My experience as a daughter who took my mum for respite was so bad. It was the first time I used this place and it will be the last time, no one took responsibility for anything. One week before the day my mum was due to start, a lady came to our home and spent an hour and a half asking for lots of information about her routine, it sounds promising however after one week when we went there her care plan was not ready yet and things went from bad to worse. Only 2 of the staff were kind and helpful and that is it.

My friend is at this address. I was impressed with the overall look of it; bright, clean and homely. The staff all seem handy and helpful. The person I came to see is very happy with this address.

My sister moved into New Elmcroft from Pulborough. She so wanted to be back in the area she has always lived and close to family. The welcome she got was wonderful, everyone couldn't have been more helpful and caring. She phoned me in the evening to say how happy and lucky to be in such a lovely home. We are all so happy for her and we can also visit much more often as it's so close to us all. Keep up the fantastic job you all do.

Wonderful staff, excellent manner and kindly nature. Fees are huge but I understand if all the care and extras are necessary for this level of care. Staff are wonderful and should be fully supported by regional management with any additional needs and benefits.

We found the staff approachable and friendly. The home is bright and airy. Nothing seemed too much trouble. My mum enjoyed the entertainment and was always cheerful.

I would recommend this care home.

The state of the room provided was terrible. The furniture should be taken to the local tip. The bedding provided was disgusting (took photos). The duvet was completely covered in brown stains and should have been binned.

The worst aspect was the manager who was so aloof and in total denial regarding the problems.

My first visit to see a friend who recently moved in. Very impressed so far.
My friend was in bed where she had chosen to spend the morning. She told me she would get up after lunch.
I spoke to a staff member on my way out who volunteered information and told me my friend would be getting up later.

Wonderful to see joined-up thinking and planned action as it can be extremely absent in lots of care homes.

I find the house quiet, warm and friendly like a friendly hotel. I can come and go as I please. The staff are nice, friendly and helpful. The gardens are neat and pleasant. Food is good and varied. In view of my circumstances a pleasant place to be.

Review from Anthony H (Son of Resident) published on 1 February 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother was cared for at New Elmcroft in the last few months of her life. She was a nursing sister during her working life and was very familiar with recognising high standards of care. During the last months of her life, she regularly expressed that the care she was receiving at New Elmcroft was wonderful. Mum was bed-bound in the last weeks of her life and required frequent attention. Every member of staff went the extra mile to make her feel comfortable and to help my elderly father during his regular visits.

In the early part of her stay when visiting was restricted one member of staff would facetime on her personal mobile to enable my mother and father to have contact. The staff regularly kept me updated by phone in the last weeks of her life and were flexible with my visits. One key observation is that the staff at New Elmcroft always seemed happy to be part of a team - great credit to the manager who is clearly a good leader and was always sympathetic to our needs as a family.

Elmcroft has been wonderful looking after my father.
After witnessing their great service with my late father-in-law it was much easier putting my father into Elmcroft knowing the standard of care he would receive.

They have not let us down.

Review from D C (Cousin of Resident) published on 11 October 2021 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My cousin was transferred to New Elmcroft from another care home on the 2nd of August 2021. When she arrived, she was quite frail and poorly and after a few days at New Elmcroft became worse and didn't eat or drink even though the wonderful staff encouraged her. She then went downhill rapidly and died on the 19th of August 2021. The staff were so good to her and she was always kept clean and dry, etc. Relatives were kept informed daily of her treatment and were wonderful to us as well.

Came to a Garden Party which had to be held indoors as the weather was terrible. It was nicely arranged, our table was reserved for us. Entertainment was great and the staff so friendly and mixed with us all, they made it a very enjoyable and memorable afternoon for residents, family and friends. Well done.

I came to Elmcroft after a hospital stay. Carers are largely young; their care was second to none. They would always go the extra mile. I have nothing but praise for them. They combined care with compassion - it was never just a job!

It was our aunt's 100th Birthday today and the staff at New Elmcroft went above and beyond with making the day special for her. Due to covid restrictions, celebrations were limited, however, Elmcroft staff still organised a fantastic celebration for her. An entertainer in the garden, cake, singing and went above and beyond to accommodate our gifts, balloons, cards and even a card from the Queen. They decorated her room lovely and everything was just perfect.
We would like to thank the manager one member of staff, in particular, as they were fantastic at communicating with us prior to the day and accommodated everything we asked. It was lovely also as the chairman of Shaw Trust Skyped our aunt as due to covid restrictions he couldn’t personally visit.

On a day to day basis, the manager and the team have been great and are always so caring and professional. Thank you for making the day special for her during these strange times.

Estelle Ramet
Estelle RametJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2008

Hello and welcome to Elmcroft! My name is Estelle and I am the deputy manager here. I started working in healthcare whilst completing my Psychology master’s degree at Sussex University back in 1995. At that time I was a support worker in a residential dementia unit. My passion for assisting people living with dementia grew from there. Over time I progressed to team Leader, and then resource manager within Brighton and Hove Council. In 2008, before Elmcroft was even opened, I successfully interviewed for a team leader role. I was one of the very first recruits and I have worked in Elmcroft since day one and what a brilliant journey it has been! I worked as a team leader until 2015 when I became the deputy manager.

I derive such joy from making each day special for the people under my care. I love that each day is different and brings new exciting opportunities. The prospect of meeting new people, and getting to know them makes every day special. I have enjoyed supporting staff growth and development. I am passionate about training and feel privileged as I am the named dementia trainer in Elmcroft. My background in psychology enables me to support families faced with the difficult decision of leaving their loved ones in a care home. It is also beneficial to staff in my capacity as a mental health first aider in Elmcroft.

I joined Elmcroft in 2002 as a support worker. I moved to New Elmcroft once the new build was completed, 16 years ago this year. In 2010 I became one of the service administrators.

My job is very varied dealing with many aspects regarding staff, residents and relatives as well as outside professionals.

I am always happy to help with anything that I can, taking part in many events over the years, all hopefully to help maintain a happy and healthy environment, especially for our residents.
