The Review Score of 8.9 (maximum of 10) for Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 16 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI Centre in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.411 for Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI Centre is calculated as follows: ( (101 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 190 Ratings = 4.411

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.495 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI Centre is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 18.2 positive Reviews (91 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 9 Reviews ÷ 18.2 Target = 0.495

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

During the time my wife was in care, she was cared for well. At certain times, the care varied as the attention of the carers varied according to the different teams that were on duty.

The management structure has changed which is improving the standard of care but is a slow project due to the difficulty of recruitment ie standard of applicants. Part of that problem is the appalling wages.

In the final days of my wife's life, the care and attention and support for me was excellent.

After the sudden passing of my mother and my father suffering from Dementia our immediate thoughts were Dad having to be placed in a care home, fortunately for us, he was accepted into Manton Heights Care Centre 24 hours after my mums passing, unfortunately for us as a family Dad passed away 4 weeks after mum. During my dad's short stay we found all the staff to be friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble, we were constantly kept up to date with Dads unfortunate deterioration by his Key Worker along with other staff members in her absence. The compassion shown on the day of dads passing began with the initial call from the night staff through to the Administrator, Home Manager and other staff members.
As a family, we would not hesitate in recommending Manton Heights.

Mum was only at Manton Heights for 10 days for respite but during this time she was treated with the best of care. I would fully recommend this care home to everyone that needed to be cared for. We the family were kept updated with everything that was going on. The staff were excellent. Mum was always put first whatever she liked to eat they tried to accommodate. Nothing was too much trouble.

I would like to highly recommend both the facilities and staff at Manton Heights. My Mother spent her last year there and did so in comfort and with all of the attention possible from a really lovely team. Everyone there; nurses, carers, cooks, cleaners and admin staff all seemed to take a personal interest in Mum and treated her with care, dignity and respect. My sister and I were frequent visitors as were other family members and we were always happy with the way in which Mum was being looked after. She slipped away quietly when her time came and it was a great comfort to know that her last days were comfortable and peaceful. Thank you all.

Our mother has been in Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI Centre for 16 months and, if completely honest, our experience has been 'mixed'. It is a building with great facilities and with the right care teams in place in each of its three units is has the potential to be excellent. Indeed we have experienced and observed such excellent care being given to our mother and other residents. However, this has not been consistent. Regular fluctuations in staffing levels and staff experience, in what can at times be a very demanding environment, have resulted in significant dips in care. A member of the management and/or care team have always made themselves available to listen to our concerns, but we have found it necessary to 'push' to get some issues resolved and to consistently 'monitor' to ensure they remain so, which has been both surprising and disappointing. In summary - we would rate this home in general as good but with dips in care at times to just satisfactory. It has the potential to be excellent, and for the fees charged we expected this, but we do believe our mother is safe and cared for there. We think any care home would benefit from putting in place a recognised quality assurance system such as (ISO9000) and we suggest that if the OWNERS of this home look into doing this for all their care homes and provide extra adequate funding to institute and maintain such a system, then they will attract (and perhaps more importantly keep) the calibre and levels of staff required to provide a consistently good level of care. It has been difficult to fill in the tick box section of this questionnaire in a very meaningful was, as there are no statements of what constitutes 'satisfactory' etc for the various categories.

Jackie Cridlin, Sales & Marketing Manager at Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI Centre responded to this review on 22 May 2017:

Dear Rebecca

Thank you for taking the time to review Manton Heights and share your concerns with us. I took up the post as Manager in May 2017 and have been looking at our staffing levels which are in line with industry standards, however, staff sickness can affect this but we do our best to ensure we cover this even at short notice. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you to discuss any concerns you have regarding your mother’s care. We do have a very robust quality assurance system in place which is regularly monitored, audited and reviewed by our Regional Manager and Quality Assurance Manager. We will continue to strive to provide excellent care for our Residents.

Kind Regards
Rob Ashton
Home Manager

From the outset, I was impressed with Manton Heights, Woodlands. The management, nurses and carers were professional, diligent and sympathetic towards both me and my mother's needs.
I felt very reassured despite what had the potential to be an emotive and distressing time.

The best aspect of Manton Heights is the dedication and professionalism of all the staff (there is a single carer whose standards are not as high as I would like). The residents in Carlton Wing are treated with care respect even when displaying challenging behaviours local management take their responsibilities very seriously too and react quickly to any complaints on concerns.
Any issues which is why I have not rated overall as excellent this is due to lack of staff sometimes the common areas appear disorganised e.g lack of cushions, lack of chairs. Meal times are sometimes disorganised especially for those who need to be fed and residents not always overseen.

Our mother, who has severe dementia, has been a resident at Manton Heights for almost 4 years. We have found the care to be variable, sometimes poor, sometimes good. The unit is often short staffed, especially at weekends.

I found the accommodation to be first class and of a high standard similar to that in a 4/5 star hotel. Although my 99 year old mother was not able to make use of the facilities, I was impressed by all that was available.
The level of care given to my mother was excellent and I have great admiration for the dedication and professionalism of the staff.
My mother was in the care home for 9 months until her death in June 2016

With dementia nothing prepares you for the highs and lows of this devastating illness, whatever you do, you hope that for that moment the sufferer has happiness, as a minute later it is forgotten. Therefore to have witnessed the care and devotion given by Manton Heights and know they could be relied upon in their efforts to keep her safe and comfortable, was reassuring. The staff should know they did make a huge difference

My mother was admitted with severe dementia and received very good care and attention. One particular incident which comes to mind was that following a stay in Hospital, which was very poorly managed by the discharge unit, the care home staff stayed long after their normal working hours to settle her back in safely.

My mother was a resident in the above home for three years and in that time she was extremely happy there and myself personally was very satisfied with the care she received during that time. The management were always available if you had any issues and the staff, down to the kitchen, laundry and cleaning staff were superb. There were regular relative meetings with management. The activities team has grown over the years and so some splendid work with the residents who wish to participate. The home is spotlessly clean and well furnished and the kitchen staff go out of their way to accommodate the special dietary needs of some of the residents. Yes, some carers were average and have time off at the drop of a hat but that is the nature of the profession I guess. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to others. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your review we really appreciate when people take the time and effort to value the service our team offers

Exemplary care in peaceful, clean surroundings. The staff show dedication and treat the residents very much as valued individuals.
The food menu is varied, tasty and nutritious, and enjoyed by the residents; specific dietary requirements are catered.
The administrative support is efficient and communicative; the staff do exactly what they undertake to do - all with a smile.
Visiting times are unrestricted; it's possible to go in any time over 24 hours which is comforting for the relatives.

Superb, sensitive, all round care where the needs of the individual are met and surpassed.

Dear Sir, thank you for your review I will ensure the staff and management of Manton Heights are aware of your excellent feedback. Again thank you.

My Grandmother has been at the home for three years. Having previously lived on her own in a high rise flat. Now at the grand old age of 97 and counting, enjoys her time. She loves the social side and the help she now gets from the very forthcoming staff. She is partially sighted and also hard of hearing and no longer struggles like she did when she was on her own. We do enjoy seeing her when we visit looking very comfortable in her very comfortable room and realised her time in the flat was one of which should have been a sooner rather than later situation in leaving it. It is always nice to receive a warm welcome from everyone when we visit.
