Our mum came to Elmcroft Nursing Home on 11th February for respite care after suffering a fall. Like many families, we were naturally anxious, but we couldn't have asked for a better place.

From day one, every member of staff treated Mum with kindness, dignity and respect. The nursing and care teams were exceptional, showing compassion, patience and professionalism every day. They took the time to get to know her, always making her feel valued and safe.

The management and administrative team were equally supportive, always friendly, approachable and helpful with the many arrangements and paperwork involved. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

Knowing Mum was so well cared for gave our family real peace of mind during a difficult time. We are sincerely grateful to everyone at Elmcroft for their care, kindness and dedication. We would wholeheartedly recommend Elmcroft to anyone looking for a caring and professional nursing home.

The food has been the downfall of this home. Bland, tasteless, repetitive and uninteresting, however, a new chef has been appointed and improvements are taking place. Rooms very basic and need redecorating. Staff are excellent and always ready to deal with any concerns you might have.

Reply from Tiny Myeni, Home Manager at New Elmcroft

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the food and room decor haven't met your expectations, but we're glad to hear improvements are underway with the new chef. The home feels light, bright and welcoming. All the staff are very friendly and generally speaking, the care my husband is receiving is excellent food is disappointing, particularly since my husband has been on a soft diet. More imagination is needed! Overall, I feel part of a new family and am happy with my husband's care.

Stepping through the doors of New Elmcroft opens an environment of happiness, light, care and love. Always have members of staff available to talk to, who obviously know your residents really well and have their best interest at heart. Without fail, everyone is keen to help and happy to do so. The New Elmcroft has been such a wonderful, very caring, and homely place for my Mum, for the last 5 years. She has excellent care and the staff go above and beyond their duties. Mum is always so happy and contented and they care for her with utmost respect and kindness. All the staff from the nursing, care staff, and housekeeping staff, through to the admin staff are so helpful, supportive, and caring, taking time to make Mum feel completely "at home" within the home.
There are always lots of different activities that we as relatives are always informed of via regular emails and updates of all that is going on and happening for the residents over the different, days and weeks in the month. The Activities coordinator's are so enthusiastic and helpful and enjoy engaging and encouraging the residents in participating with the many different activities that are always going on.

Mum always looks so very well cared for, and is so very happy, thank you all for your hard work and dedication

My mother is very well cared for at Elmcroft All staff are very friendly caring and make every resident feel special. They work very hard to create a safe and happy environment for all residents. There's always lots of activities for the residents to do with many different musicians attending throughout each month. Residents are always clean and tidy and Elmcroft always smells fresh. Thankyou to all the staff for making my mothers stay a very happy one.

My friend moved to New Elmcroft recently. The staff have made him (and us) so welcome. Nothing has been too much to help him settle and get his room feeling like home. They have also been very welcoming of us visiting and feeling we are still very much part of his life. It's very hard making the decision to move someone onto the next part of their dementia journey, however, Elmcroft has made this transition so much easier. I go home after a visit not worried and I know he is ok - priceless!

Activities staff are amazing and do the best they can. Some staff in particular spend most time on their music players and not keeping an eye on the residents. However, I find communicating/communication lacking. Cleaners do their best, but rooms are still smelly. It would be nice to have certain staff emails relating to different departments available and knowledge of who to actually contact. Sundays are very distressing to see residents left alone.

My ninety-one year old mother stayed at New Elmcroft for three weeks respite care. I visited her daily and she appeared to have settled in well. She was joining the other residents for meals, which was good to see. The staff were all patient and understanding of her needs and my mother was reassured by this.

Estelle RametJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2008

Hello and welcome to Elmcroft! My name is Estelle and I am the deputy manager here. I started working in healthcare whilst completing my Psychology master’s degree at Sussex University back in 1995. At that time I was a support worker in a residential dementia unit. My passion for assisting people living with dementia grew from there. Over time I progressed to team Leader, and then resource manager within Brighton and Hove Council. In 2008, before Elmcroft was even opened, I successfully interviewed for a team leader role. I was one of the very first recruits and I have worked in Elmcroft since day one and what a brilliant journey it has been! I worked as a team leader until 2015 when I became the deputy manager.

I derive such joy from making each day special for the people under my care. I love that each day is different and brings new exciting opportunities. The prospect of meeting new people, and getting to know them makes every day special. I have enjoyed supporting staff growth and development. I am passionate about training and feel privileged as I am the named dementia trainer in Elmcroft. My background in psychology enables me to support families faced with the difficult decision of leaving their loved ones in a care home. It is also beneficial to staff in my capacity as a mental health first aider in Elmcroft.

My job is very varied dealing with many aspects regarding staff, residents and relatives as well as outside professionals.

I am always happy to help with anything that I can, taking part in many events over the years, all hopefully to help maintain a happy and healthy environment, especially for our residents.
