Glebe House is a 40 bedded home located in the scenic village of Southbourne in West Sussex. It’s location couldn’t be more perfect with a number of shops nearby and great transport links. Glebe is an integral part of the local community and is well known and respected. The home has a large staff team of all ages with a wealth of experience, there are a number of long serving local staff working within the home.

Glebe House offers thirty beds to the elderly and frail who can no longer live independently at home and ten beds to those who have been in hospital and need to rebuild their confidence before returning to live in their home again.

The home offers a calm and caring ambiance and the team always ensure that each and every resident feels at home.

The home's chefs provide daily home cooked meals for residents to enjoy in communal dining areas or in the comfort of their own room. Hot and cold drinks are provided throughout the day to ensure that residents are always well-hydrated. The beautiful gardens wrap fully around the home which ensures that each window has a garden view.

Activities and social interactions play a large part of life here at Glebe, each day they offer a range of activities such as singers, entertainers, crafts and games just to name a few and friendships are always encouraged. The home has many wonderful community links such as local schools, churches and social groups.

Glebe House is a wonderful place to call home and an amazing place to work.

Absolutely amazing communication and help organising a move from Essex. Lovely staff on the day she arrived. Nothing was too much trouble. The care and attention in the first hour was better than the care recieved in hospital for over 3 weeks! Jonny and Jenna were so kind and caring. We are so happy.

Just returned from another respite break at Glebe House and have to say how pleased I was to see familiar faces and feel so welcomed on arrival. Myself and my assistance dog had a perfect room with easy access into the garden for him to have a run around.
As usual I presented some challenges which
were always handled in a caring and professional manner and my needs were fully met.
I had an appointment at my own GP and as my wheelchair was playing up a little, I discussed my concerns with a staff member and it was suggested I take an escort to ensure I arrived in good time and would be reassured that if I had any issues I would not be left in difficulty.
I try to keep my wheels clean but with the weather this time it was quite often damp when I went out, I thank the housekeeping staff for keeping everywhere so clean with the additional work I caused them. I think the Sunday roast chicken was exceptional with superb roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. Thank you all it was a pleasure.
Reply from Joanne Holman, Home Manager at Glebe HouseThank you so much for sharing your lovely feedback. We're delighted you felt so welcome and well supported during your respite stay, and that both you and your assistance dog were comfortable and able to enjoy the space. Your kind words about our team, housekeeping, and even the Sunday roast mean a great deal to us. It was a pleasure to have you with us, and we look forward to welcoming you back again.

My Mother lived in Glebe House for 3.5 years until her recent passing. She had a lovely south-facing ground floor room with a patio door and a beautiful view of part of the informal garden. She moved in after a hospital stay and thrived on the thoughtful and attentive care and nourishing food. She inevitably
became more frail, but was always comfortable and content, and enjoyed her meals. All the staff looked after her with both love and professionalism, responding to her needs promptly, respectfully and effectively. Everyone was always on the lookout, though this wasn't made obvious. The staff care for family members as much as for residents, and there is a cheerful family atmosphere. The activities are interesting and varied. Glebe House is a well-planned building, with well-maintained facilities, and good staffing levels. The laundry service is outstanding. Glebe is not outwardly showy, but it provides the important intangibles: safety, reliability and love. Thoroughly recommended.
Reply from Joanne Holman, Home Manager at Glebe HouseThank you so much for sharing your kind and thoughtful words. We are so pleased to hear that your mother felt comfortable, content, and well cared for during her time at Glebe House. It means a great deal to know that our team's attentiveness, care, and the family atmosphere were appreciated. Your reflections truly capture the heart of what we aim to provide for all our residents, and we are very grateful for your recommendation.

I cannot praise the staff at Glebe House enough. My older brother was admitted due to some serious medical issues impacting his mobility, he also has some learning difficulties and the staff have all been exceptionally kind caring and professional. They have communicated brilliantly and have adapted
around his needs so well. The actual building and grounds are lovely too. I cannot recommend Glebe highly enough, I've worked in the nhs for 25 years and know good care when I see it. Thank you Glebe

My aunt has been in Glebe House since August 2024 and has received the best care. Whenever we visit she tells us she us happy, enjoys the food, the staff are kind and she feels comfortable. As we don't live near to her, it is a comfort to us to know she is happy and cared for. The home is clean and
provides entertainment for the residents, there is a lovely garden which my aunt's room looks out to and when weather allows they can go outside and sit and chat with a cup of tea.
Reply from Joanne Holman, Home Manager at Glebe HouseThank you for sharing such kind words about your aunt's experience at Glebe House. We're so pleased to hear she feels happy, comfortable, and well cared for - that's exactly what we strive for. My mum had been living at Glebe house coming up for two years this year, a big shock for us that mum became unwell was taken into hospital was given the sad news she had cancer and it was just palliative care, Glebe house got her out of hospital and back to her home there. And the care was amazing they
not only looked after mum but also us. We could go in any time and stay with mum as long as we wanted too. Everyone was just amazing and the love I saw that they had for mum was just lovely, mum was a fighter right up to the end. Hospital gave her two weeks but she went over five weeks and the staff everyone of them are amazing and I can't say thank you enough to them for the care they gave mum, I miss going in not only seeing mum but seeing the staff and the other residences it's home from home. Like one big family. Glebe house residents and all the staff thank you so very very much for looking after mum and taking care of us at end of mum life much love to you all xx

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.907)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.907) out of 10 for Glebe House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.907 for Glebe House is calculated as follows: ( (400 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 441 Ratings = 4.907
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Glebe House is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

It’s such a rewarding career and team work is paramount to the safe running of my shift.
