My Mum has been in St. Andrew's for 4 years now. All the staff are very friendly and caring, giving the home a family atmosphere. Mum has always loved music and really enjoys the regular live singers and keep fit sessions. We live abroad, but have visited several times and often had lunch together
- the home-cooked meals are superb. Birthdays and other special events are celebrated - we loved the Halloween party, the music, food and decorations were all amazing, and singing and dancing with Mum was very special. Mum's expressed wish was to live in a care home in Headington that has a cat, and St. Andrew's has given her those wishes and more. It's very comforting to know that she is receiving the best possible care in her 'forever home'.

We couldn't have asked for a better home for my aunt when she was no longer able to live safely on her own. All the staff at St Andrew's were so kind to her and to her visiting family and the care she received was amazing. She went on a trip to the pub to watch an sports game, found a new pleasure in
having her nails painted and didn't have to sacrifice her garden view or her Gin & Tonics. As a family we couldn't have asked for more and are only sorry she wasn't with you, and us, for longer. Thank you so very much for helping make a difficult time much easier for her and her family.

My Father has recently passed away aged 95. He had been a resident at St. Andrew's for over 5 years, moving there from his flat after a fall that required a full hip replacement and a dementia diagnosis. The care he received was amazing. The staff are permanent, not agency, so they really get to know
the residents. They are so kind, gentle, and patient. The food is freshly prepared and cooked each day. He always enjoyed his lunch, especially the pudding. The home is small and privately owned, not a big corporation. The owner invests in the home to make it a lovely, welcoming place. For example, during covid they built two garden rooms so that visits could take place (once this was permitted), and they have extended the conservatory which is a lovely, sunny area with a view of the garden. There are lots of activities provided for the residents and birthdays and events are always celebrated. Visitors are made to feel welcome. I would say the greatest strength is the staff, they are super!

The most wonderful place with such care and love. What a joy to visit my mother here and take part in the parties, music and beautiful food. We couldn’t have been happier knowing my mother was in safe, loving hands.

After a fall and a spell in hospital, my father came to St Andrew’s in January 2021. He’d been very confused whilst in hospital, and that was painful to see. Since coming to St Andrew’s, he seems calm and content, and we know that any concerns will be flagged up to us and dealt with appropriately.
Visits
are fun, and I like visiting a busy family home, complete with a cat, a lamb (last time I was there) and, on one occasion, a very new baby, who was brought in to meet the residents. There is a positive feeling of life going on and of flexibility to people’s needs, plus lots of laughter. There are expeditions out and regular entertainment, and my father particularly enjoys the visits from the singer.
I have absolute faith in the manager and carers at St Andrew’s, knowing that my father is safe with them and that he is treated with dignity and kindness. I would, without hesitation, recommend St Andrew's to anyone looking for a caring place for an elderly relative needing a safe haven.

The first time I visited St Andrew’s (Care Home), I sensed an atmosphere of warmth, kindness and good cheer, laced with humour on the part of staff and residents alike. I was soon convinced that this was the right place for my husband as his physical and mental health declined. He settled in surprisingly
quickly and spent four happy months there under the vigilant care of the charismatic manager and her wonderful team of carers.
The home is very relaxed and tailored to the individual needs of residents. There is live music several times a week, parties are held to mark special occasions, and visitors are made to feel very welcome at all times.
I cannot recommend St Andrew’s highly enough. I will miss the friendliness and banter that greeted me on every visit.

My 94-year-old father has been in St Andrew's in Headington for just over 12 months. He went there after ten days in the hospital, having before lived with my mum at home, cared for by her. He is severely handicapped by Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. During his 12 months there, he has been cared for with
considerable kindness, compassion, understanding and a fair dose of good humour. After his initial aggression and awkwardness (dealt with kindly and sensibly), he has settled well and is very much at home there. What is more, my mother, my sister and I are also treated very well. We are welcomed warmly when we visit and are regularly contacted when not able to visit.
We recently celebrated my parents' 70th wedding anniversary at the home - the staff were lovely and did everything they could to make it a special occasion. They are invariably friendly, kind, funny and helpful.
Thank you, St Andrew's; you have made what could have been a very traumatic experience very bearable.

Very comfortable homely care home. Staff are very friendly and welcoming to residents and visitors. The manager is extremely helpful. Entertainment is supplied on a regular basis, which the residents really enjoy. Gardens are well maintained and lovely in the better weather when residents can sit outside.
Great effort is made to celebrate special occasions - Christmas, Easter and The Coronation.

My cousin and her husband lived happily together for a number of years at St Andrew's.
St Andrew's provides an excellent standard of care for each individual resident. The staff are very relaxed, kind and caring, making for a very homely atmosphere. Entertainment and activities are always on offer.
Family and friends are encouraged to join in. Dietary requirements are adhered to, and all meals are home-cooked on the premises. St Andrew's gives one peace of mind in knowing that your loved ones are safe and in good caring hands. I would have no hesitation in recommending this residential care home.
Thank you, St Andrew's.

A truly wonderful care home. My lovely mum spent the last four years of her life at St Andrew's. I feel happy that she had the best possible care and attention I could have hoped for. It is more like a family, with staff who work to professional standards and also bring good humour and joy to the residents.
Having a much-loved parent in a care home during the pandemic could have been horrendous, and it is true, I missed visiting Mum during restrictions, but the manager and Mum's key worker handled a difficult situation extremely well, communication was excellent, and they sent me photos and even video messages from Mum. St Andrew's chef provides extraordinarily good freshly prepared food and caters for all diets. The entertainment for residents is great fun, there is usually a schedule on the wall, and visitors can go along and join in. After Mum passed away peacefully after a short illness at age 96, I missed going to see her at St Andrew's as the lovely staff honestly felt like family.

We chose St Andrew's because of the homely feel it provided; the kitchen table environment, the cosy lamps, the beautifully maintained garden, the pussycat, the home-cooked food, but most of all, the staff who are so warm, friendly and kind and long-standing. They have extremely high standards of cleanliness
and never fail to amaze us with their patience and compassion.

My dad has been at St Andrews for 6 months now and he is happy and settled. I visit most days and the staff are always welcoming and kind. They look after me too. Nothing is too much trouble. I see how they manage all the people they care for and it is a place of love.
They take time and really know
their residents well. They are able to think about what is most important for someone and prioritise so they are happy.
They laugh and enjoy people even when it is hard work. St Andrews is well run and organised but always so that the residents' real needs come first.

I cannot recommend this care home enough. The staff are just wonderful, and we know that our Mum is the happiest she could be, given the circumstances of advanced dementia. They go above and beyond in their care. I visited with my Dad recently, who is fairly frail, and when we realised he was not going
to make it walking around the park as we'd planned, one of the carers brought a wheelchair over from the home, saving our afternoon. Mum's key worker is incredible, and we have built up a close relationship over the time Mum's been there. She laughs a lot with Mum, and nothing is ever too much. We know we can contact the home any time to arrange visits or just to get an update on how Mum's doing. The manager, like Mum's key worker, has been beyond kind and generous with her time and help. We'd never planned on having Mum in a home, we'd hoped to be able to care for her ourselves, but that wasn't possible. We feel so lucky to have found St Andrews and take comfort in knowing she is safe.

I really don’t know where to begin. We have been overwhelmed with the care, respect and love our mum has received at St Andrew’s. Mum has advanced Alzheimer's, and her condition deteriorated considerably over lockdown. We urgently needed to find somewhere for Mum to live and were incredibly concerned
about her future. We needn’t have been. From the first moment we spoke to the manager on the phone, we knew Mum would be in safe and caring hands. Everything they do for Mum is done with love and compassion. They keep us well informed (every phone call is picked up or returned quickly) and send regular photos showing how settled and happy Mum is in her new home. It is no exaggeration to say she has been transformed. Nothing is too much trouble, and we visit often. As a family, we have been incredibly moved by the whole experience, especially during the pandemic, when the situation was handled superbly. We don’t think it an exaggeration to say this is an exemplary care home with angels at the helm.

My mother spent the last few months of her life at St Andrews, where she was cared for with great kindness and professionalism. The staff went out of their way to accommodate family visits, keep us informed about her health, send us pictures of the activities she was involved in, and even provided cake
and sherry for her and visitors on her birthday. The grounds are very pleasant and, apart from during the total lockdown period, we were able to visit the garden or one of the chalets.

During this terrible pandemic, St Andrew's welcomed my mother with an open heart, and are treating her as part of their family. The staff, especially the manager, have gone out of their way to ensure I can see Mum safely, and within government guidelines. This has been very gratefully received. They
have even built two extra external placed to ensure visits are positive. Amazing, thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.467)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.467) out of 10 for St Andrew's is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.967 for St Andrew's is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.967
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Andrew's is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
