Broomhills has an idyllic rural location looking over the river estuary, which can be viewed from the conservatory. A peaceful setting for a nice cup of tea and a chat with families or friends. Broomhills boasts of 3 large gardens, one with a patio, so there is always a nice area to walk or sit and relax.

Broomhills is a delightful older style building full of character, homely and comfortable. Although rooms are furnished items can be brought in to ensure you are as relaxed as possible. There are always activities for you to join in if you wish, it is your choice.

There are country and river views from all aspects of the building.

Due to the rural setting there are lots of opportunities to see wildlife and for bird watchers.

Broomhills sits back from the main roads, so there is a peaceful and tranquil feel.

My mother became a resident at Broomhills at the beginning of May 2016, throughout this period to date, the care she has received has been very good. The staff are caring, understanding, reassuring and responsible, promoting dignity, independence, and most importantly ensuring the safety of individual
residents. There is also a strong presence and motivation for our mother to view Broomhills as her home, which has been important to myself and my family, not only do we feel that we can be relaxed when visiting but also our mother/grandmother is well cared for and safe.

In the week that my wife has been in care my observations are that she has been treated sympathetically and with dignity. She has always been clean and well dressed. Staff members appear to be on hand and visit the lounges regularly to ensure her well-being.

There does not appear to be much conversational

contact between the residents and this could possibly be improved if like minded residents were seated together on a regular basis so that friendships could begin.

Impressed by the staff who seemed to genuinely care and had time for my stepmother and other residents. They knew her and her likes and dislikes. I was regularly informed by phone of any news. They even accommodate and befriended her cat!

My aunt had a fall and was admitted to A & E and within 24 hrs was discharged to her home. After 2 weeks, myself, aunt and social workers decided upon respite. I was apprehensive on the day of taking her there but I was greeted with friendly caring staff, who instantly put us at ease. They took my aunt
on a tour and I was taken to her room. This was like at hotel room, spotless and lovely touches such as flowers, it was great. I met my aunt in the lounge and everywhere people were smiling and couldn't do enough for my aunt or myself. I left feeling 100% better than when I arrived.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.730)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.730) out of 10 for Broomhills is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.930 for Broomhills is calculated as follows: ( (133 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.93
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broomhills is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Paul Jiggens

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2026

My name is Paul Jiggens, and I am the Home Manager at Broomhills. I started at Broomhills when I was just 16 years old as a domestic, and I quickly moved into care. The second I stepped through the doors, I knew this was where my career was going to grow.

I progressed to Care Team Leader and then went on to become Deputy Manager at Kathryn Court. Every step of my journey has helped shape me into the manager I am today, giving me the experience and understanding of what it truly takes to provide high-quality care.

I strongly believe in person-centred care. For me, that means really knowing each resident as an individual, their life story, their routines, their likes and dislikes, and what makes them feel comfortable and happy. No two people are the same, so their care should never be the same. It’s about making sure each person feels heard, valued, and involved in decisions about their own care.

Dignity and respect are at the heart of everything I do. I make sure our residents are always treated with kindness, patience, and compassion. Supporting someone in the later years of their life is a privilege, and I never lose sight of how important that responsibility is.

I love to have a laugh, and when my residents have the biggest smiles on their faces, it reminds me what this job is all about. My residents are my whole priority. My goal is to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and truly at home during the later years of their lives.
