My father stayed at Manton Heights Care Home for over 4 months and only left as he came to live with us. Choosing a care home is very difficult but we were so lucky we chose Manton Heights. Although my father did not want to go into the home for respite care, he very soon changed his mind once he was
there. The rooms are a very good size and the layout of the home has been well thought out. However, the main reason both my father and I think so highly of the place is due to the staff. They are all very special people who really care about their work and the residents. My father made many friends in the home and still talks about them a lot. I cannot fault the care my father received whilst at Manton and have a great deal of respect for the hard work, kindness, patience and professionalism shown by all levels of staff in the home.
Both my father and I have no hesitation in recommending Manton Heights.
Reply from Samantha Humphreys, General Manager at Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI CentreThank you so much for your kind words.
I will ensure that all staff are made aware.
We hope Dad is well and please keep in touch.

The decision to place a loved one in a care home is huge and, to say the least, a very daunting one. I have found all the staff at Manton Heights, from domestic staff all the way up to the management team, to be extremely respectful towards my mum. The staff have worked extremely hard to make sure that
all of my mum's complex needs are met whilst showing high levels of compassion, patience, and a desire to create a safe environment where she feels valued as a human being. As a relative, I feel that any concerns I may have are always listened to and acted upon. Huge thanks to all the staff at Manton Heights.

My mother came to Manton Heights from hospital on the Monday 7th February 2022 for end of life.
What a wonderful home. The home, the staff and the manager could not have done any more for my mother or my family. My mum is still with us. The manager has let me and my sister stay with my mother the
whole time. Continually asking if we need anything. Bringing us food tea and coffee. The care of my mum is outstanding. Always caring for her. The staff, before they leave, alway make sure they come to say goodbye at the end of their shift. If my mum was well enough to go into a care home I would definitely choose Manton Heights.

Auntie attended the care centre for respite after a fall resulted in a broken collar bone. During her 2 weeks stay, Aunite was well looked after and enjoyed chatting to staff.
We appreciate staff are extremely busy but an hour induction would have been helpful as we didn't really know what to expect.
A
big thank you to one member of staff for making my auntie laugh, the best medicine.

After a sudden change in her circumstances, my mother spent some time in the ABI unit at Manton, and benefited from the care and therapy they provided. While Covid has made access for relatives difficult at times I was very satisfied with the communication I received from the unit - quick responses
in 'office hours' and on the one occasion required, a phone call out of hours. The unit is on a homely scale and my mother had a large, self-contained room with a view over the countryside.

The care and dedication I could see the team gave to her was massively reassuring to me at such a difficult time, most importantly she was treated with full dignity and compassion throughout. My mother has clearly benefited from the work the team at Manton did with her, smoothing her ongoing care journey. On my visits, she had nothing but praise for the staff who looked after her and the same goes for myself.

Reply from Rose Bradshaw, Unit Manager - Acquired Brain Injury Unit at Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI CentreThank you so much for this lovely feedback, it was a pleasure to work with your mum and we all wish her the best in her ongoing journey and recovery.

My father came into Manton Heights on 1st December 2021. My sister and I have seen a remarkable change in Dad. He chats much more and has banter with the staff, something we have not really seen before. He loves the food! He looks healthier and has made friends with who he spends mealtimes with. Staff
are all lovely and accommodate phone and video calls when we can't visit. Very clean, pleasant surroundings.

The care received for my nan is unbelievably amazing. She came here for end of life, if she was well enough and we had to pick a home this would be at the top of the list. The carers at Manton Heights go above and beyond for every single family member that have been constantly checking Nan and family
are OK and to see if we need anything food or drinks.
Couldn't recommend enough. Thank you.

I have been pleased with the care my relative has received whilst at Manton Heights ABI unit, particularly during the tricky time of managing the COVID 19 pandemic.

I would make 2 observations that could be improved:

1. There is no way of ringing the unit outside week day office hours and this

is a problem (particularly relating to point 2)
2. My relative was taken to the local A&E on 2 occasions and I was not told. On the first occasion I had a phone call from the A&E department direct asking me to come and pick him up and take him home! I was then unable to reach ABI and confirm the details of his discharge and was only able to get to the bottom of it all by pulling rank with A&E (I am an NHS consultant) and getting to speak to their doctor. I would suggest that next of kin is informed about going to A&E as a routine, partly as movement to A&E identifies a deterioration in medical condition.
Reply from Rose Bradshaw, Unit Manager - Acquired Brain Injury Unit at Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI CentreThank you for your feedback Adrian. In regards to your feedback about the phone and admissions to hospital I will certainly address this. When someone is admitted to hospital we do always try to notify next of kin and our paperwork is sent with the patient, therefore unsure why they called you and not us as that is usually the case. We really appreciate the feedback and we enjoyed working with your relative and wish him all the best in the future.

Our mum was sent for an assessment from hospital. It was out of our area. Mum went downhill so quickly here, mainly due to lack of staff I think. We were only able to visit once then it had a sickness bug so we never saw Mum for 9 days. The shock we got was so distressing. Dementia was to blame for
Mum's death but had she been nearer, we could have visited every day.

The last few times I have visited, I have been very pleasantly impressed by the positivity and care taken by a particular member of staff towards my relative. She is thoughtful, kind and has got to know my relative, which has caused such happiness. The activities recently involving a local school choir
was such a big hit, and the presence of Bella the Labrador brings joy and excitement.
Thank you. May these types of activities continue with the amazing input from the staff that enables it to happen.

I was transferred to ABI on discharge from hospital for stroke rehabilitation. The modern premises are kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping staff. Individual en-suite rooms make ablutions much easier. Care team not only look after daily needs very well but will always find time to meet individual
physical or social/emotional needs. The centre has a very experienced physiotherapy team who do a great job taking clients through a phased recovery. Psychotherapy sessions are available to help with the mental and emotional effects of a stroke. For those whose speech was affected, there are also speech therapists. There is a screened garden and activities are available as clients progress. Meals are good quality, generous and tasty. Squash and beverages are always available. Although there are some restrictions due to Covid, family and friends are permitted to visit in adjacent accommodation or "window" visits. All staff wear PPE at appropriate times.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.647)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.647) out of 10 for Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 51 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 48 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.647 for Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI Centre is calculated as follows: ( (417 Excellents x 5) + (136 Goods x 4) + (30 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 586 Ratings = 4.647
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Manton Heights Care Centre & ABI Centre is based on 48 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 91 registered maximum number of service users is 18.2, which has been reached with 48 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
