Woodbury Court

Tavistock Road, Laindon, Basildon SS15 5QQ

As you enter into Woodbury Court it seems very quiet and peaceful but as you move along the corridors and meet the residents and staff the home comes alive. Staff pride themselves on activity-based care and involve residents in all that they do. Promoting independence and choice is paramount.

The home has warm, welcoming and cosy dining rooms and lounges. But if a quiet place is needed that can also be found, choice is so important.

Woodbury Court was rated 'Outstanding' by the CQC following inspection in April 2017.

Overview

The Review Score of 8.3 (maximum of 10) for Woodbury Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Woodbury Court in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.649 for Woodbury Court is calculated as follows: ( (64 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.649

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.66 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodbury Court is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5

    2. Target of 18.8 positive Reviews (94 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 18.8 Target = 0.160

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

8.3 Woodbury Court has a Review Score of 8.3 (8.309) from 8 Reviews

I find the care home clean, warm and a relaxing environment. The staff are kind and caring, nothing is too much trouble. It feels like home from home. The food is a very high standard. Lots of activities for residents to join in if they wish.

My mum arrived late on a Friday in a confused and upset state, after a very long wait in the hospital discharge area. On arrival, she was made to feel welcome and the team helped mum to settle into her room and get used to her new surroundings. Mum now feels safe and well looked after by the lovely team that run the reablement section of the home. A big thank you for looking after my mum so well.

Whilst I accept that nothing other than being able to live independently in your own home will ever be perfect, I think that the staff do a very good job to try and make life as pleasant as possible for the residents. There is also a very varied programme of activities on offer for those who wish to join in.

My choice to come here was because my husband had to come here and he was well looked after. I couldn't let him come alone after being married and to have known him all my life. I have built up good friendships with staff and management, they were so good when he died here. My sister is in a care home. Also well looked after and same group. Lovely freshly cooked food, the diet very well balanced. After coming through the second world war and rationing - we are truly blessed. It is safer living here than on my own and life is what you make it. Thank you- God Bless.

Following a massive heart attack and ten days later a major stroke, mum spent ten weeks in hospital, these have been life changing events for her. On leaving hospital she was no longer able to live an independent existence in her own home.
Woodbury Court was chosen at short notice, as this had not been a slow decline in mums health which would have allowed preparation for her long term care.
Social Services suggested Woodbury Court and we had a quick check with a family member who had one of their parents cared for there also.
Prior to the sudden change in mum's health, she was still shopping, gardening and riding her bicycle and had only recently given up line dancing at 90 (as the floors were not good to dance on).
On arriving at Woodbury Court, mum had not walked in ten weeks, she was unable to stand unaided, had little or no control of her bodily functions, had lost a considerable about of body mass, she was weak and was extremely frail, confused and disorientated.
The staff at Woodbury Court, on mums arrival, had in place the appropriate measures to safeguard her in her new home. The room was pleasant and well furnished.
In a short period of time, mum's mobility had started to come back and in about a week, she was gaining weight and interacting with the staff. Mentally she was also improving although slowly.
It was recognised, during one of a number of care plan reviews, that mum would benefit from moving to a downstairs room should one become available. As she was at times becoming unsettled in her new environment and was asking about where would she live?
Recently she has been able to move to a ground floor room. This has restored her unsettled mental state and she is now comfortable in her new home. The move has improved her mobility, interaction with staff and other residents. She now uses the dining room and courtyard, all of which has improved her physical and mental ability.
All the progress that my mum has made in this short period of time (she entered the home in early July) is due to the management and staff's level of care, support, interaction, professionalism, knowledge and understanding of the needs of the people in their care.
I will add that this is also shown with the understanding and tolerance, when needed, to the resident's families. For whom it is also an extremely stressful event to hand the care of a relative over to complete strangers.

I have found that the main office and the staff upstairs at the re-enablement unit 1st class and very professional and an asset to the company. I would like to compliment the lady in the office and all staff for being so helpful and taking the time to answer any questions.

My mother-in-law needed to be cared for in a residential home from last October following a series of falls. She also has vascular dementia. We viewed several care homes in the vicinity, but were most impressed with Woodbury because of the wealth of themed rooms & corridors which provide stimulation, memories & talking points.
During our visit a resident spoke to us, clearly somewhat confused & the tenderness & compassion shown by the staff to this lady almost had us in tears, it was so beautiful.
Mum moved there in October 2015, has a beautiful room, which is always kept scrupulously clean. The home itself doesn't smell - as many others do & the staff have been nothing but helpful. As a family we could not sing their praises highly enough. We have been astounded again & again at the care, concern & dignity accorded to mum.
Well done Woodbury.
