The Review Score of 9.3 (maximum of 10) for Westlands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 21 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Westlands Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 4.291 for Westlands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (106 Excellents x 5) + (113 Goods x 4) + (31 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 251 Ratings = 4.291
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 4.98 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westlands Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:
3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4
Target of 10.2 positive Reviews (51 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 10.2 Target = 0.980
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
Westlands Care Home has a Review Score of 9.3 (9.271) from 21 Reviews
Review submitted from a Website Submission by Julie B (Daughter of Resident) on Thursday 19 April 2018. Relates to March 2018.
My father was a resident of Westlands Care Home for two days short of a year. He died on the 25 March 2018.
I am grateful to the entire care team for their love and care of Dad, who went through many stages of dementia; each stage met with kindness and good humour.
In the beginning, I organised a shed to be built in the grounds so that my father could garden if he wished and the Westlands Management Team arranged for the entire garden to be securely fenced so that Dad could have as much freedom as possible.
As his illness progressed, the staff moved his room several times so that he could get concentrated care and feel part of a central hub.
During his last days when he was in bed continually, the nursing care was excellent and he was happy and peaceful. His door was open
and there were always people coming and going. As one nurse said 'We love our patients' .... and they do.

Whilst in temporary respite care my husband was extremely well looked after and he was so obviously happy and enjoying his stay. His room was large and pleasant and the staff are friendly and efficient. He could not have been better looked after.

Our mother, who suffered with dementia, was a resident at Westlands for over two years. In that time, she was extremely well looked after by the staff at Westlands who showed great kindness and care to our mum.

My mother moved to Westlands Care Home in February 2015 at the age of 98 after showing signs of dementia. From the beginning, I was impressed with the 'care' factor. This continued throughout her 3-year stay there.Staff at all levels had the same caring attitude to the residents. Among the organised activities mum particularly liked painting, crafts and the live music afternoons. Living within a few miles of the home, I was a regular visitor turning up unannounced at different times.
Sadly mum became terminally ill last year but was looked after until the end. I would not hesitate to recommend the home.

My mother was in the north wing of the home and we found it to always be a pleasant place to visit. It was large, sunny and with plenty of space to sit or move around when visiting. The carers were friendly and helpful and appeared to do their best to keep mum comfortable, well fed and entertained.

My fellow priest has been welcomed warmly into Westlands House, which is not only a care home but a very caring home. The management and staff are warm and accepting and make themselves easily available: I could not fault them on their patience and dedication. There are many young people working on the staff, which gives the place a bright and lively feel. The house itself is situated in a country setting, making for a peaceful atmosphere with lovely views. I feel very lucky that my priest friend has landed safely in such a lovely home.

My mother has been a resident at the home since June of this year and I live locally and visit at least every other day. The staff are always welcoming, friendly and extremely caring. If a resident looks distressed, the carers will take their hand or put their arm around them and help to reassure them. The carers often sit with the residents and chat to them and will help them eat their meals if required. The carers get on well and are a great team. Mum's room is always tidy and she is well looked after. The home is well presented and facilities are good.

My husband moved from home to Westlands Care Home as an emergency admission of the homes available at the time Westlands Care Home was the most helpful and supportive. All the staff were friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to help him settle. When he said he enjoyed crumpets- not on the menu- they quickly went and bought some. The rooms are comfortable when he needed end of life care he was moved to a larger room with two lots of windows and a hospital bed. The carers visited regularly to monitor his progress/treatment. On my daily visits, I was updated with his progress. Support after his death was helpful with all necessary contacts sorted.

Our mother has been in the care home for about 4 months, we chose it because of the family feel that we felt it had, we were told the care given by the stay was good and has proved to be so. There are always plenty of staff on hand and we are kept well informed of mum's progress or problems.

The way mum is looked after is perfect. She is happy and settled in the home. Every member of staff is friendly and always willing to help. It is a comfort for my family knowing that mum is in the correct home. Visiting hours are 24/7 which shows there is nothing to hide. We had a tour of the complete home before mum went there, all our questions and concerns were answered and we knew that Westlands was the right place for mum to be. There are regular activities for the residents to take part in. The staff are all hard working and treat all the residents well. As a family, we are extremely grateful for mum's care.

My overall view of Westlands Care Home by myself and my family is very good. They are always approachable and open to discussion and try hard to accommodate. I would not move my father as the home is just right for him - it provides a cosy, caring, safe, and happy environment. Staff are very good and do their best. Overall I am very happy with the home, staff and the care given to my father. Thank you.

The care home is by far the best of the many that I have seen over the last 10 years the premises are beautifully maintained with areas that allow the residents to be as private or sociable as they wish. The staff are without exception friendly, professional and very kind to my mum. I have always been sceptical about mother going into a care home because she has always deteriorated during the spells she has spent in them. In a couple of months at Westlands mum has improved a lot and looks healthier than she has done for years.

MY father has been here since March 2014 after my mother passed away and he was no longer able to live alone. He was a very confused and grieving man but the staff here did everything they could to settle him in. He is still confused, as is the nature of dementia, but he is as happy as he can be and thinks the world of the staff. The staff are all very approachable and as I live abroad they keep me informed of any major decisions and also facilitate communication from me to my father. It is very reassuring to me to know that he is well cared for, listened to, encouraged to live his life as best he can, safe and as happy as it is possible for him to be.

We have been impressed with the caring staff at Westlands Care Home. They took the time to talk to our mum which we were aware of because they were able to relate to us stories from the past. She liked the communal lounges colour scheme and inspired us to give her colour co-ordinated clothes! We appreciated the offer of a pot of tea at each of our visits. This was not only welcome but gave a focus to the visits when we were no longer able to play cards with mum.

My mother has lived at Westlands room from 2011 - 2015. I have always found Westlands to be a warm, friendly home and I have been content that my mother was well looked after. All the care staff were approachable and friendly, my mother seems to have good relationships with them. The home is clean and a varied menu is provided. There is usually two or more forms of entertainment each week. Although on the costly side, the only issue was loss of clothes. But one to the nature of the home, clothing is regularly subject to heavy washing.

I was relieved to find that Westlands were able to accommodate my father on a daily basis, when it was required, during a house move. Westlands did a plan for the week of days and varying times some including meals. It was extremely helpful to know that dad was in a safe place enabling me to concentrate on what I had to achieve. The staff were all welcoming, smiley, friendly and supportive.
