Spencer House Residential Home

Spencer House is run with care and respect and fun and happiness wherever possible. Staff have been consistent and stable which is great for residents and relatives and shows that morale is good . Manager and Deputy are very accessible and hands on and have lovely relationships with residents and staff . As a relative I can visit at any time , unannounced , and have never felt uncomfortable or witnessed anything with my mum or other residents that have ever caused me any concerns . Mum is always well cared for and safe and I am impressed by the comfort and support they show her every day . Senior care staff are knowledgeable and caring and always responsive in person and over phone .

Fantastic home from home. Wonderful staff. Good food. Clean and tidy. Friendly atmosphere. Can’t recommend Spencer House enough! Mum thought she was on holiday and you could see the sea from her window.

My husband has been in Spencer House now for 6 months after I was unable to give him the 24 hr care which he needed. The staff are brilliant we are all family, the food is good, wholesome food and presented to the resident with care. Diets are catered for. I am always offered a drink when visiting plus a selection of biscuits. There is no praise higher than mine or my husbands.

I live a very long way away in New Zealand. Recently we have been able to send emails to Spencer House, with us receiving some very pleasant emails back and I have been so happy that Dad is receiving our periodic news and hugs and that the Spencer House FaceBook page has been set up so that we see photographs of the day to day happenings at Spencer House and post our own. Dad always seems to be very happy and settled and the staff are very caring both to him and to his wife, which we appreciate very much, particularly with regard to his wife who lives by herself. I believe he regards Spencer House as his home now and feels comfortable, despite wanting to escape sometimes! We enjoy seeing all the other residents' photographs too. I often wonder what they did in their younger lives and would love to see some of their "stories". My own children and grandchildren love seeing the photographs and hearing about their grandpa. Thank you.

I am very pleased that I chose Spencer House, as the staff are very caring, supportive and delightful towards my mother. My mother is happy and settled. She has got her appetite back, so she eats all meals and lots of drinks. Overall, the standard is very high and represents great value for money.

The carers are excellent, the management is very pleasant, and they are all so kind and happy. The activities lady is absolutely brilliant.

I feel my Mother's overall care at Spencer House has been of a very high standard. Originally only as a 12 week disregard, the quality of care/empathy provided by Spencer House staff/management helped us decide that a permanent placement would be most desirable.

My mother is cared for extremely well. Everyone goes the extra mile to tend to her wants and needs. I could not want for more care and attention than she is given here. She is happy living here and considers it her home rather than just a home.

My father went into Spencer House initially for some rest and recuperation but within two days had decided he wanted to stay permanently and was already calling it ‘home’. He has now been there over two years and is very happy and complimentary about the food. Great care and personal attention from all the staff.

My Mum has been resident here for nearly three years now after living on her own became too much for her and she became depressed and hardly ate. This has completely changed since she moved here...the food is excellent, the staff are lovely and there are plenty of activities...Mum has put weight on and is her sociable and happy self again...the downside is that the building is fairly old and is showing its age...the WC facilities are okay and the staff do their best to keep it clean. The more state of the art purpose built care homes obviously look better however Spencer has character and charm and it's more about the staff and the level of care that I cannot fault...the manager is superb, professional yet compassionate, she has been most supportive to my Mum and to me and the owners of the home are also good guys and are very much hands on.

It gives me enormous peace of mind to know that my Mum is happy, safe, well fed and cared for - thanks to all at Spencer for that.

My 88 year old dad moved to Spencer House following the passing of our mum as he was no longer able to manage independently. We visited many homes to find a place he could feel safe, happy and maintain as much independence as possible. Myself and my siblings consider ourselves extremely lucky that Dad was able to move into Spencer House, the place is lovely and doesn't feel like a care home at all but a bigger home where Dad is able to manage himself knowing he has the support he needs. The care staff and managers are exceptional as they always take the time to update me and get me involved with Dad's care and I highly recommend the home.

My dad has been a resident here since October 2018 and I have been so happy with the care my dad has received. The staff are excellent, they are hard working and very attentive to all the residents. The management team are very professional and have a good rapport with residents families and staff, and this shows in the way the home is run. The other excellent features of Spencer House are the high standards of food the residents receive, the home always smells delicious, the other impressive feature is the home is kept very clean.

I attend Spencer House twice a week to entertain the residents I have been doing this for over three years. The staff are lovely and caring and go the extra mile to make sure each resident is looked after. I have only seen a few bedrooms, but the ones I have seen are bright and clean. The management are proactive and if need be, step in and assist the care staff on duty. There is an activities co-ordinator which provides 3 days of activities for the residents. The staff seem to like to work here, and nearly all the staff which work at this care home now were here when I started.

This home provides a great service to my mother who moved in last year, not only with her care and meals but also taking her out on walks and day trips to the local village. She is enjoying her time here and often tells me how Spencer House is like living with a big family.

My father was a resident here for about 6 months before we had to move him. The owners were giving the medication not a nurse, it was given too early including sleeping tablets. On one occasion, we took my father out for a meal on his birthday, we were given his meds and told to give him them at 7-7.30pm inclusive of sleeping tablet. After finishing the meal, my father collapsed on the outside steps with a bad head injury and an ambulance was called. The whole care home is dark and dingy with any old furniture. The nurses on a whole were good but favoured the ladies.
