My mother died on Saturday 21st September.
The care she was given during the twelve days she was slipping away was amazing. The staff were so lovely and they also cared for us.
My mother was in the Henry Cornish for over four years. Although she would have wished to be in her own home, she acknowledged
that she was safe.
Grateful thanks from her family.

My father spent the last 4 months of his life here. The care, kindness and support he (and I as a family member) received was amazing! The management and all the staff were always on hand for anything he needed and to answer any concerns. They were quick to notice and respond on a number of occasions
when my father's health declined. Everyone at Henry Cornish became like family and they made my father's last few months the best they could have been. I am indebted to them for everything they did for my father.

Issues discussed with management over the past year regarding care/staff attitude were not resolved satisfactorily eg., hearing aid must be cleaned twice daily to prevent recurring ear infection (we provide alcohol wipes). This is not done.
Carers often seen sitting in lounge watching TV - eg., last
week the two carers were sitting watching Ascot. Could their time not be better utilised interacting with room-bound residents?
Have had to ask for bin to be emptied; floor under Mother's feet to be cleaned (being blind she accidentally drops food); over-chair table to be changed/cleaned; sports bottle to be washed out.
Unlike ground floor, first floor often lacks staff; no flowers; rarely are fruit, crisps or biscuits available in lounge for residents. On 24th June 2019, there were no biscuits or cake available for first-floor residents to have with afternoon tea.
On 24th June 2019 a carer very rude to my sister when she asked about Mother's hearing aid being cleaned.
On a positive note, Mother is well fed; her clothes are clean; most carers are friendly and kind when they deal with her.

Everyone was wonderful to me and helped me get better. I can't thank everyone enough.
The only complaint is that many guests said it took at least 10 mins to get in or out of the building but this is due to staff being so busy so not a complaint just an observation.

Very caring and helpful staff who work extremely long hours. Good physio - very encouraging. Rooms could benefit with a coat of paint. A few spring bulbs and some pruning in the garden and surrounds.

Everybody seems so kind, my grandmother is well looked after and loves the lunches (especially the puddings). She can be difficult but everybody is very patient.
Thank you for looking after her.
They even make us a coffee when we visit.

Henry Cornish Care Centre did their utmost to care for my father. All the staff are so kind and caring. While he was here it helped my mum and I cope knowing he was well looked after.
We are extremely grateful for his space here and appreciate all the hard work that goes into this unit. A big thank
you from all the family.

My sister and I were extremely impressed by the standard of care my mother received whilst staying at the centre.
The staff were unfailingly kind and cheerful at all times. Her room was lovely and there was an abundance of food provided throughout the day. As visitors, we were also always made exceedingly
welcome.

I have got to know several care homes where relatives have resided and undertaken drama activities in the past with care home residents including a 'reminiscence theatre' project. Henry Cornish Care Centre is one of the best I have visited. Staff are helpful to a visitor and give attention and friendly
care to residents. The environment is very good - residents rooms, the general decor and furnishing, social spaces and the excellent, attractive garden area with flowers, shrubs, tables and chairs, gazebo and sunshine and also safe and secure. The residence is clean and particularly attractive in its layout. There are good activities e.g., painting, word games, music etc. Residents work is often displayed and it looks good. The dining arrangements - at round tables which make for friendly contact - are well staff and in a friendly atmosphere, although the food can be a little ordinary and unexciting (with the exception of excellent tea time cakes).
Drawbacks and lacks are down to staff shortage - sometimes because of sick leave or holiday.

We have nothing to compare with, but we have been very satisfied with the care my father has received over the period since June that he has been a resident at Henry Cornish House, although during this time, he has had a fall and spent two weeks in hospital. Since then he has had another fall when
back in HCH – the manager was very good at explaining the situation and implications.

Members of the management team are caring about his situation, they are patient and give my father confidence. Their dealings with us are good - they have kept us informed and made our enquiries welcome.

We are aware that there are activities on offer, although my father doesn’t choose to be involved. He is encouraged to be as mobile as possible and be sociable for meals. We can't confidently comment on the food question.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.574)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.574) out of 10 for Henry Cornish Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.574 for Henry Cornish Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (257 Excellents x 5) + (128 Goods x 4) + (18 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 406 Ratings = 4.574
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Henry Cornish Care Centre is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
