Crowstone House, which was rated 'Outstanding' by the CQC in January 2018, is situated on the sea front at Westcliff-on-Sea, the view from the main lounge overlooks the Thames Estuary and whether a beautiful sunny day or wild and windy the view is always very exceptional. Westcliff, as it borders Southend, has been classified as a conservation area to preserve its beauty. Crowstone with a classical feature turret room used for activities, is an older building full of character and offers you a home from home. Crowstone House provides everything Mum needs. A good and varied menu, warmth, comfort, and entertainment. The caring staff often interacts with her and the activity organiser provides and plans excellent weekly activity programs to stimulate and occupy them. Mum has air cushions on her chair and bed
to keep her comfortable and prevent pressure sores. She is visited by a chiropractor, dementia nurse, GP, and hairdresser regularly. All medication, weight, health, and temperament are carefully monitored.

My relative was very happy during his stay in the home and his mental heath improved so much. I heard him laugh for the first time in ages. I only wish he'd had more time. Thanks to everyone for making his stay such a happy time.

My grandad has been in a few care homes and this is by far the best one. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, they are compassionate and caring. The home itself is well staffed, great location, always clean, great layout and lots of activities/things to do for the residents. Very well run all
in all.

My mother-in-law has been at Crowstone House since February 2023 due to her declining health and we have thought the staff and home super throughout.
In December the home was turned into a magical place for Christmas. On Christmas Day when we visited the staff had gone above and beyond to make the
day like a traditional family Christmas, with all staff including management there to make the day special. This treatment isn’t something reserved for special occasions, but each resident and their families are made to feel welcome and important every day and like in a home away from home.
Sadly, Mum passed away just after New Year and the support and dignity granted to us all was superb. Nothing was too much trouble - we were allowed all the time we needed at Mum’s side, offered drinks and snacks and more importantly it was abundantly clear that Mum was in the team’s hearts and her best interests at the forefront of every decision. We cannot thank the Crowstone Team enough.

The staff at Crowstone House were magnificent with Dad. They took him in at very short notice, tended to his every need and were kind and compassionate to the end. Dad loved his food and ate very well three times a day, with umpteen cups of tea, with biscuits! The attention and care he received were
second to none and I cannot thank the staff enough.

What a lovely home. The carers are amazing. All very attentive and any questions I have they know the answers instantly or find out for me. Any health issues that mum has the home are straight on it, calling the GP if necessary and meds supplied and given straight away. The home is always very clean
and tidy and I am very happy that Mum is in good hands.

Very caring and friendly staff. Always greeted with a smile. Mum is very happy here, there are regular visits from people who entertain the residents including a man with a piano who gets everyone singing. There are activities that they do too.

Our mother has become more difficult to deal with recently and required a lot of care. Words can not really convey the care and attention the team at Crowstone have dedicated to trying to help our mother during her stay. With the efforts of the team there were even some days she agreed to join in the

My mother receives fabulous care at Crowstone House. The activities and outings are tremendous and Mum has never looked better; above all, we know she is safe.
The food looks incredible and we know she receives a balanced diet.
The staff are all amazing and one member of staff in particular does an
incredible job here.

When arriving at Crowstone, I am always greeted with helpful staff, who are always aware of where my father is. My father seems very content there and seems happy with the care given to him. He seems very happy with catering facilities too. I'm pleased that they have employed a staff member who supplies

My mum entered your care on discharge from her third hospital stay in three months. What a fantastic place Crowstone House Care Home. We are delighted with all of your kindness and care that all of you are providing to Mum. She is settled in and very content and already so much better in her health

As a recently retired secondary school teacher and head of a department in an Ofstead-rated 'Outstanding' school, I have had vast experience observing other staff and students at work. I visit my elderly mother 6 days a week, every week at Crowstone and automatically reflect on all sorts of day-to-day
activity within the home based on vital criteria. The result is I am highly satisfied that my mother is undoubtedly given outstanding care, support and attention. Just so grateful to Crowstone for making her 'part of the family'- I haven't seen her this happy in years. If I am not happy with something, believe me, I would certainly say so, but I have absolutely no care for concern whatsoever and I can only thank Crowstone staff and management for making my mother's twilight years so happy and special. Our mum was discharged to Crowstone House in June 2022, unfortunately, she took a turn for the worst later in the year. The staff have been so caring and made sure a care plan was followed. Our mum improved in simple day-to-day activities even managing with daily encouragement to eat and drink, her
well-being and mental health noticeably improved. We cannot thank the staff and management enough. The team work so hard to keep the residents safe. I have visited late in the evening I have only heard the staff treating the residents with the utmost care and dignity they deserve.

My mother aged 102 has been a resident at Crowstone House since May 2022 and the care given to her has been outstanding. I and Mum's other daughter have no complaints whatsoever. The room is suitable for Mum together with an ensuite and other areas like the dining room and lounges are very spacious.

Would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a lovely, friendly, clean home with good food and facilities in a fantastic location right on the seafront. Also has a big terrace overlooking the sea and a huge back garden and fish pond, ideal for big family visits.

How life at Crowstone House has improved under the new management and the lifting of Covid restrictions. Now activities are taking place regularly, there is far more stimulation for all residents. Staff are always friendly and generally responsive to requests. They seem to cope well with the demands
and needs of the residents, which cannot always be easy!

Hi, I’m Maria, the Home Manager at Crowstone House.


I began my journey at Crowstone House in 2018 and quickly fell in love with the home, our residents, and the dedicated team I now have the pleasure of leading. My career here has been incredibly rewarding and diverse. I started in the laundry department, then moved into care as a Care Assistant. Over time, I progressed through roles as Care Team Leader, Unit Manager, and Deputy Manager before taking on the role of Home Manager.


My hands-on experience across all areas of the home has given me a deep understanding of the care we provide and a strong connection with our residents. I am passionate about creating a warm, safe, and supportive environment where every resident feels valued, respected, and truly at home, especially those living with dementia.


It is an honour to manage such a special place, and I’m proud to be part of a team that puts people at the heart of everything we do.
