Management are rude, and unhelpful, no empathy at all. Even the little things like saying 'hello' are a struggle for them. On the day we moved our friend, we arrived to find their belongings put in black bags with no care or respect, they were simply left outside their room like bags of rubbish. No
respect or care given for personal items such as photos which were thrown in a bag with toiletries. They were sent to their new, and I must say, far better home. without all relevant paperwork, including the DNR. We would not recommend this home. Some of the care staff were lovely and kind, and are the only good thing about this place.

Unfortunately, we have limited availability of boxes and so when someone comes into the home without cases or suitable bags we occasionally find ourselves resorting to sacks, however, we do try to avoid it. Yor comments have prompted a change in that we will ask that loved ones bring in suitable cases for packing when needed and we will no longer use black sacks as I fully appreciate this isn't ideal. I was surprised to see such a negative review when we worked so closely with the social care team and the next of kin, it is always difficult when we are unable to fully meet someone's needs. We routinely have a wide array of activities and outings, and always looks to ensure that those that live here are treated with dignity and respect. I have spoken with the management team and both myself and the Manager are very sorry that your experience of the home was so negative, I would be very happy to speak with you regarding your experiences when you visited.

My 94-year-old mum was moved into Shaws Wood in September 2023 after a number of falls and a few weeks in hospital. As Mum’s care is socially funded we did not really have any choice; however, Mum has really landed on her feet and Shaws Wood is definitely a place I would recommend. The staff there are
all really lovely and caring; Mum is happy, safe and very well looked after. There are activities which (I believe) Mum frequently joins in with; Mum has advanced dementia so doesn’t remember what she does each day, bless her. Any queries I have (which are few) are replied to very promptly, especially early on when I wasn’t sure how some things worked e.g. paying for hairdresser etc. Thank you to everyone at Shaws Wood.

So pleased to have found this exceptional home for my mum. It’s a home from home place. So friendly and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble. Always plenty of activities going on and entertainment. I feel happy knowing I’m leaving my mum in capable safe hands.

Current Review Score: 6.5 (6.461)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.5 (6.461) out of 10 for Shaws Wood Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.333 for Shaws Wood Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (10 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 21 Ratings = 3.333

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.128 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shaws Wood Residential Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.8 = 0.128

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
