Dad's Care Home was originally known as 'Sunrise' it was taken over by 'Signature' and latterly it's run by 'Avery'. The home has recently had a complete makeover in all communal areas and bedrooms; it looks really luxurious. The Home is on two floors and guests with dementia, needing more intensive care, live on the second floor. The Care Home has always been very welcoming and attentive. Especially the home's Manager and her staff, who have all been wonderful to my father, throughout his stay. The medical support has been excellent and communication is very good, too. Picturesque setting at Elstree View and adequate parking. We are very happy and we thoroughly recommend this Home. I do have concerns that some key staff have left and this could have been avoided. Overall, Elstree View are doing a great job, thank you.

My mum started her time at Elstree View in Assisted Living and has now been in Orchids for a year. Her care is wonderful. The staff are kind and caring and my mum is very content and happy. They seem to know what she needs and when and you can see by and way mum responds to the carers she trusts and loves them. When she can, she joins in with activities but she is happiest in her room being cared for. Thank you to all the staff in Orchids and to all the staff who help and support her.

My parents moved into the home 12 years ago, when they were still active and mobile. They enjoyed their independence while at the same time feeling safe in a protected environment. As they became less able to fend for themselves, they relied more on the care and services offered to them, especially as illnesses began to surface. I have always found the staff friendly and caring and always there to help. Now that my mother is on her own, she still feels secure, receiving all the care that she needs. I feel happy that she is being well looked after and I can visit her at any time.

Reply from Stevie Pugsley, Director of Community Relations at Elstree View Care Home - Avery Collection

It sounds like Elstree View has really been a good fit for your parents, offering them the independence they valued while also providing the care they needed as their health changed. It's wonderful to hear that your mother still feels secure and well cared for, even after your father's passing. That sense of safety and comfort, especially in a time of transition, is so important.

The staff are always on hand and very attentive to my father and stepmother's needs. Nothing appears to be too much trouble, and the staff are always responsive to questions raised. The quality of the food is satisfactory but the service could improve slightly by serving hot food. Overall, very happy with the service provided.

My relative has moved into Elstree View Care home in early March when she was discharged from a recent admission to hospital. The whole process has been brilliant. All the staff that I have met so far are friendly, helpful and welcoming. The admission process was done so efficiently - from viewing the Home to admission was less than a week. Her care has been exemplary. The food is plentiful and tasty with good choice. The building, communal areas and individual rooms are beautiful - freshly decorated with continuing decorating happening in some areas. The entertainment is varied and staff help her to become involved in activities, if she wishes. The clinical and medical care is regular and far easier to access than when she was at home. We feel she is much better looked after 24/7 and much safer in the Home than with a carer in her own home.

My dad moved into Elstre View Care Home in October. The staff have all come out of their way to help him settle in and he is now an active member of the community. He has lived more in the last 3 months than he has in the last three years. He is very comfortable, happy and safe and I can visit him as his daughter and share in his happiness.

My 96-year-old uncle finally agreed to move to a care home after several years of doggedly trying to retain his independence. We, his family and his friends were concerned about his ability to continue living independently. We were glad when all other options were rejected in favour of moving to a care home. We arranged a visit to Elstree View and were very happy to find that members of staff remembered him from a previous stay to convalesce following surgery and made him very welcome. Further discussion achieved agreement and he now resides happily at Elstree View in a very nice flat where he has integrated into the community. It is evident that he is receiving excellent care and is fed regularly and well. He is gently and respectfully treated and his health is monitored and I receive regular reports. It is a pleasure to deal with the staff and our concerns about his living standards and safeguarding have been addressed.

I live in Israel, in a senior citizen community, and was really keen to visit my family and friends in London. But I know that I cannot cope alone in a hotel. My sons heard about Elstree View and one of them visited a while ago, then reported to me that he was confident about my staying with you for a short time. I do not need help with the basics of life, I self-medicate and can shower and dress myself, though I do need a stick for balance etc. I found every member of staff understood my strengths and my weaknesses so that I was confident at all times. I entertained friends for sandwich lunches, and exactly what I had asked for appeared on the table in the Family Room at the right time. We were offered drinks and served beautifully. In every respect I can say that Elstree View and all the staff can be proud of the way that I experienced my ten days with you. Thank you for everything.

Both my parents relocated to 'Elstree View Care Home' several years ago. When my father died, my mother continued to be cared for by the home and has since moved to the reminiscence facility. I have come to know the leadership staff very well, especially during both transitions; and have become better acquainted with the new key staff members and carers over the last few years.

As I live in the USA and cannot visit very often, the connection to the team is critical: they have become my new UK 'family'. They keep me incredibly well and regularly informed as to my mother's well-being; changes in circumstances; and specific needs. I feel completely confident that she is receiving excellent care; and this is consistently backed up by what I see during my visits: patient, attentive and gentle treatment of my mother. While she cannot talk much, the smile on her face when she interacts with the carers assures me that she is comfortable with and respected by them. Exemplary!

Being a volunteer at Elstree is very rewarding, to see the residents' faces light up when I walk through the door says it all. I am made most welcome by the concierge team who I often see interacting with family members, residents and staff. As busy as they are they go that extra mile. A big shout out to the dining room staff who are so attentive, serving all the residents with a smile. The atmosphere is warm, cosy and very homely. You need to have a big heart working in a care home, everyone at Elstree View certainly has one. This home is top-notch, I am giving it a 5-star rating.

The care home team became Mum's second family during her two years of being a resident. The care given came from the heart, not something that can be taught. From the office staff, domestic service team, reception team, laundry team and carers we thank you all. Elstree runs like a well-oiled machine, never failing to provide in all areas. When Mum became unwell the support shown to her and us was exemplary. Whenever we left after visiting we knew she was in good hands and that if a problem did arise the nursing team/carers would keep us updated with any information while also liaising with outside medical teams. The dignity shown in her final days will never be forgotten. The support to me while spending time with mum, people popping in to ensure I was ok, cups of tea and reassurance that if I needed anything “just ask”. As a family we highly recommend Elstree.

I have been working in a care setting for 20 years, and it's been the best choice I made. I had the privilege to grow up with my grandparents around me and care for my mother; therefore, to me, the elderly will always be my family, and as such, it felt special walking into this home eighteen months ago. My role as BOC is central to all other departments, ensuring the administration function continues to flow smoothly. I am committed to helping the dedicated team, residents and families, giving my best at all times. It is always a pleasure when a resident knocks on my door with a query or stops for a chat in the corridor. I enjoy listening to them, I respect them and am always happy to help and bring a smile.
