My dear wife is over 90 years old, suffers from advanced 'Alzheimer's' dementia, is unable to do anything for herself or communicate.. She was entered to St. John's Care Home on 31st. October 2023. Both our daughter and I visit her on an almost daily basis, so we are very well acquainted with the home
and its staff. On our visits we note that she is comfortable, Settled and never complains. She could not be in a better place. When we visit we play her music to which she responds: nice songs sung by good.
singers from yesteryear. Two things I note that are not in your boxes:-the grounds are extensive & lovely, and there is No smell inside the home.

She was welcomed into the community for the last few months of her life. Staff were helpful, caring and friendly and always happy to talk with us. The grounds were particularly important, enabling frequent trips into pleasant surroundings on the doorstep. We were very pleased to find a safe and reassuring
place for my mother close to our home.

My uncle has been with St John's since August 2021.
The first few weeks were difficult for him from having such a big change in his life, but very soon became settled with the help of the lovely staff.
My visits (mostly at short notice) are welcomed by friendly office staff. I am taken through
the gorgeous building to find my uncle. The residents, cleaners, and carers that we pass on the way all speak and acknowledge you.
My uncle is always clean and tidy (which I know has been prompted by the carers), and his room is always spotlessly clean.
The home and gardens are quite something!

My mother-in-law was a resident at St John's for over 8 years and celebrated her 100th birthday in this home. I am sure without their diligent care she was unlikely to have achieved that milestone. She had advanced dementia, but the care and attention provided were exemplary. One thing she loved was
her food, and the quality of the meals provided are excellent.
The staff are very thoughtful and caring and always keep us up to date and advised of any care issues and general health updates. Sadly she passed away in July, but having been in hospital, St John's ensured she was brought back to the environment she was used to for her final hours.
Beautiful home, surroundings and wonderful, caring staff.

My mother was a resident at St. John's Home for 17 years and died there at the age of 98 on 22 July 2022. She received excellent care throughout, and as she became more infirm I was regularly given updates by the staff as to how she was. The staff were very kind and efficient in dealing with matters
after her death, assisting with formalities.
While she was able, my mother enjoyed the various activities organised by the staff. She had a lovely room.

My dad has been in St John's since last September. He seems very settled and happy under the circumstances. He has a good relationship with the staff, who do a great job. My dad loves sitting in the lovely garden, and they're very good at letting me take him out every week.

My grandmother has been a resident at St John's for 8-years now. With advanced stage dementia, it was fairly traumatic having to move her from a previous home that was closing down. Pre-Covid, I and my family were regular visitors. St John's has always been great at communicating with us as a family
when we haven't been able to visit.
We've managed to enjoy some visits since restrictions have been lifted, but do miss the spontaneity. This is by no means a criticism of the home though, as they have done an outstanding job of keeping all residents and staff safe over a really tricky time.
The home itself is beautifully maintained, and I was delighted to see my grandma's room had had a complete makeover recently! Very much looking forward to taking my children and enjoying the beautiful gardens for visits in the summer again.

Happy with the care my husband is receiving, and when the family visits, the staff seem excellent. The only negatives are Covid related; we understand that this has been a massive challenge, and in general, the staff have coped well, just slightly problematic when key people are away.

In the three and a half years my relative was a resident in the home, we have been very happy with the care that she has received. There were times when they were understaffed, but St John's have addressed this. The standard of care was generally excellent and it was a well-run establishment where my
Aunt was very happy and settled. I would recommend St John's to anyone.

When looking for a home for my mother, we were very worried about finding the right one. We found St John's and we could not have been happier. Son my mother was putting on weight and socializing with the others. She was very happy at St Johns. Sadly my mum reached the end of her life but St John's
received her back from hospital and gave my mum dignity and respect. They met her needs throughout her journey, ensuring her transition into the next world was a peaceful and a happy one. They treated my bothers and myself with kindness and respect.

I was a close friend of a lady who lived at St John's for two years until she passed away in June 2018. St John's is truly an amazing place. The building and grounds are beautiful - a totally unexpected oasis in an Oxford residential area - but it's the staff that made the place stand out compared to
other homes I've known. The care and love they had for my friend (who could be difficult sometimes!) was far beyond what I could have dreamed of. There is something about this place, the staff seem to really enjoy their work. I have nothing but praise for both the management and the carers alike.

So far as I can tell, the care at St John's is exemplary. The general atmosphere is relatively informal and friendly, management is low-key but effective, while the care itself is positive and respectful. Staff in every department work purposefully yet never seem too busy to attend to matters as they
arise. I particularly commend the senior staff who manage the immediate health and welfare of residents: one couldn't ask for more skill or dedication, undertaken with such cheerful willingness. Staff are always around so that residents' needs are usually met promptly, and there is a pro-active timetable of regular, individual room visits as well as communal activities and celebrations. The home is very convenient for public transport etc., while the building and garden provide a beautiful context for living here. However, the lack of en-suite facilities is, no doubt, a disadvantage that would put off some potential residents. The food is rather ordinary on the whole.

The home is immaculate and the staff are so helpful, caring and kind. My sister loves it there and looks better than I have seen her look in years. The home keeps me well informed of any events etc even though I live in Yorkshire. It is a fabulous home.

I've been volunteering at St John's for about five months and it's made a really good impression on me.
I spend a lot of time talking to the residents and they seem really happy with the quality of care, entertainment (films, quizzes, bingo)food etc.
I think the most important thing is that the residents
feel comfortable and happy and everyone at St John's is really trying to achieve this.
Because of this I have really loved my time volunteering and getting to know the lovely and interesting people at St John's.

Current Review Score: 7.8 (7.846)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.8 (7.846) out of 10 for St John's Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.458 for St John's Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.458
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.388 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St John's Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.263
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
