My experience has been very positive from the first visit . On our arrival we were met by two staff members who greeted us with warm smiles and were so welcoming we immediately felt at ease . Once inside my sister-in-law was shown to her room , which is very pleasant, and then introduced to other patients
and members of staff in the the communal area . Everyone was so warm and welcoming to us , I immediately knew that my relative would receive the very best of care at Swinton Grange . Over the first week she showed vast signs of improvement in both her physical and cognitive behaviour .Any concerns are quickly dealt with and all our queries answered . A huge thank you to all the staff

During my auntie's stay at Ackroyd, the staff were caring, respectful, fun and friendly and made her feel at home. She felt safe. Her clothes were washed and ironed, her room was kept very clean, as was the rest of the home. Loved having her hair done. The food was excellent and had good choices. She
really enjoyed the concerts, pantomimes, games, sing-alongs and afternoon teas, which made her feel part of a family and made good friends. Thank you to all of you at Ackroyd.

The staff at White Rose Court really care about their residents. Nothing is too much trouble and they communicate very well to the family of a resident. Little personal touches make a world of difference.
The management and staff understand what the resident really needs, unlike the care they would
receive in hospital. Well done White Rose Court for making a difference. X

The care home is such a caring and supportive place, not only for the family resident but also for the families. They make you feel welcomed and you know your family member will be totally looked after, cared for and secure. The residents are helped constantly, nothing is a problem, always there to
make sure your family member is comfortable, safe and as happy as they can be. We felt that we could relax knowing so much our family member was safe, and we could visit any time. The food was amazing, good choice and catered for everyone and their needs. I will greatly miss all the staff who looked after my dad.

My first visit to a lady I had been supporting regularly before she was taken into care. She was delighted to see me and was very happy and content with her present 'home'. She spoke happily about things she had been doing. I stayed for over an hour and felt that the whole atmosphere was a calm and
pleasant one. I sat outside for this visit as it was a lovely sunny morning. I did not go upstairs or see any meal times. I was given a most welcome drink when I arrived (after a long journey)

Ackroyd Clinic

from J D (Daughter of Resident) published on 1 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5

Mum had been self funding for a year until we lost trust for her & had to move her. She has dementia and wheelchair bound but she had a nasty Black eye, 2 more utis and a chest infection in the past few months. She had lost over 8kg of weight and basically was ignored and treated with no dignity. Marevto
sit in a heavy harness while in her wheelchair and electric material chair. I asked repeatedly to loosen the tight straps and when she left on Tuesday she had wounds on the top of both legs. Mum has a needless hospital visit to A&E and nothing wrong with her and they checked everything even after a CT scan. We then found the huge mistakes and photographs of her very sore bottom and mistakes with her medical history & we were not informed of any of this. Therefore as soon as we were aware and retained the report we made quick steps to move mum asap. We got excuses and I went to see mum and she was laid in bed with only a tight sanitary pad on her and nothing to protect her dignity. Bad!

Reply from Saleem Hasan, director at Ackroyd Clinic

We hope your mum has settled well into her new care environment. Her deteriorating health was reported to professionals and yourself, with hospital admissions made under GP or paramedic direction. Her black eye, caused by a fall from bed, was reported immediately, and preventative measures were successfully implemented. Her weight loss, monitored due to a BMI over 30, was discussed with her GP, dietitian, and SALT team as potentially linked to underlying conditions. Her care has never been neglected. The equipment used was an insitu sling, not a harness, assessed by staff and specialists. The hospital pack accurately reflected her care needs and included photos showing skin improvement. She has no bed sores, and documentation shows regular care and staff interaction. We believe the care plan is accurate and transparent. We regret the breakdown in trust and wish your mum continued good health.

Right from our first visit, we were impressed with Darnall Grange. The place itself is spotlessly clean, airy , pleasant and well-decorated. it's the staff, though, that make Darnall Grange such an exceptional place, and that made us more than happy to place our mother here. Everyone we met and dealt
with, no matter their role or rank within the organisation, was exceptionally warm, welcoming and helpful. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and you could tell that all staff genuinely cared for those in their charge, and treated everyone as an individual; with warmth, respect and a genuinely sunny disposition. We would not hesitate to recommend Darnall Grange.

I've called a few times this month to visit my mum. She always look clean and presentable, comfortable and quite contented. The home is always clean and well looked after. I am kept up to date with mum's progress, either when I visit or by telephone call. I really do not have any worries, I know she

I don't know where to start other than a huge thank you to every member of staff.
My Mum was a resident for the last year of her life. I'm in awe of anyone that works in this profession, but the staff here were all so compassionate, kind, caring and patient, Mum was always clean, well fed and always
had a supply of different food and drinks especially cake or icecream! Her room was always emaculate and her clothes were washed and ironed daily, But also everybody was so welcoming of us too at every visit we was welcomed with a smile an update and a laugh. Mum never joined in the activities as she was bedbound and didn't want to (her choice) which was a shame because everyone looked so happy at the events and games and parties. There's always something to celebrate at Acroyd and so much effort goes into it. Even at the end the support and care both Mum and we received was second to non, As a family we thank each and everyone of you

Darnall View

from Susan W (Partner of Resident) published on 14 May 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5

My partner recently had a 2 week Respite Care package while I had a hospital procedure. When I went to bring her home she was not wearing her "glasses", when I asked for them I was told "no one" had seen her wearing any at all when she came in, obviously I challenged this as being her partner and
full time carer for 7 years knows she was wearing them on admission and would never leave her in a strange place with people she didn't know which in itself can be disorientating for a person living with Dementia, made even more stressful without her glasses. Obviously what it says on the "Home Assessment Form" Wears Glasses had no influence at all as it seems in her case, no one read it. Sadly, In my opinion due diligence was very much absent at this Dementia Care Home .

Reply from tracie Smithurst, Registered Manager at Darnall View

Dear Susan, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on this page. As you are aware, we know of your dissatisfaction having spoken to you about it and have applied all due measures to try to resolve this for you.I have also spoken with all staff members present on her admission day, and they confirmed that she was not wearing glasses when they saw her. Additionally, the first photograph taken of her for our records shows that she was not wearing glasses. Although we understand your concern and recall seeing her wearing her glasses during a visit to your home, our subsequent, more thorough searches of the premises have not yielded any results. While we acknowledge your belief that she would not be without her glasses, we were unable to locate them despite diligent efforts. We understand this situation may be frustrating, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused on behalf of the company.
