Valentine House is a care home for older people in Silver End, a small village in Essex, close to Braintree and Witham. Black Swan provides short-term, respite care and longer term support to up to 50 residents, including special support for those living with dementia.

The home underwent a large-scale renovation in 2013 and includes spacious bedrooms with ensuite facilities. There are communal areas including the lounge, a well presented dining room and quiet spaces for residents to relax in. There is also has an in-house salon where residents enjoy hairdressing and nail care appointments on a regular basis. The upper floor can be accessed via a lift.

Valentine House has a beautiful private garden with modern patios and a large lawn area backing onto the home’s private car park. The gardens are regularly used throughout the summer months with meals being served in the garden, regular barbeques, birthday celebrations and activities with the local community.

Valentine House has been rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission with an ‘Outstanding’ line in the Responsive category (May 2019).

Valentine House is situated directly at the heart of Silver End, which has a row of shops and a doctor’s surgery directly opposite the home’s entrance. Next door to the home is the beautiful Silver End Memorial Garden and the nearby Church. Residents are welcome to explore the local area if they wish.

My family and I are very pleased to have found such a caring residential home for my mother. I am constantly impressed by the care and general dedication of all staff. The rooms are warm and comfortable, the menu is excellent and the facilities leave nothing to be desired. Excellent all round.

My family are overall pleased with the care shown and the staff have always been so caring and show so much concern and interest. They always keep in contact with the condition of my sister and any problems that crop up. The staff are friendly and helpful with information and time.

Lovely friendly caring staff. No need for me to worry about my father's care whilst there. He has settled really well and seems happy and contented as he can be given his recent loss of his wife of 61 years.

My mother has Alzheimer's and is diabetic. Before going into care she refused her medication, wasn't eating properly, frequently had falls, was constantly abusive towards me. Now, however, after one year at Valentine House, she is healthwise more stable, much nicer to be with. The care she receives
from the staff is first rate. My thanks to each and every member of the staff at Valentine House.

My Mum has been in Valentine House for 2 and a half years and I am very happy with the care and support Mum receives from all staff who are very friendly. She has made two good friends and now has company and someone to talk to. She enjoys the entertainment and activities when she is well enough to

I can only thank all of the staff at Valentine House who looked after Mum so well up to the time she sadly passed. The team there were always courteous and helpful at all times and made mum's last months with us so much more pleasurable. From the day we first met the team to the last day, I can only
praise them and although I am not going to mention names, they know who they are. A massive thank you.

My dad came to Valentine House for two weeks respite care. The staff have all been helpful and kind. They really know how to make everyone feel welcome. They have a great selection of food and activities daily, including daily walks to the local park. The management are so professional but also exceptionally
competent. I would have no hesitation in recommending this care home and hope that dad will visit again.
