Broomhills has an idyllic rural location looking over the river estuary, which can be viewed from the conservatory. A peaceful setting for a nice cup of tea and a chat with families or friends. Broomhills boasts of 3 large gardens, one with a patio, so there is always a nice area to walk or sit and relax.

Broomhills is a delightful older style building full of character, homely and comfortable. Although rooms are furnished items can be brought in to ensure you are as relaxed as possible. There are always activities for you to join in if you wish, it is your choice.

There are country and river views from all aspects of the building.

Due to the rural setting there are lots of opportunities to see wildlife and for bird watchers.

Broomhills sits back from the main roads, so there is a peaceful and tranquil feel.

My late grandmother was cared for at Broomhills, the staff are fantastic and looked after her really well. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the care home. The last manager didnt make contact with us after my grandmother died which we all thought was a real shame. I know the manager before would have.
thank you Broomhills for looking after my Nan in her final days - she was happy there.

Choosing a care home for my loved one, is one of the hardest tasks I've undertaken but I needn't have worried. I can't believe the difference in mums wellbeing since joining Broomhills. The staff have bought out the very best in her and she enjoys the weekly trips out, craft activities and the coffee
and quiz mornings.
Nothing is too much trouble for the new manager and her remarkable team. They are very kind and caring but more importantly, they know their residents and meet their needs. The home is currently going through refurbishment and it looks amazing. The gardens and grounds are incredible and are a beautiful place to sit whilst visiting your loved ones.
A weekly visit from the hairdresser means mum feels pampered, a doctor's service is available should she need it and the monthly chiropody appointment keeps her feet in check. The access to a NHS dentist who also visits, has been a welcomed addition. Thank you for caring for mum so wonderfully, I really appreciate you all.

I find Broomhills care home very friendly and professional. Staff are caring, and approachable and treat each resident as an individual. The activities provided are excellent. My mother in law was taken out on the day before her birthday and had a fish + chip lunch, and even a swing on a disability
swing.

My mum came to Broomhills in June after a decision to remove her from the home she had been a resident in for a year and a half.
Broomhills came highly recommended from a friend of mine whose mother-in-law resides with you.
My mum seems to have settled in very well now after a small hiccup that set
her back a bit.
I cannot thank the staff enough for being so kind and attentive to her needs and making her feel so welcome.
I am of the understanding Mum is eating well and joins in the activities. There is always something going on to keep the residents occupied and a good deal of thought into what activities they do.
I am very impressed with The Tools Down idea as it gives each resident some one-on-one time with a carer to do something they like, it's a great idea.
Nothing is too much bother for the staff and they treat the residents with the kindness and care they individually deserve.
Keep up the good work.

The staff at Broomhills are always friendly and welcoming when we visit. They have taken the time to get to know my father-in-law and have gone out of their way to ensure they have his favourite snacks for him. He is well cared for and comfortable and has a clean room. We feel really lucky that he has
a room in this excellent home.

My mother-in-law became a resident in early December and we can honestly say her quality of life has improved dramatically. She settled so quickly which was down to the care, understanding and commitment of all the staff and management to give their residents a happy, safe and warm environment fulfilling
the social interaction, trips out for lunches, walks, shopping and bingo and a constant entertainment facto with singers and dancers, by staff as well and even yoga classes, cake making, the list is endless. Going from a lonely, solitary existence causing depression and anxiety and progressing the dementia, she is now happy, content, settled and enjoys her new way of life. This leaves us, as a family, happy and relieved she has taken to her new life so well and in all down to the staff of the home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.730)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.730) out of 10 for Broomhills is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.930 for Broomhills is calculated as follows: ( (133 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.93
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broomhills is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Paul Jiggens

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2026

My name is Paul Jiggens, and I am the Home Manager at Broomhills. I started at Broomhills when I was just 16 years old as a domestic, and I quickly moved into care. The second I stepped through the doors, I knew this was where my career was going to grow.

I progressed to Care Team Leader and then went on to become Deputy Manager at Kathryn Court. Every step of my journey has helped shape me into the manager I am today, giving me the experience and understanding of what it truly takes to provide high-quality care.

I strongly believe in person-centred care. For me, that means really knowing each resident as an individual, their life story, their routines, their likes and dislikes, and what makes them feel comfortable and happy. No two people are the same, so their care should never be the same. It’s about making sure each person feels heard, valued, and involved in decisions about their own care.

Dignity and respect are at the heart of everything I do. I make sure our residents are always treated with kindness, patience, and compassion. Supporting someone in the later years of their life is a privilege, and I never lose sight of how important that responsibility is.

I love to have a laugh, and when my residents have the biggest smiles on their faces, it reminds me what this job is all about. My residents are my whole priority. My goal is to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and truly at home during the later years of their lives.
