Northbourne Court care home, located in the busy shopping area of Sidcup in the London area, is a care facility providing residential care for older people living with dementia.

Northbourne provides a wealth of support services for people living with dementia, with the aim of not just providing care and comfort, but also a new, positive and more engaging stage in their lives. The team of qualified and attentive staff provide 24-hour specialist person-centred care.

Each suite has its own lounge and dining area overlooking the internal gardens or grounds. All of the bedrooms have en-suite facilities and each suite has its own colour scheme.

At the heart of Northbourne Court is its Philosophy of Care, The Eden alternative, where social interaction and engagement are encouraged and boredom is eradicated by addressing the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness and boredom within the home.

Very clean residence with extremely nice and helpful staff, who work in a very difficult and I imagine a stressful environment. Mum is well cared for and I do not think that I could have found a better care home. The rooms, although small, are kept clean and Mum appears to be benefitting through being
here. As discussed with the staff, the security of her room needs to be improved, as other residents do wander in.

The care staff were dedicated, especially in 2018/19.
At this current time, the caring team and managers are probably the best I have seen since my mother entered the home in April 2014. When there had been problems in the past, they have been resolved well.
My mother died on 18/01/19 and for the
previous week, my sister and I were at the home most of the time. The carers and team leaders were fantastic to us. The support we received was way beyond anything we ever expected. They made a traumatic experience more bearable. The assistant general manager was also great.

My mum has been in there for a year and a half now and I cannot fault it. It's very clean, Mums room is always clean and tidy and the staff are so lovely and caring. The activities are great, always something going on, singers, games, it's great. The canteen for the visitors is very nice.

The care given by this home is excellent.
The staff are very caring and friendly and the management should be so proud of the whole team from the kitchen staff, receptionists, cleaners, carers through to the activities team and cafe staff.
The activities and entertainment provided are varied, fun
and memorable and residents are always encouraged to join in. For those unable to leave their rooms the activities are brought to them.


I cannot praise this home more highly.

My mother was a resident at Northbourne Court from April 2014 until January 2019 when she passed away. Most carers were wonderful, they treated her with respect and the standard of care was excellent. They called my mum grandma and treated her as if she was their own grandma. They were so kind and loving
towards her. Her end of life care was so wonderful and the support towards the family was so outstanding. All carers and management involved in the end of life care were amazing.

Even though my father in law was only in the home for a short time, he was treated with the utmost care and consideration by all the staff. In his last days, they ensured that he was comfortable and it allowed his family to visit in a great environment. Thank you Northbourne Court.

Mum moved into Northbourne Court at short notice after being discharged from hospital.
The staff were very welcoming and settled her in quickly making sure she had a meal.
Mum is treated with dignity, kindness and a lot of personal interaction. After just two months I feel that the staff are our
friends. Cannot recommend this home highly enough - nothing is too much trouble.

My mother became a resident at the above establishment in 2017. Since that time my family and sisters family have been very impressed at the facilities and service offered. Any difficulty or problem that occurs is rectified as soon as possible, and all medication given is at the prescribed time and
recorded efficiently. The staff are very kind, friendly and clearly enjoy their working environment. Overall - no issues at all.

My mother has been a resident of Northbourne Court for nearly 4 years. Although I have always been quite satisfied with her care, there have been hitches along the way.
I want to point out that since a certain senior member of staff took over Bronte Suite, that she has made amazing changes. My mum
was never dressed as she didn't want to be. She is now coaxed to be dressed and go to the communal areas. The whole suite has been transformed with pretty hand cut flowers on the walls. The staff all seem very happy in a very challenging environment. My mother is always clean and tidy. The whole home always smells clean an fresh. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the staff. Long may it continue.

My mother has been a resident here for the past eight months. She is very happy living here. We are encouraged to visit at any time. Most of the staff here are very caring to the resident's needs. Any concerns are dealt with immediately. I am very happy with the home. All my mother's needs are met.

My mum has been here for about 7 weeks. I was worried about her coming here but she likes it here which has made me feel better. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is good. Mum's room is large and kept clean. There are activities that you can participate in if you want to, but it's not
obligatory. The rooms are divided and have their own dining rooms and lounges. It is nice as all the residents get to know each other as they are in smaller groups. Mum has company and isn't lonely anymore.

When my husband was allocated to Sidcup I wasn't happy as it was quite a journey for me but I was so impressed when I visited that I had to put him first. All the carers are so friendly, caring and his room is lovely. He has settled well and I know he is safe.

Firstly let me state the people who actually care for my father are absolute saints. They are placed under enormous pressure through constant cost cutting and very poor wages. As my father's dependants, my sister and I have witnessed good person after good person leave to be replaced by well meaning
but less capable people.
The family cafe is constantly closed with no explanation and we have to constantly remind people about my father's basic requirements. We are private clients and have seen fees increase and service deteriorate. It's heartbreaking to see my father's condition get steadily worse and leave after a visit worrying about his care.

Our dad came to Northbourne Court 4 years ago. We were delighted with the facilities and excellent care and attention he received. Lately, this has sadly changed with the introduction of a new manager and huge change. This has seen lots of good dedicated staff leaving - which is hugely disruptive to
my poor dad who suffers from dementia. Team leaders have been replaced with sub-standard "assistant managers". Cafe bar is rarely open now, as my dad is frail he could still get there for a change of scenery. We are private funders of his care. A year ago my comments below would all have been excellent.

My wife, who suffers from advanced vascular dementia has been a resident for over four years. I previously looked after her for four years myself. I live in the local area and a regular visitor to the care home as I wish to have regular contact to my dear wife. I am satisfied that she is being well
cared for in a care home which is well run. I have good contact with the majority of the care workers and senior management with whom I can discuss any problems, should they arise. Continuity and recognition of their carers should be maintained. I am not in favour of moving staff around between suites! I and my family struggle with the loss of my wife to dementia but are happy that she is in the right home and environment best suited to her needs.

Mum has been at Northbourne for 3 years and we couldn't wish for a better place for her. The home is clean and bright, with a lovely lounge, café and balcony and the rooms are comfortable. The staff are very friendly and very caring of mum - everyone always takes the time and makes a point of saying
'hello' and chatting with mum and her visitors. I always have complete confidence that mum is in the best place for her and receiving the best possible care. If you're looking for a place for your loved one, this is it!

Paula Igwe-Chinwo

Paula Igwe-Chinwo, the Registered Manager of Northbourne Court, has worked in care for over 13 years, working with mental health, learning disability, autism, physical disability, stroke, dementia and nursing care. She has worked in residential care homes, nursing homes, stroke units a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre, supported living, domiciliary care and a day centre.


Her qualifications are:


LLM, Masters in Law
LLB Law
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care
Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care and Management


Paula is most proud of achieving her registration as a CQC Registered Manager; she believes the morale of care staff is paramount to achieving a quality service that will enhance the wellbeing of the person(s) being cared for. She has a particular interest in bringing active life into the environment of those living in care homes to ensure they have a fulfilling time whilst living in care.
