Northbourne Court

Although I had to choose a month, this review relates to all months. I would like to say how happy my mum is at Northbourne Court. There are always loads of activities and she always enjoys taking part in them. The staff are very caring and have a great deal of empathy with the residents, they really are excellent.

When choosing a care home for my mother and after looking at a few, I felt Northbourne Court would best suit her needs due to the size and modern style of the home, along with its facilities and en-suite bedrooms. Mum has been there for 18 months now, and during that time, I have been very happy with the level of care she receives and how I am contacted immediately should there ever be a problem with regard to her health/needs.

So overall Northbourne Court Care Home needs to improve the lunchtime and teatime menu and provide soup for all for lunch and tea time, that's why I gave only 2 Stars as the food rating.

They were extremely good to me and the family that were camped out at Mum's most of the time. One of the ladies arranged for a bed to be brought into mum's room for my brother who stayed overnight with her and was with her when she fell asleep. She arranged food for all of us. The deputies popped in to check on Mum and us. The senior care leads were fantastic, thank you, all and more. The carers are stars, all of them. Thank you to the manager and your excellent team.

My mum's care at Northbourne Court Care Home has been wonderful. The activities provided have been great, sing-a-longs, dancing, exercises and a visit to Greenwich. All the staff are friendly and helpful and my mum has had a great time here. We have always felt welcomed and the organisation of the buildings is great, although it is big, you soon get to know everybody.

I am very pleased with the overall care of my friend in Hardy suite. She is shown care and this shows back in how happy she is. Thank you.

Northbourne Court is truly a wonderful place. Today was so lively - Father's day - lots of families eating lunch together, all smiles and happiness. Staff are so amazing. A special shoutout to the activities team - fabulous planning for today. We have found all staff we have encountered to be attentive and understanding. We are so thankful dad is properly cared for, as obviously it was a huge worry at first, but now can see the genuine kindness staff show the residents. Very happy with it all.

On the day of my Mother's funeral, the senior carer came into work on her day off to shower and dress my Father and take him to my Mother's funeral. At the crematorium, the senior carer was assisted by two other senior carers. The three carers were an outstanding advert for Northbourne Court and should all be recognised for the care and compassion they showed at a very difficult time.

Went to Northbourne Court, and we had a lovely time at their coronation party. Everyone joined in and the carers made sure nobody was left out. The staff at Northbourne Court go above and beyond to make sure everyone feels at home in their care and the atmosphere is more like a family home. In short, a really nice place to be.

My father only entered care on 17/01/2023, it took three and a half weeks for his bedlinen to change, at which point I did it. I have put his picture on his door/a label on his toilet door. He was not changed every day and several times it has been over seven days since he was given a shower. His hearing aid has been lost. I do not feel the level of care that was promised is happening. The staff are lovely but there are not enough of them, always rushed off their feet. Two carers for fifteen people is not enough.

My husband has server dementia and has been a resident at Northbourne Court since September 2021. The staff of his unit have been extremely supportive, not only to my husband but also to me. They are always welcoming and caring and always do their very best to address his needs, and in doing so, they have built up a relationship with him. It is a great comfort to me to know that he is safe and comfortable at all times at Northbourne Court.

I have experience of Sheltered Schemes and care homes. This is the best I have seen. The fete on Saturday was excellent.

The staff of Northbourne Court are polite, caring, committed and friendly. I would certainly recommend this home to others. They provide everything required including laundry, meals and various types of entertainment which you can enjoy or prefer to relax in your choice of surrounding each day. There is a varied choice of meals. Also many thanks to the maintenance team for all the work they do.

Lovely staff. I visit 2 or 3 times a week. My sister seems quite happy. She doesn't think a lof of the food menu, not very hot she said. She loves the entertainment.

The staff were very caring and kind, and nothing was too much trouble for them, especially the lead carers. The Jubilee entertainment was excellent and well organised. Despite being very busy, the staff always had time to chat and respond to my partner's needs. The food was limited in choice and often lukewarm - needing to be reheated in the microwaves - which was done willingly.

Not very happy with the cleanliness of his room or corridor. Doesn't look as the room has been swept for a few weeks or under the bed. Same crumbs around units and in between them for at least two weeks. Even wiped the tops of units down myself and the cloth was filthy - the floor is dirty in rooms and under the bed. Corridors need hoovering or sweeping and the room smells.

I have no doubt that the dementia care facilities at Northbourne Court are of a very high standard. My experience with the carers has been reassuring and they are all super helpful and friendly which really puts family members at ease. My only complaint is the level of communication that family members receive, particularly from receptionists who do not know any information about the residents or answers to procedural questions. This issue should be bridged with a liaison officer who has weekly or fortnightly calls with the residents family members to update them on the situation and the resident's health. I have called four times over the past week for an update and the receptionist has failed on all accounts to seek the answer. This is extremely disappointing, frustrating and to be frank she seems unbothered. The poor communication really portrays a bad image and lets Northbourne down. As a family, we currently feel disconnected.

My mother resided on 'Hardy' from August 20017 until she passed away on 7th January 2020. She had dementia and could be quite a task for the staff, especially at bath times etc. Close relative are distressed when they see the person they love greatly become so different. Your staff cared for her in such a way that it gave us (her son and daughter) great confidence and reassurance that she was as well and safe as was humanly possible. We can never thank you enough.
