Over all time Westlands Care Home has 88 reviews.
For the past 2 years my brother who is suffering from Alcohol Related Brain Damage which presents itself as dementia has flourished under the care of the Westlands team. Their commitment to stimulate, entertain and care for their residents is second to none.
This review is amazing and we thank you very much for taking the time to do this, your brother has really made great progress and is enjoying our home.
My dad has been in this nursing home for 4 years, he has always been very well looked after. He can be difficult at times due to his dementia however the staff here are so helpful and kind and I could not ask for a better home for him to live in.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments and for entrusting us with Dad's care.
Our elderly uncle was admitted to Westlands from hospital during Covid and we had planned to move him to our local care home. However, we are so glad we decided not to move him as the care he received from all the staff was outstanding. It was a very anxious time, as our uncle was an independent old chap who lived in the house he was born in, but to our relief he settled in quickly at Westlands. Sadly, he passed away this week, but It was a huge comfort to us knowing he had received the best of care throughout his 2-year stay. I have often been upset and tearful when visiting, but I am so grateful for the kindness and help shown by the manager and her team.
We will miss your uncle and you as a family. We are sad that you will not be popping by so much as you became a good 'friend' of Westlands. Take great care and maybe phone every now and again if you can. We really value this wonderful review, it really was our pleasure. Love and respect from Manager and the team.
My brother was fortunate to be admitted to Westlands following a hospital admission. We thought we had lost him to dementia. He was barely able to stand and was disoriented, quiet and distant. He was deemed not to have the mental capacity to manage his finances. The home's manager immediately recognised his presentation was in part down to depression. Today, after just over a year, he is being discharged to a warden-controlled flat. The care, encouragement and support by management and the entire care team have been second to none. As the medication began to work, they were able to build his physical strength so that he regained the ability to walk and now just relies on a stick for a little confidence. The staff through activity, verbal stimulation and encouragement brought him back mentally so he has regained the mental capacity to deal with his affairs. He literally has a second chance at life, and as a family, we are so grateful. Thank you.
What a wonderful review. The team are very proud of your brother and themselves; you are so right, a second chance at life now. We will miss you all and the chats with you, such a lucky man to have such a caring family. Best wishes.
With a wide range of entertainment and activities that keep him occupied in his own little world.
Thank you.
Thank you for taking valuable time to complete this review for us, we really do appreciate your lovely comments.
When I visited before he was admitted I was so impressed with the staff and their welcome to me.
My husband settled there very quickly and the staff are so caring for his needs. I love their relationship with other residents too, they truly understand that everyone is different.
There are so many activities and events being organised on a regular basis which is stimulating for everyone. I love seeing people joining in, even if their mobility is limited. My husband loves it and the events are diverse so there is always something happening to suit most people.
I cannot fault the care provided by the staff, every consideration is given to people’s individual needs. As I was my husband’s only carer for over 17 years, I am reassured that everyone is looking after him so well.
I don’t know another home that provides such a wonderful caring service with more than making sure the residents are comfortable.
Sheila, what can I say?, this review is truly amazing and we are so very pleased that you have the confidence to care for your dear husband, we will continue to make Westlands a fun home that is caring and stimulating and at the same time making it home from home for families too.
My husband transferred from the hospital to Westlands. During his seven-week stay, we realised that the entire team at Westlands fully deserved the high praise given to them by those with much longer stays than his. In the course of dealing with their various needs, they also managed to respect and foster residents' sense of independence. To achieve all this, plus a touch of humour says much for the culture of Westlands. This is a happy, caring environment.
Hi Rena, thank you for this wonderful review. Not only will we miss him and his exercises in the morning, dancing to music in front of the TV, but we will dearly miss you, always so loving and caring, both of you. We are also so pleased that he recovered well and was able to return home. What a...
My father lived at Westlands from 2020 to his death in 2023. Having been diagnosed with dementia, Dad settled happily into life at Westlands. The difference in him was remarkable - no longer did he seem stressed or uneasy, as he had done when living with us and in sheltered housing. He began to enjoy life again. I found all the staff the most lovely people I could hope to meet; the bedrooms comfy, clean and bright; the grounds beautiful green spaces, and always something fun happening. I think Dad particularly enjoyed the regular visits from local dogs, eg River, a gorgeous golden retriever. I used to wheel Dad up the pretty country lane to a local golf club to partake of a beer, crisps, etc, where he had the added bonus of meeting friendly local people, a great pleasure to him. He'd have a good time but was always happy to get back to Westlands. It quickly became 'home' to Dad and a very happy home at that.
Each and every member of staff were all so welcoming, caring and friendly to my Mother-in-Law, (who is a temporary resident being assessed) and also to us. They put our minds at rest on every level and for that, we are extremely grateful. The activities at this home are second to none which creates a happy atmosphere for all the residents and those that are able are happy to get involved. Nursing staff have some challenges along the way but they carry out their duties in a caring and professional manner at all times. They are interested in what people like to eat and drink and try to accommodate when they can.
The gardens at this home are a joy for the residents to enjoy when weather permitting and the surrounding area is also beautiful.
Thank you so much for your lovely review and very kind words to our team, we are so very proud of each and every one of them.
It is a joy to care for Mum whilst she is with us and we will miss her deeply when it is time for her to move back home, we will also miss her wonderful family who have been so supportive of our home.
Kind Regards
My mother was discharged to assess from hospital to Westlands Care Home in April 2022 with vascular dementia and challenging behaviour. I cannot thank the staff enough for their patience and care throughout the six months she was there. Unfortunately, as the care home was a long way from me and she was very keen to get out of the care home I decided to move her closer to me. Big mistake. Although the care she is getting now is very good she misses the happy atmosphere in Westlands. The staff were all so respectful and considerate in spite of the challenges she presented from time to time and nothing was too much trouble. There was always lots going on there - although she refused to take part, it created a buzzy atmosphere. I've realised now that wherever my mother is in care she wouldn't be happy but Westlands was where she was most settled. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Thank you for this wonderful review and for taking the time to complete it in what sounds like a difficult situation to be in.
We were only talking about mum the other day and wondering how she was settling, we do really miss her and the wonderful character that she has, please give our love to your mum when you see her.
After shielding for a prolonged period of time during the pandemic before he became ill, Dad had become isolated and set in his ways. He was anxious upon being told he would be transferred to Westlands Care Home and upon arrival did not want to engage with anyone. The carers and nursing staff have been absolutely amazing. They have always treated him with kindness and compassion, as well as never failing to greet him cheerfully. Thanks to their gentle perseverance in making him feel welcome and valued, he feels cared for and safe which were his primary concerns. Good food and encouragement from these wonderful people meant he began to regain enough strength to be independent with his personal care which has boosted his morale. The nurses and carers have also taken time to talk to Dad and learn about his interests, bringing him out of himself to the point where he looks forward to seeing them and sharing a joke. The family are grateful for all their commitment and professionalism, they are truly very special and a credit to Westlands Care Home.
Dad has settled well after his first day with us and I know that him being comfortable and happy will make you as a family comfortable knowing this too.
I have been in Westlands Care Home now for a few months, I am pleased with the service on a 24-hour basis. Every need is well covered.
Thank you for this amazing review, we are so pleased that you are comfortable in our home and we have pleasure in providing our continued support.
My mother was admitted to Westlands Care Home in March this year. It took her a couple of weeks to settle in, supported by all the staff at all times. She is always treated with care and dignity. She has some dementia but has actually improved since being there. She tells us it's like being in a 5-star hotel. Every time either myself or others visit, we are made to feel welcome. I am very impressed with all the care given and grateful.
Mum really is doing well and it is lovely to see how settled she is in her new home, she is a pleasure to support as are you as a family.
My dad was discharged here from hospital but I couldn't have wished for better staff or more genuine, kind care. They are all excellent. Nothing seems too much trouble.
Thank you so much for this wonderful review.
After much deliberation and visiting numerous care homes, my father and I were very reluctant to put my mother in a home and then we were told about Westlands. We did two-week respite care initially to see how things went. The care and attention they gave my mum was first class. She is now a very happy and well looked after permanent resident. The staff are lovely and the home is run extremely well. I can't thank the staff enough for how they care for and look after my mum.
Kindest regards
This care home is amazing. My mum is here and all the staff are outstanding. Before I went to the home to visit Mum I had a real phobia about care homes as some people do but once I had been to visit my mum many times found out how this care home actually worked looking after the residents there. All the staff put the residents first in all situations and their care for them is outstanding. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming to the visitors of the residents and keep you in touch with the ways the residents are coping and how they are doing. They treat the residents with the utmost respect and the fact they are so good with the dementia residents is amazing. There are activities during the day for the residents that are able and the joy on the faces of the residents is lovely to see. I have started to get to know a few other residents there and they are all so nice to see and speak to. The care of the staff is so affectionate to the residents and treats them like their own family.
The Westlands family would like to thank you for this lovely review, it really is an honour to support your mum, she is an absolute pleasure and we truly do wish you and your family the very best in very sad circumstances for you and your family. We look forward to welcoming you as you visit and we are always on hand to talk should you need to.
Kindest regards
Consistently excellent in every aspect; professional, friendly, kind, approachable and nothing is ever too much trouble! Always positive and always smiling! They have also been exceptionally accommodating and open.
Kind regards
Helen
Even though the staff are very busy they are always so kind to the residents and their families who visit their loved ones and find time to spend and listen to the resident's care and needs. I’m happy my mum is looked after so well. The staff are so friendly and always have time for you with any queries.
Thank you Fen for taking the time to give us this review, we are very honoured to support not only mum but her wonderful family
Westlands is a fantastic care home. My father stayed there for end of life care and the team and facilities are outstanding. The home is bright and friendly, well maintained and offers excellent facilities. Right from the time my father became a resident, the staff went above and beyond to make visiting available despite the difficult times we are all in. Nothing seemed too much trouble for my father and the level of care could not have been better. I would not think twice about choosing Westlands or hesitate in recommending them to anybody for their care needs. My family and I consider us very lucky that my father was able to spend his last few months in the care of Westlands, not only do they care for their residents but that level of care extends to the family as well and this is due to the dedication and commitment of the staff. Thank you to all the team at Westlands.
Please pass on our gratitude to the family for this wonderful review, we know that this has been submitted at a very sad time in your lives. Westlands were very honoured to support dad and you as a family in the final stages of his life, you are all very much missed, dad has left a...
I have found my three weeks respite very good. The staff were very caring in many ways and I felt well cared for. My bedroom was very comfortable and the catering was very good. Many thanks to all the staff.
Thank you for taking the time to give this lovely review. We were so very blessed to be able to support you for the three weeks respite and would love to do so again, should you need us.
