I was really upset when we couldn't see Mum for 3 months because of Covid-19, it felt as though I was neglecting her! I am happy to be able to see her outdoors now and hope they will be able to arrange visits still in the colder weather.

During the lockdown, I have been kept informed and am now able to visit in person - not as often as I would like but know that all families have to be accommodated. My husband has dementia, so I am sure he is bewildered by face masks etc, but he has remained placid and settled during this difficult time. Which I and my family are very grateful for, we feel he is in very safe hands.

My 98-year-old mum has been a resident at Icknield Court for ten months now and it is great to know that she is being well looked after. She is enjoying home-cooked food and has the company of her carers and other residents.
In May she tested positive for Covid-19 and was very unwell. All her carers were amazing in looking after her at this time. In full PPE they were constantly attending to all her needs and providing the support she needed as we were not allowed to visit. I would like to say a special thank you to the assistant manager for overseeing all her social and medical needs at this time and her cheery demeanour when she updated us on a daily basis. Thankfully she has now recovered and is getting stronger every day.

Thank you Icknield Court.

The staff at the care home are simply amazing, My Nan has been with them for nearly 2 years now. They are extremley helpful and have so much passion and care towards all the residents in the home.
They do an amazing job and I cannot thank them enough for what they do with my Nan.
We have been there while they have entertainment on and the residents love it.

Very clean, nice meal choices for my Nan.

The majority of the carers are very caring, obviously, the odd one occasionally causes a bit of concern. Mum has a bit of a concern when other residents come into her room, she's had experiences in the past when things have gone missing from her room.

Overall Experience

My mother, who has dementia, was on day one of a respite visit and was found wandering miles away from the home, several hours after we left her.

The home didn’t even know she was missing until we informed them. She had managed to pack up all her belongings and leave with a suitcase, without being noticed.

The administration was also chaotic and we were left waiting for ages to complete paperwork and mum wasn’t kept busy (as was promised) but just left on her own, hence being able to escape.

We have removed her and sadly I would not recommend this home to anyone.

Reply from Karen Cornes, Marketing & Communications Manager at Icknield Court
We are committed to providing the best care for the people that we support and we sincerely apologise for any distress caused. The matter is being thoroughly looked into to ensure our moving in process enables residents and their families to benefit from a smooth transition into our service, which on this occasion fell below our normal standard.

My mum moved in at the beginning of August. She has never wanted to go into any kind of home, but within two weeks has changed her mind and was saying she would prefer to stay at Icknield Court. From my point of view, I feel mum and her dog are definitely in the best place. All the staff in House 2 have been really kind and welcoming. Mum is not an easy lady to care for but they are very patient and help her in every way they can. I am kept very informed as to how she is mentally and physically. Keep up your excellent work, you are doing a fantastic job. I wouldn't change anything. I can have a laugh with mum again which I love.

Thank you all!!

My father-in-law became a resident of Icknield Court 6 weeks ago after deciding that he no longer wanted to live independently. We thought that it would be a difficult transition for him but due to the diligence of the care home, this has not been the case. He loves it!

The staff are marvellous and he loves the interaction and genuine care shown by them. I could not wish for more for my much-loved father-in-law.

My sister is very content and happy to be in the home. All the staff know her by name and are very friendly. I think it is a wonderful idea to have the home divided into separate houses so there are not too many people in one place at any time.

I think the hairdresser is wonderful. They all come out looking beautiful and happy!

Finally, the gardens are kept well and my sister loves walking in them.
