Review from Colin W (Husband of Resident) published on 4 January 2018 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My wife has been in the care home for just over 2 years and during that time has received excellent care and kindness by all staff. The management has always kept me well informed regarding medication and any illness if a doctor has attended. Activities are well provided, however, it is difficult to involve some residents (my wife is one) who has a short concentration span.

Overall, I have no complaints or concerns regarding the care home and would recommend it to anyone.

The care home is clean and comfortable. The staff are exceptional. Each and every one of them are kind and caring and have a genuine affection for all the residents. I have been visiting my father virtually every day since the end of March 2017. I go at various times of the day and evening and have never seen any member of the staff treat a resident with anything other than respect and kindness. My father is always happy and comfortable with all of the staff.

Review from Sydney L (Cousin of Resident) published on 21 August 2017 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience
Following my cousin's death, it took two requests plus at least one reminder over six months to obtain a refund of fees paid in advance. The visitor's book is often full with no additional pages provided. Visitors are not informed that all security doors used the same code. Incoming mail for residents was left in the entrance area for their visitors to pick up, often letters months old were still there.
It was difficult to find a quiet place to talk when I visited. There was no dedicated small room for visitors, I usually went into the conservatory and my cousin was brought in. It was not particularly warm and often other residents interrupted. The conservatory was also used as a dining room and tables were often being laid during my visit.
While my cousin's en suite bedroom was adequate, the resident's lounges seemed to have nothing more than large screen TV's and chairs around the walls.
There seemed to be a high turnover of staff.

Following my request (I live 90 miles away) I was eventually kept informed (phone, email) when my cousin needed medical attention.

Visiting mum is a pleasure. The care home is bright, cheery and lively. It is well run, the staff are friendly and go out of their way to help and keep the residents happy. It is very clean and tidy. The bedrooms are airy and the residents are able to personalise them. We visited quite a few care homes when deciding where mum should be and this one fitted all her needs, without being geared for people wanting to do classes like yoga etc, which at 93 my is unable to participate in. Mum is very happy and I can't thank the staff and management enough.

The best thing about Carrington House are the staff. They are always friendly, polite and helpful to us when we visit. My mother-in-law is treated with dignity and the standard of general care is always seen to be excellent.

I would like to say how well my mother-in-law was looked after in her time at Carrington House. The way the staff were with her and us could not be faulted and how well we were treated on her passing. Thanks to all.

I last reviewed Carrington House in 2014 and feel compelled to write another review, as the latest CQC Report on Carrington House does not match what I witness, see and experience every week when I visit Dad and what I know Dad experiences on a day to day basis. I found it really difficult when looking at suitable Care Homes with and for Dad and I feel for anybody who is faced with this difficult task now or in the future - the CQC Report, in my opinion, does not reflect the true position at Carrington.

I can absolutely vouch for Carrington. The staff and management have been, and continue to be, fantastic with Dad. He, and I, remain extremely happy with the support and standard of care that he receives and with the cleanliness and practices at the home. My view has not changed on Carrington and I reiterate that, if you are looking for a people-focused, family-feel Care Home you will not find better than Carrington House in my opinion.

In Dad's own words to this day "they treat me like a king here".

My husband has been a resident at Carrington House for a year now and is very settled. The staff and management are excellent and I feel very pleased that he is happy there. The carers are very kind and helpful. Food is good. The activities girls are also excellent and spend a lot of time entertaining residents and taking them out on trips. I would recommend this care home to anyone who is looking for one for a relative.

My mother was a resident in this care home following the onset of vascular dementia. From the first day Aug 2012 the staff were kind, compassionate and thoughtful. At all times they treated her with dignity and respect. Their care for her went far past what time could reasonably have expected, up to and including the time of her death. The last week of her life her whole family, 5 children, stayed with her 24hrs a day. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff to make our stay comfortable and to support us in every way.

When it came to the time when dad needed to move, my mum and I looked into care homes. Carrington was the first home we came out of and instinctively knew "that's the one". Great staff, activities and services given. Care isn't just about helping someone "survive" until its the end, but helping them "live" and have a good quality of life until times up. The staff are very attentive and they seem to really care about my dad not just because they are paid to, but because they are human beings, I feel relaxed and comfortable knowing dad is being well looked after.

The staff of this care home are compassionate and kind. My wife, who is a resident patient there is very well attended and I have only gratitude and appreciation fore their kindness and tender loving care they give to an elderly and frail patient. Thanks particularly to the assistant manager for her understanding and kindness.

Very happy with the care provided for my mother. Also my father visits regularly and receives a good deal of care and support during this very difficult period of transition. Unfortunately I can only visit at the weekends due to work commitments and length of journey, bit I am confident that my mother is being care for in a kind and considerate manner.

My mum was a resident at Carrington House from March 2012 - Dec 2013. I felt that once mum had settled in which didn't take too long she was well cared for, and she soon got used to staff and the general running of the home. I visited everyday and was mostly happy with everything, the carers were good with mum and me. As like with all homes there is not enough staff. Sometimes all the residents want is someone to sit and chat to them, which the staff don't have time to do always. I still visit the home although mum is no longer there and they now have an activities team which I feel has made a huge difference. I always found Carrington a "homely" home and at the latter part of mums life they could not have been any kinder to mum and all our family which I will never forget.

I feel they are short staffed and care of clients can suffer, not enough staff to feed, toilet etc. I visit my husband regularly so I can feed him, but do help to feed others. But on the whole I am happy with the care my husband receives.
