Someone living with our definition of "mild dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Memory problems such as misplacing items and not be able to recall recent events (however, in some forms of dementia a person's memory may be unchanged)
- Difficulties thinking through problems and planning, making decisions
- Language and communication issues such as finding it difficult to recall the appropriate word in a conversation or following a conversation

- Difficulty judging distances (more falls than usual)

Moderate Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "moderate dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Worsened memory problems. Not always recognising own family members and friends. Repeating the same questions over and over again
- Worsened language and communication issues, forgetting what they are saying mid-sentence. Not being able to understand what someone else is saying
- More frequent confusion, e.g. about the time of day or where they are, including their own home
- Apathy, depression and anxiety
- Believing things that aren't true (paranoia)
- Frequent hallucinations
- Lack of emotional control, quick to anger, fearfulness, sadness
- Loss of inhibition
- Difficulties sleeping or waking during the night and behaving as though it is daytime - loss of circadian rhythm.
Advanced Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "severe dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Severe memory problems. Not recognising family members and friends. Not being able to recall their own name
- Severe language and communication issues, not being able to understand what someone else is saying
- Severe confusion, e.g. about the time of day or where they are, including their own home
- Apathy, depression and anxiety
- Believing things that aren't true (paranoia)
- Frequent hallucinations
- Lack of emotional control, quick to anger, fearfulness, sadness

My aunt has been in Lavender House for over four years now. She is happy to live there and loves all the staff and has nothing but praise for them.
Lavender House is very homely and has a good garden to relax in. When visiting the staff are very helpful and friendly and always make you feel at home.

My experience with visiting Lavender House. Over the last few years, we have found all the staff excellent and they treat all the residents with care and respect.
No matter what time of the day we visit, the residents seem to be very happy and smiley.

My father is a resident at Lavender House and I can honestly say I wouldn't want him anywhere else.
The home is a credit and a beacon of hope for many people in an industry that fails on so many levels.
The staff treat every resident like they are their own blood. They go above and beyond to ensure that the residents and their families are always looked after.

The only other thing I can say is a premium brand of lager don't do care homes but if they did they would be like this one.

My wife has been in Lavender House for almost a year. She has been looked after extremely well and loves all the staff who love her in return. I have absolutely no concerns as to he well being whilst in Lavender House.

My husband has been in Lavender House for the last three and a half years. The care, love and support both he and our family have received is second to none.
The management and staff are so dedicated to all the residents and nothing is too much trouble for them.

Deciding on a care home for Mum was probably the hardest decision we have ever needed to make. Worrying whether she would settle, and concern over the care she would receive. From day one, we knew we had made the right decision in choosing Lavender House, and feel that we now have a huge extension to our family! The staff are always welcoming, inclusive and caring, treating all of the residents with the dignity and respect they deserve. Mum is so happy and content, and most importantly safe. The staff are always on hand to help with any requests and welcome us at any time of the day or night. Lavender House provides such a happy environment for residents and their families. There are not enough words to thank the manager and her team for their amazing care and dedication, and we feel so grateful to have found them.

Mum has now been at Lavender House for about 8 months.
Initially, we were unsure where mum would be happiest and best cared for. We couldn't have chosen better and could not have wished for a nicer "home from home".

She is now very content, happy and safe. The staff are all consistently warm, welcoming, attentive and dedicated to all residents in their care. Lavender House provides a wonderful, safe, happy environment for residents and visitors treating all with dignity and respect.

Overall Experience
My dad has been at the home for a few years now. He has a wonderful connection with the staff. They have given him the respect, care and dignity, knowing how to adapt to each stage of change in his care. They have continuously supported us as a family but most of all my mum who visits 3-4 times a week. We are made to feel very welcome and listen to our requests and wishes to help us continue being a family. The staff and management are fantastic!

I write this on behalf of my brother, sister and myself.
Thank you for the dedicated and compassionate care you showed and provided Mum during these last three months.
Within days of arriving in November, she very quickly referred to Lavender House as home and the staff as her family.
