I can confidently say, in 10-years my father has been a resident at Icknield Court, my family and I have never had to question whether or not he is in the right place. The high level of care and attention he continues to receive has not only been consistent, but his wants and needs have always been met with the utmost care and consideration. The carers have been nothing but attentive, considerate and helpful, and we couldn't have hoped for more.

My mother has vascular dementia which is very upsetting for her and for her family. However, the care that the staff at Icknield have shown towards her and their tremendous kindness especially doing this incredibly testing time of COVID has been so consoling and so very excellent. We have been able to relax over Christmas knowing that my mother had not only a superb menu of Christmas food to choose and enjoy; but also lots of fun things like pyjama parties, karaoke, visits from Father Christmas to enjoy. This made our own Christmas without her; something also special. I cannot thank the staff especially in House 1 enough for their extraordinary caring attitudes and kindness. We have been kept informed at all stages of the action taken to protect the residents from Covid and this is reassuring. We are very much hoping that the vaccine will arrive soon in the Home. Well done staff and residents for everything you put into your lives there. We are very proud of you.

Icknield Court has made a tremendous effort to maintain contact between residents and families during the pandemic and the employment of very friendly and professional receptionist has done much to ensure the smooth organisation of visits and proactive management of safety measures.

The care home is very Covid aware. Numerous precautions in place including hand sanitiser, shoe spray, temperature check and tall perspex dividing screens in the visitor's room. The public area was very clean and tidy. Mum looked very well and is kept very occupied with a host of well-organised activities. These ensure Mum is mentally stimulated, maintaining social interaction.

My husband has been a resident at Icknield Court for ten years. Throughout this time the standard of care has remained excellent. The staff understand his needs even though his mental capacity, speech and mobility are severely impaired following a brain haemorrhage. They are kind, patient and always cheerful around him. Reassuringly they will also respond quickly to hie medical needs and emergencies. I am confident his needs and wellbeing are in safe hands.

I am extremely pleased with the way they keep control of the virus by using sprays to make sure that all visitors use the "sanitizer" before entering the building.

My mum has been in Icknield Court for 2 and 1/2 years now. In that time, her dementia has progressed. Slowly at first but with lockdown, has accelerated significantly, in addition to more problems with her mobility. During her time at the home, I have been so impressed with the staff and management. They have been so caring and patient with Mum, even when she is being very difficult. They have gone out of their way to make Mum comfortable and as happy as she can be. Visits (both garden and now internally) have been managed excellently with great attention to safety and cleanliness. Their communication with me has been fantastic and they are always willing to discuss any concerns. It is clear that they care very much about the residents and I am so happy that my mum is in a home that, during this difficult time, is doing it's very best to keep its residents safe, well and happy.

Overall Experience
My mother was resident at Icknield Court from 2016 to 2020. During that time I can honestly say that her care and treatment was exemplary. I would turn up unannounced several times a week and, generally speaking, I always found my mother being cared for by the excellent staff in the best way possible. Her room was always clean, as was her bathroom. When questioned about her health the carers were able to give me a clear picture and if anything of importance occurred I was informed by telephone.
All of this may sound like a sweeping statement but I'm an extremely fussy person so anything less than 100% would be noticed immediately. I cannot think of one occasion where I found anything other than quality carers doing a quality job.

Unfortunately, my mother has now moved on to a nursing home where she will receive the more intensive care she now needs, Personally, I would have preferred her to stay at Icknield Court but this just wasn't possible.

Our visit (my husband and I) was a garden visit for half an hour, which we had to book ahead. It was a cool day so our relative was brought from her room to meet us in the garden. She was comfortably ensconced in a wheelchair and wrapped up well with blankets. Her carer was very attentive and helped her with her communication with us and sought to stir her interest in our visit. Because of dementia, this can be difficult. Lovely surroundings in the garden.

Our visit was a prearranged garden visit of 1/2 hour. My sister was a little reluctant to come out to the garden but the carer in her home encouraged her to come and see us. Although it was a little cold sitting outside, my sister was well covered with blankets. The carer who brought her out and stayed with her was very helpful and attentive to her needs. She was very distant and we tried to stimulate her interest. The carer helped as well. We noticed how well she responded to the carer.

I cannot praise enough all the carers on House 1. They have been exemplary in their care of my husband and it hasn't always been an easy task! There are too many to name individually but we hope they know how appreciative we are of their compassion and care to our family and my husband. The staff outside of House 1 have also been wonderful in supplying great food, keeping him clean/tidy and the admin staff has always been supportive. The recent addition of a bedside buddy doing video calls has also been a wonderful help during the pandemic.
