The friendliness, professionalism and care shown by all the staff is incredible. The change we have seen in my father-in-law is really positive. He is content and feels safe in a way he was never able to at home.

We have been so lucky to find Appleby House. We could no longer meet dad's needs by caring for him in his own home and we all feel a huge weight has been lifted from us since he became a resident. All the staff are so kind and considerate - always cheerful and smiling. The dread we felt when visiting him in his own home - never knowing what we would find and then not being able to leave him at all, has gone. We can now visit with the knowledge he is safe and well cared for. I can't thank you enough for that.

My Mum (95) has been here for 6 months. She came straight from hospital after a fall. From the moment she arrived I knew she was in the right place as she was showered with so much care and attention.
Her life has been so much fuller at Appleby House, singing in the choir, gardening, interacting with local school children, painting, playing board games and exercise classes. She was given the opportunity of writing to the Queen to congratulate her on her Jubilee and is very proud of the thank you letter received back from her Lady in Waiting. The effort put in by the staff at Appleby House for a fabulous Jubilee Party was immense and was a really unifying event. The icing on the cake was a ‘Dreams come True’ trip to Wimbledon in June which came from staff talking and listening to Mum and finding out about her love of tennis.

Team Appleby inspire confidence and since Mum entered their door I started sleeping soundly at night once again knowing that she was in such capable hands.

Appleby House care home is an amazing place. Because I had Covid 19 I couldn't visit in person before moving my Mum and Step Dad here in April 2022. I had read all the reviews and placed my trust in these, hoping that they were true and I am delighted to say that they were. Both my Mum and Step Dad are thriving here. They have so many new friends and so much to do to occupy their time, they even have their own garden area where they are growing fruit and vegetables. The communication from all the team, particularly the manager, is fantastic. When I visit each week I am greeted with smiles and updates. It is a very clean, safe, and secure environment. I can see that their physical needs are taken care of but also their mental well-being. All the staff are so caring and show a genuine interest in who my Mum and Step Dad are now and who they were when they were younger, and that makes them happy. I have zero worries or concerns as I know that they are in safe hands at Appleby.

I have witnessed nothing but kindness and professionalism to my mother over the last five months of her being in Appleby House Care Home.
The home is clean, safe and has regular staff who are all very friendly and deliver a high standard of care and excellent at reassuring Mum and making her feel safe and secure.

The food is good and she looks forward to her meals.

My mother is in this care home now due to the early stages of dementia and the frailty and weakness of a 92-year-old, my brothers and I have been very pleased with the care she has been given by the staff. She had previously spent extended periods in hospital and when visiting her there it was always a trauma for her when we were leaving her at the end of the visit. Since she has been at Appleby this hasn't happened. She became settled, very quickly. For anyone that is unable to visit (for whatever reason), they will arrange video conversations which is an excellent idea. They have also printed pictures of family that my wife and one of my brothers have emailed to them, after printing, they put them in an album (which I believe the home have supplied). Staff have had a very flexible approach to mealtimes and although they prefer visitors to avoid these times, they will accommodate by bringing her meal to her room where visits currently take place. She always appears clean and tidy.

My mother-in-law has been at Appleby Care Home for about three months now. She appears to have settled in well and her room is nice and comfortable. The care staff are always welcoming and friendly, and if we ask questions or enquire about any aspect of my mother-in-law's health, they take the time to check and reply. Every time we've visited my mother-in-law is always in the main room, where she is mixing with others. She is clean and her hair is tied up and her nails are trim. The most important thing from our point of view is that my mother-in-law is not stressed by our departure each time and whilst we are there, she laughs a lot with us. These are good indications that she's relaxed and safe. As we live so far away, it's been lovely that the staff member has printed out photos that I've sent her, to put into an album for my mother-in-law. A lovely atmosphere and bright, clean, and well-presented home with dedicated staff. Thank you to the whole team! Happy Christmas.

Since Mum has joined Appleby she has settled so well, better than we could ever have hoped for! It was so difficult for us as a family to make the decision. The staff are so kind and supportive with her care and with us as her family. They understand her needs so well. The service is outstanding.

If you are looking for a care home that truly cares and loves your family, I would hand on heart say look no further. My Grandma started by just going to the day centre and as time has gone on she needed more care so she now lives in. I know it’s a really emotional time finding the right place for your loved ones as you're trusting someone else to love and look after them as you do, and trust me I have high expectations so this wasn’t easy. If I’m really honest I judged Appleby House like a book cover as there are many other fancy care homes and I didn’t think Appleby House was one. But I was so wrong to judge in this way because they are so much more, and it’s very rare to find such a loving, fun, home-from-home, loving environment. All the staff are so kind, loving, and caring to the residents. I love how they know each resident inside out from their favourite meals, activities, to their funny ways. I didn’t think it was possible for me to trust anyone to look after my grandma but I have.

My husband went into Appleby House in June this year, and he is very happy
and contented. All the staff are absolutely brilliant, they are caring, kind, respectful, and

treat all residents with dignity. Also, keep the families well informed as to how their loved ones are doing. It's a hard decision to make when your loved ones go into care, but we certainly made the right choice by choosing Appleby House, my husband is safe, well, and happy.

There's always a warm welcome from the staff, who are also keen to assist with any queries. All the residents appear well cared for and the staff genuinely caring and conscientious in their duties. The premises are well maintained and clean. Personal items like pictures can be displayed in residents' rooms, helping to make them feel more at home.

Our beloved mother suffered a traumatic experience at another care home, resulting in her hospitalisation for over a month for an injury of a broken hip. The family's confidence, trust, and faith had been shattered, doubting if we could ever find a home of care. Eventually, we found Appleby House and its outstanding team, who understood that although our mother has dementia, she is still very human and is to be treated with dignity and respect. The compassion, professionalism, collaboration with the Appleby House management team, especially the Deputy Manager and Home Manager have enabled the family to rebuild trust that there are homes of care. Our mother is thriving at Appleby House, thanks to the outstanding team in the 'Da Vinci' suite who always exude positivity, friendliness, and teamwork, and who know and understand our mother. We cannot thank Appleby House enough for their outstanding care and we celebrate being part of the Appleby House family.

Making the decision to get Mum into residential care during the Covid 19 pandemic was one of the hardest experiences I’ve had. The Deputy Manager at Appleby House however was so supportive, understanding, patient(!) and professional, that the process was straightforward and had a very positive outcome.
Over 2 months in, Mum is settled and well cared for. She is dressed beautifully, washed with hair styled. Her room is light, airy, and clean. Every time I call the staff are all up to date with Mum’s current state and achievements. My call is always answered promptly and booking appointments to visit in line with Covid restrictions is very efficient.

The facilities at Appleby House are exceptional. The Art Room provides my Mum with a chance to create pictures, something she has not done in years. I’m so looking forward to the safe easing of restrictions and being able to take my children to visit Mum. They’re busting to see her, the residential cat, and guinea pigs!

Professional and caring staff who pay personal attention to each resident. I was highly impressed by the number, variety and frequency of activities with the residents to keep them entertained and stimulated. Incredible staff, nothing appears to be too much trouble for them in ensuring the wellbeing and happiness of the people whom they care. I also appreciate that family members and visitors are made to feel so welcome and at home (and not like intruders when visiting)

Meet the Team (1)

Shona Bradbury
Shona BradburyJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2014

I haven’t been at Appleby House long – I joined as home manager in early 2014 – but I’m completely committed to meeting the challenge of making this home the care home of choice for people in the Epsom area. I want us to have full occupancy and a waiting list!

As home manager I’m passionate about providing the best possible care to residents to enhance their lives. I love involving residents and my team in how things are run. I believe my role is to lead by example to create a good culture at Appleby House. That can come down to things like how I speak to people, being smiling and positive and being a good team player. It’s my job to motivate staff and promote their development through training and supervision. I thrive on working with my team to bring about change – stretching them and seeing positive change happen.

I have to say that the best part of the day for me is walking around the home talking to residents and staff. We always have a good laugh and it’s the time when I get the inspiration to make any changes that are needed. But what I don’t need to change at Appleby House is the terrific atmosphere: it’s really friendly and welcoming, and new people visiting us are always really struck by that. We also offer a huge range of quality care services – particularly around dementia care – and this sets us apart from our competitors too.

I’ve lots of plans for Appleby House over the coming months, including increasing the social activities for residents, improving the dining experience for them and sprucing up the home. There’s lots to do but I’ve a great team, so I’m confident we can make it happen.
