I am the sole sibling of my 80-year-old sister who has mixed dementia/Alzheimer's. Unfortunately I live a 2-hour drive away from Leighton Buzzard so finding a perfect care home was important. Carrington House is a truly excellent place, calm, well-managed, clean and inviting. Offers first-class care
and accommodation - perfect for my sister.

I have nothing but the highest praise for Carrington House. The home, recently redecorated and refurnished, offers a safe and happy environment for my mum. The staff are caring, efficient, and have a great rapport with her. The admin staff ensure that there are plenty of activities for residents. The
home is clean at all times, the residents are well-fed and we as visitors are warmly welcomed by all staff.

Carrington House is a lovely care home. The staff look after the residents very well. It is clean, bright and very welcoming. Mum has been here for 2 years and most of the staff are the same. I know that mum is well looked after. The activities team make a lot of effort to keep the residents busy. A
lot of time has been spent on making the garden calm and welcoming too.

My Mum has been in Carrington House for over a year now and her dementia has increased and with it, she can get very agitated. She tends to get very unsteady on her feet and she has to be watched constantly. The caring team deals with Mum brilliantly, they know the signs when she is changing and know
what needs to be done to keep her safe. The carers are so nice and helpful and not only care fir Mum but my elderly Father who visits Mum and also me when I visit. I cannot fault this home and would recommend it to anyone looking for a caring home.

My dad is very well cared for at Carrington House, the staff and management team are super hard working, extremely patient, respectful and personal, they understood my Dad's personality very quickly. He has been in care there now for around 18 months with his diagnosis of mixed dementia and we are very
comforted knowing he is in a safe, supportive and attentive environment. I would have no hesitation in highly recommending Carrington House Care Home.

As a family, we found the transition of putting our mother in residential care extremely challenging.
The management and staff took time to answer our many questions and concerns with kindness and patience. We received regular updates and were not made to feel a nuisance by our numerous communications!
The
staff works tirelessly to provide a varied program of in-house (daily) activities as well as external trips. Family and friends receive regular communications regarding the activities and events on offer. They are also given the opportunity to share views at Family and Friends meetings. Communication regarding concerns with the residents is good. I would have no hesitation in recommending CH. My mother is treated with kindness and more importantly dignity and respect. The staff are aware of individual needs and accommodate their care accordingly. As a family, we are most grateful for the dedication and compassion of the staff. I feel reassured my mother is being cared for in a safe and happy environment.

My mum only had a few months at Carrington House and it was all a bit of a rush, coming straight from hospital so obviously a bit worried as she had never been away from home before. But from day one couldn't fault the place; clean, Mum always looked lovely, nice bedroom, friendly staff and plenty for
them to do. Not stuck in their rooms all day. I would recommend. I am am glad my mum was happy in her final days and they would always be on hand to answer any questions you had. A good experience for Mum.

The staff and managers at Carrington House Care Home were very supportive, knowledgeable and caring to my parent and the family. It was a very stressful time prior to admission for my parent (and the family) and the staff there managed a difficult situation very professionally but also with compassion.
I was very impressed with the atmosphere and happiness I felt on visits hearing laughter and music in the background. All the staff were kind to us and built up a rapport with my parent, even though communication with them was difficult. The staff got to know my parent well very quickly and were able to work with their very complex needs with much care and attention to detail. I had full confidence in the home and felt my parent was in very good hands.
I am very grateful to all the staff at Carrington House for their excellent care, their friendliness, their advice, listening to us and much compassion.

My father moved into Carrington House Care Home in February after we had to make the hard decision to move him into a care home. When I first viewed Carrington House I was immediately put at ease, the staff were so friendly and understanding of how difficult my family's situation was. I knew immediately
this was the right place for my dad.
He settled extremely quickly and loves it. He is always happy and loves his carers. Staff always keep us updated on how he is. It is so easy and comfortable to visit him and staff always tell us how much they love him which is so wonderful.
I cannot say enough about how amazing Carrington House is. The transition for myself and my mother has been so tough and, not only have they been there for my dad, they have been there for us.
Carrington House doesn’t just care about their residents, they care about their families too. We still feel so involved in my dad's life.
I feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful home for my father.

My father resided at Carrington House Care Home in Vandyke Road, Leighton Buzzard for almost four years until he recently passed away. During that time, he was well looked after. The staff are friendly, dedicated and hard-working and you can tell they work as a team and help each other out. They were
so good with my dad, especially towards the end of his life. They were always respectful, compassionate, understanding and treated the residents with dignity at all times. The management were always approachable, open and accommodating. They have 60 residents and know all of them by name, their personalities, likes and dislikes etc. The care home also has a good social side for those residents who are able to participate in activities. I would certainly recommend Carrington House as one of the better care homes in Leighton Buzzard, if not the best!

I would recommend Carrington House Care Home to anyone who has to make the very difficult decision that their loved one needs to go into a care home. My mother was in Carrington for sixteen months until her death from advanced dementia. She was cared for with love, kindness and compassion. The genuine
care of the staff was outstanding. For the last four weeks of my mother's life, we were able to visit 24 hours of the day as she was receiving 'end-of-life'. During that time, we spent many hours in the home and saw how well all patients were cared for.

Very nice care home and staff.
They do lots of activities and trips out, especially in the nicer weather.
Obviously, we've had Covid to contend with but I think they have done their best to accommodate visits.

I can't fault the care my 92-year mum is receiving. All the carers and managers I've met so far are extremely caring with my mum. The staff are also on cue with Mum's medical needs. Mum was depressed when she became a resident at the care home but the lovely staff have managed to engage her in so many
activities that she had given up on. I'm happy that Mum is happy and I think Mum has made friends too.

My mother has only been a resident at the care home for 6 months, so difficult to give a full assessment however during this period the care and support we have received to date has been excellent due to the COVID pandemic and not being able to enter the home, in general, it is difficult to give an
accurate review for e.g cleanliness.

I found that Carrington House was most helpful with Dad. He's been so happy there and every day there are activities going on. I think they are excellent. Dad is treated with dignity and kindness and each day they are trying to improve in all areas. In fact I wouldn't mind being in there at the moment
with this lockdown. They seem to do a lot throughout the day.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.519)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.519) out of 10 for Carrington House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.869 for Carrington House is calculated as follows: ( (94 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.869
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Carrington House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.75
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
