Every time I go to visit our elderly friend at Cossins House, it’s always felt very homely. Staff are always very friendly, always saying hello and how am I doing? That’s a great feeling though. Never forget to ask me, if I wanted to have any drinks.

Very friendly and caring, lovely atmosphere and great grounds and gardens.
The building is not best suited to a care home due to the different levels on the first floor but, having said that, it does give the more mobile clients a bit of exercise.
The top rooms do seem to get rather hot in the summer.
But
all in all, it's a lovely place for the clients to live.

All the staff are very friendly. The care and attention given to my friend is excellent. In fact, from what I have experienced, the same level of care is given to everyone, with great respect and love for the individual.

I've been coming here to visit my Gran since I was about 5 years old and I can say with confidence that the staff at Cossins House have done everything in their power to make sure Gran was as happy and comfortable as she could be. And when times were hard they were here for me and the rest of the family
as well. I'm extremely grateful to Cossins House and the wonderful, kind staff who work there. Thank you.

My mother has been cared for by all the staff in Cossins House since April 2017.
We feel so fortunate to have found Cossins House as the care is phenomenal.
My mother has complex needs and nothing is too much trouble in order for her to be comfortable.
We have always been made to feel welcome and
nurtured by everyone and can't thank them enough.

My mother lived the last three and a half years in Cossins House Care Home: Cossins has a cosy 'home from home' feel to it and benefits from being small and intimate, where both residents and their relatives can build a warm and trusting relationship with its staff, many of whom have worked there for
many years. All staff aim to make the later years of the resident's lives stressfree, safe and warm and comfortable. We were so lucky to find it.

My father is very well cared for by the lovely team of carers and staff at Cossins. It is very reassuring to know that dad is looked after so well. I have never come across such "caring" staff before and it is a big relief to know Dad is in safe hands.
Thank you.

Staff at Cossins are amazing. The majority of them have been there for many years and are clearly committed to providing excellent care. The home is quiet and peaceful, set in wonderful grounds with resident ducks and chickens! It is good to know that my dad is in safe hands and is so well looked after.
The staff go out of their way to help and have a real understanding of my father's needs, which is very reassuring.

My aunt has been at Cossins House now for 4 years and has been very well cared for. In the past 6 months, hse has deteriorated both mentally and physically. The care and support both she and us have received have been excellent. The staff have tried very hard to see she can still participate in the
life of the home and she continues to enjoy a good quality of life.

Overall I am very happy with the care given to my father at Cossins House Care Home. The accommodation is excellent (a self-contained cottage), except there have been many problems with the bathroom whose design is faulty. The current management team is excellent as are the carers except, that some
do not speak/understand English very well. Cleanliness not always up to scratch but I am not unduly concerned about this. Security difficult for staff as the cottage is not in the main house. Communication greatly improved recently.
Reply from Alison Geddes, Marketing at Barchester Cossins House Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review our home, we are delighted to hear how happy you are with your Father’s care here at Cossins House and that you find our management team ‘excellent.’ The contractor fault in the bathroom is being reviewed further following your feedback, as is cleanliness. The cottage itself is highly safe and secure, only a few steps away from the main home. As your Father uses the back door to access the main home there may be occasions when deliveries are being taken at the same time. We are in the process of making adjustments to allow easier access for wheelchairs through this door, such as altering the photocopier and units to give more space and moving the fire extinguishers to the side so wheelchairs won’t bump into them. Feel free to pop in for a chat with our Home Manager on your next visit if there's anything you'd like to discuss further.

There is a wonderful feeling of being "at home" rather than in"a home" at Cossins.
The house and grounds are beautiful and the atmosphere a really caring and happy one.
Some niggles from mum about the food sometimes but she couldn't be in a better place in terms of the overall care and the environment.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.895)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.895) out of 10 for Barchester Cossins House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.970 for Barchester Cossins House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (197 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.97
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Cossins House Care Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
