my uncle first moved into the Anchorage I was anxious that he might want to return to his home where he was struggling to live an independent life. After a fortnight of respite care he wanted to become a full time resident. This was mainly down to the friendly atmosphere at this care home. The carers treat him with great respect and dignity. He enjoys many of the activities and is delighted by the catering and his room.

Thank you.

Review of The Anchorage from Mark J (Husband of Resident) published on 20 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My wife has been at the Anchorage since October. The level of care has been excellent from the outset, but what really stands out is the friendliness and caring of the whole team when dealing with residents and visitors alike.
There have been some minor issues with some meals, but the team are very responsive and the recently appointed manager (Sam) has made strategic changes to put things in order.

I visit on a regular basis and have always found the staff most welcoming and they always find time to interact both with my wife and myself.

Review of Manor Barn Nursing Home from Dee C (Stepdaughter of Resident) published on 16 March 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

How I rate this care home is based on the level of peace of mind I have when I am not with my stepdad. I do not have enough words of praise for the care and how my stepdad has improved in his time at Manor Barn Care Home since he moved in April 2025. His level of fragility has significantly improved due to all the activities to promote strengthening his muscles. He has regained all the weight he lost with tasty, healthy food.

Overall I am very happy with the care my mother receives. All the staff I have had contact with are kind and professional. The home is welcoming and clean. There always seems to be a range of activities and entertainment to suit most tastes. My mother has commented that there can be some inconsistency with the food but I understand that the new manager has made this a priority and indeed changes have already started.

I have limited experience of hotels and none of other care homes. However I have a high opinion of this one. I like the premises, staff and food. It took about a month to adapt from widower to care home ambiance, but thereafter all went well. I would recommend it to any friend or acquaintance.

My father has been a resident at the Anchorage for almost a year, and it is wonderful to see how he has come back to life after the loss of my mother, having been married for 68 years. He has made some wonderful new friends, both amongst the residents and staff, and genuinely seems to be very happy, having discovered a new lease of life. The meals are outstanding and he is extremely well cared for by the attentive staff. He especially enjoys the many and varied entrainments provides with great enthusiasm. Excellent all round.
