Our mother adapted surprisingly fast to the British diet, although little choice, we also admired the accessible drinks cabinet and other treats and enjoyed sharing meals with her. She also enjoyed music/singing and dancing activities - we wish these filled every day. Gardens were pleasant, well maintained
and accessible - as was the park and local facilities (nor was the home’s own car park ever crowded). Most impressive was management - the manager is a qualified nurse and we had no concerns about accessing health care, even out of hours and the staff readily listened to any mild concern. Medication was carefully administered and we were consulted if there were doubts. We found what seemed lacking elsewhere - a ‘home’, with dedicated, consistent staff who could be playful and expressed genuine affection for residents. They readily adapted to cultural expectations (my mother was Jewish) with open curiosity and warmth. We couldn’t have been happier with our mother’s home for her last year.

The level of care provided for my mother (who had dementia) at St Andrew's was outstanding. There was much appreciated flexibility, eg. ensuring that she had the food she most enjoyed and welcoming some much-loved items of furniture and objects into her room so that she felt truly 'at home'. There was
immediate and consistent help with all practical and medical issues.

I found the manager to be highly supportive of concerns and questions which inevitably arose during my mother's 18-month stay, always taking these seriously and responding positively. Most significantly, my mother bonded with one particular carer, who became her main carer and with whom there was considerable shared humour and affection. This made all the difference to the end of my mother's life. I cannot thank the team at St Andrew's enough and will never forget the difference they made to this final chapter for both my mother and myself.

St Andrew's cared for my mother with love and dignity. The staff were amazing, kind, approachable and experienced. The manager is lovely, accessible and responded to any questions or medical needs immediately. They provided entertainment, great food and a warm, safe environment; it was like home from
home for my mum. I cannot thank everyone at St Andrew's enough.

My relation is safe and cared for in her care home. She is looked after with respect and a degree of good humour that she enjoys.
I am always made welcome by the staff and appreciate their understanding of the inevitable worries I have about my relative's wellbeing.

My mother has been a resident at St Andrew's for the past 11 months and could not have received better care. The carers always take time with her and she has a great rapport with them. Besides the care given St Andrew's provides very good home cooked food and most days there is entertainment of some
kind. Special occasions are celebrated with family members invited also. St Andrew's provides a warm welcoming caring and safe environment and I cannot fault it. The staff do an excellent job.

I visit the care home three times a week to see my wife and each time I see how caring and attentive the carers are so I leave knowing my loved one is well looked after.
When I am no longer capable of looking after myself I shall go to the same place. My name is on the list.

The staff at St Andrew's are saints. They always have a smile on their faces whatever kind of day they are having.
They know how to throw a party and get everyone joining in.
They bring the true meaning to the title Care and Home.

The people who work at St Andrew's always endeavour to provide a warm, friendly and caring atmosphere for both the residents and their families. We always feel welcome when we arrive and are given updates on how my mother is doing that day and over the past week. The care-workers are attentive and always
have time for us and the other residents and families. There is some kind of entertainment each day and the home-cooked food is great. St Andrew's takes every opportunity to celebrate the resident's anniversaries and birthdays as well as key dates in the year, with cakes, parties and music. A good example was yesterday's Halloween party, which was full of music, food and life, with some care-workers attending with other members of their own families. My mum was able to join in with the singing and even got up to dance a little. It really does feel like a big family.

My brother has been a resident of St Andrews Care Home for approximately 10 months. During that time I have not found any of the staff disrespectful, unhelpful or unpleasant. Quite the opposite; they live up to their job description of carer and I cannot fault any of the staff I have had dealings
with, although I can only comment on the day staff as I have not been in the Home when the night staff take over, but I would expect the same of them.

The Home is clean, the food appears to be good, on most days there is some form of musical entertainment or an activity and visitors (and dogs!) are welcome.

Obviously, I would rather my brother not need to be in a Home but, as he does need to, I believe this to be the best one.

My late father spent the last seven months of his life at St Andrew's. He received the most supportive care imaginable. The staff did everything that anyone could to see that he was always comfortable and that his preferences for food were always well met; for example, shopping especially to ensure
that he had a good supply of smoked haddock and that he was never without carrot cake! His clothes were always beautifully laundered and pressed so that he presented very well to the end.
St Andrew's was excellent at ensuring that my father received not only all necessary medical attention; but things like regular haircuts, foot care etc.
A great comfort to his family as well as him, was that the staff nurtured my father's keeping in touch with family and friends. As he declined, becoming unable to dial phone numbers himself, they would help him to make calls, often several times a day and I shall always be thankful that they did so when he called me the evening before he died.

My neighbour was looked after from November 2017 to April 2018 in St Andrew's care home. She died in April 2018.
Her care was extremely good. Staff very caring and thoughtful.
As a neighbour, I was the only visitor and impressed with the ambience of St Andrew's.

It was the hardest decision and action we had to take to move my dad into a care home. At the first visit, we were welcomed so warmly and had such a good feeling about the home which we hadn't got from any others that we had looked at.
It took my dad some time to settle in, and at times could be very
difficult, yet all the staff took it in their stride and eventually things got better. I remember there was always the sound of music each morning during the week which my dad got great pleasure from.
As his condition deteriorated, his care and attention never did and towards the end of his life, we were kept informed on a daily basis of how he was.
From the day he moved in, to the day he died, even though we as his family couldn't be with him all the time, I never felt that he was alone. The care and attention that he received during his time in the home gave me peace of mind that in the last few years of his life, although he couldn't remain at home, he was in the next best place.

Not many care homes actually feel like a home, but St Andrew's does and this is what marked it out for us when we were looking for residential care for my mother, who is 90 and had previously lived in the family home for 52 years. St Andrew's has the homely feel of a large, extended family home, which
is why the residents feel so comfortable in the lounge and the kitchen which is at its heart. The staff are dedicated, professional, engaging and humane and provide a very good standard of care within a safe, friendly, and quirky environment.

The care my mother has received has been wonderful - the atmosphere is loving and kind and my son and I are always made to feel welcome whatever time of day we visit.
Our wish as a family to have my mother's end of life care at St. Andrews has been entirely respected for which I am hugely grateful.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.467)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.467) out of 10 for St Andrew's is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.967 for St Andrew's is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.967
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Andrew's is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
