This care home is outstanding in every way. The staff from management to carers are exceptionally kind, caring and sensitive both to residents and their families. The home is always friendly and welcoming and has a lovely atmosphere. The surroundings are luxurious and always spotlessly clean. There
is always lots going on for the residents with varied entertainments and trips out. My mum has been so well looked after, always treated with love and respect - what more could you want.

Delighted to be able to recommend The Shelley to my neighbour and happily there was a place available, just when she needed care for respite. The staff cared for her in a very respectful manner, which included humour and suggestions when appropriate. I am grateful that 24-hour care helped my friend
through a vulnerable time.

All care staff, without exception, are always cheerful, helpful and courteous. All staff are very hard working but always greet residents with a smile and help for disabled.
Gentle exercise and entertainment provided every day, plus short trips in minibuses around town and countryside.

There is only one word that will be appropriate for The Shelley and staff - AMAZING.
The quality of care and accommodation is off the scale and nothing is left to chance. The Shelley is outstanding on every aspect from care to food to entertainment. It is like one big family for the residents and the
family of those residents - AMAZING.

I recently stayed at The Shelley for two weeks respite care while my daughter and son-in-law went away for a holiday.
I couldn't have been looked after better. The care I received was outstanding. The staff were very attentive to all my needs. My visitors were made to feel very welcome. I enjoyed joining
in with many of the activities provided and the meals were excellent. I most certainly will be returning to The Shelley next time my family are unable to care for me.

I came here for respite care after leaving hospital. I have been surprised by the very high standard of care. Nothing is too much trouble to them. All of the staff have been very kind and sympathetic.
The food has been excellent, each meal has been excellent. Well prepared, beautifully presented and
cooked to perfection. Very suited to older people.

The Shelley is an amazing home, as soon as you are welcomed in you can’t help but notice the family friendly vibe.

Residents and staff alike always seem happy and smiling and you instantly feel at ease.

I really enjoy coming here, nothing seems too much trouble, you are made to feel so welcome

and part of it. Staff are so friendly, the house is grand yet homely and the activities on offer are excellent.

I for one would be very happy to live here.

My elderly friend has been a resident for several years now and I visit her usually twice a week. Having experienced other care homes (my fiancee works in the industry) 'The Shelley' most certainly ticks all the boxes. With the appearance of a traditional English 5 star hotel rather than a care home,
I always look forward to my visits. The staff are extremely warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It's also quite obvious that they function extremely well together as a fully cohesive team under the excellent leadership of their very experienced manager. It's the little touches also that make such a difference such as 'Fudge' the home's pet cat, as well as the tasteful decor that makes it feel so homely (I'm convinced that the owner is really a frustrated interior designer at heart!). There are always homemade 'goodies' available to go with my coffee (thanks to the excellent kitchen staff) which is one of the reasons I'm not there on a daily basis (to save my waistline!). Personally, I'd move in tomorrow myself, but then, unfortunately, I'm only 53!

For the three and a half years that I have been here, I have received nothing but kindness and attention. The rooms which are cleaned daily are warm and cosy and many enhanced with personal possessions. The food is varied and nutritious although perhaps not to every body's taste, tea.coffee and soft
drinks are available at all times. Visitors are welcome and offered refreshment. Help from the staff is immediately at hand for any eventuality. The varied entertainment outings and activities are phenomenal.
The qualified management are always ready to give medical and financial advice if needed.

I am a fit and healthy 'eighty-four-year-old' who lives by herself and I felt it would be wonderful to have a weeks respite care where I would be fed, watered and perhaps pampered. I had an excellent time in The Shelley. My room was spacious, warm and comfortable. I chose to have my meals in the main
dining room and enjoyed chatting to other residents. The downstairs lounge was warm and comfortable and had daily entertainment, from musical recitals to interesting talks on numerous subjects. I had a wonderful week and left feeling rejuvenated. I hope to return later in the year.

The Shelley is a fantastic home, meeting its residents individual and personal needs on a daily basis. The care they provide is outstanding.
As a close family friend, I was warmly welcomed. They always went over and above with the care they provided. Excelling in the end of life care they gave and
the support to the family.
I would not hesitate to recommend the home and the staff to anyone. I asked the home for this review as I feel they deserve the praise and credit for their outstanding care.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.963)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.963) out of 10 for The Shelley is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.963 for The Shelley is calculated as follows: ( (231 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 240 Ratings = 4.963
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Shelley is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
