Dad liked his quiet room, meals very good. Friendly staff and always helpful and very impressed with the calibre of all staff including housekeeping etc. As with most homes, could do with more staff as I think Dad could have done with more one to one (like a keyworker) to encourage him to take part
in activities. Lovely grounds, but not as accessible as could be.

From the first meeting, mum was treated with the utmost respect, dignity and every effort was made by all staff to make her feel welcome and comfortable.
The home's open door policy is very open, welcoming and convenient for all members to pop in.
We all had a high opinion of all staff members we
met and mum was looked after by all with a genuine and caring manner.
She left much recovered and well than when she arrived. Thank you very much from us all.

My mother has been a resident at Walstead Place for the last 18 months.
She is well cared for and in my mum's words 'it's very pleasant here'.
She has a lovely room overlooking the lovely garden where she watches the birds.
My mum has Dementia so we, her family, are glad she is settled and safe at
Walstead Place.
The staff are very helpful.

I arrived at Walstead Place feeling very nervous and worried.
6 months on and Walstead is 'my home' and the staff 'my friends'.
Great effort is made to keep us occupied - 'keep fit', quizzes, visiting musicians and singers - yesterday, bell ringers.
The food is excellent and plentiful.
Visitors
are made welcome at any time.
The grounds at Walstead are extensive and I enjoy taking a walk every day.
Could go on forever!

This elegant house is set in lovely grounds. The staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. They paid great attention to the needs of my husband as he is a long-term diabetic with vascular dementia. The house is beautifully clean and bright and airy. There are activities and outings for
those who might like to join in!

Walstead Place was very welcoming when we went to view it. The staff were very friendly and informative. When my cousin moved to Walstead after a stint in the hospital she was welcomed and made to feel at home. During her 2 weeks of respite, she was treated with respect and compassion. She was very
well fed and accommodated. Great perseverance was shown at all times. I was impressed with all the care.

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and facilities at Walstead Place Residential Care Home. There is a genuine, caring environment with full respect for the privacy of each resident and first-rate care that is tailored to the needs of each individual.
Walstead Place is set in lovely grounds that

I have nothing but praise for Walstead. It is an excellent, friendly, well run operation. The key to its success is it's dedicated, hard working, kind hearted staff. Our father who was very much a reluctant joiner was made to feel totally at home within two weeks of his arrival.
Walstead staff made
so much time to chat to him and take interest in him and what he said.
He really values the effort they put in and the interest they showed in his past.
In common with so many of his fellow residents, he had several short stays in hospital.
He always longed to return to his familiar Walstead.
When he came back from these visits the standard of care and devotion from the staff was exemplary. I have no hesitation in recommending Walstead.

My father has very recently died at Walstead Place Care Home and I cannot thank the staff enough for the support that he was given during his last few weeks. Nothing was ever too much trouble and I was very comforted by the support of the staff during this time. It must have been particularly difficult
for the younger members but they never wavered in their help and support.

Overall very good care home. Staff did stand out as being special. Meals good and leisurely.
Awkward doors for wheelchair and his zimmer was by his room so could never manage on his own.
Sometimes long wait 15-20mins when bathroom help was needed.
Activities are well arranged.
As winter arrived
there was no fresh air. Heating, although obviously, it must be warm, was often rather excessive in his room.
Sadly broadband is not working in his room but could get it in a few places.
He was moved to be near family.

I entered Walstead Place in a very frail condition following a kidney failure. The care I received met my needs and in seven months I had regained my lost weight and energy. I am about to have an operation to remove the failed kidney and will rely on Walstead Place to help me on the final path to a
recovery to full health. My care always came with kindness and friendly cheerfulness and good cooking!

My mother spent at least 3 years at Walstead Place Care Home and although she had a degree of dementia, the home and staff etc. certainly made her final years enjoyable. There were no stipulations on visiting. The staff were always friendly and sociable. Every day there were activities, occasionally
to different places in the minibus. Everybody that came with us to visit my mother could not speak highly enough of the home.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.633)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.633) out of 10 for Walstead Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.633 for Walstead Place is calculated as follows: ( (162 Excellents x 5) + (81 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 248 Ratings = 4.633
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Walstead Place is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
