MY wife has been a resident since 9th October 2024 and has never moved out since. Other than two emergency visits to hospital, which needed no treatment at all (the result of falls).
The room is quite basic but practical.
The lounge/dinning are seems quite comfortable and my wife seems overall very
content. She enjoys TV, activities and entertainment provided. Within the limits of her condition (deteriorating).
Overall, a very satisfactory placement - enjoying excellent staff. Thank you.

The staff are very friendly, helpful, and responsive. As a family, we visit our mother daily, and it is very rare that she appears sad. She shows clear signs of warmth and happiness toward the staff. Knowing our mother is settled and happy eases the pain we have for her being in a residential home.

Having visited a number of Care Homes in Cambridgeshire, looking for a suitable place for Carer's Respite for my Step Father to visit, we were so impressed with the Manager (Georgiana) and her staff at Fitzwilliam House that, even though the actual building was not as attractive as a Central Cambridgeshire
one we looked at, we decided Fitzwilliam was the right place for him.

The standards of care are amazingly high at my partner and I both agree that it is a classic case of good, caring practive filtering down from the top to the rest of the staff.

Well done to Georgiana and her Team at Fitzwilliam!!!!!

Reply from Georgiana Ispas, Home manager at Fitzwilliam HouseThank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We're delighted to hear that you felt confident choosing Fitzwilliam House for your stepfather's respite care. Our team works hard to ensure every person feels valued and cared for, and it means the world to know this was reflected in your experience. We truly believe that great care starts with a strong, compassionate team, and your kind words affirm that. We look forward to supporting your stepfather and making his stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible and we are glad he remained permanent part of our family.

This is a friendly, caring, spotlessly clean and well organised care home. The staff are absolutely fantastic - keeping me up to date, knowing the residents in detail and able to answer questions as well as provide support. Although the building itself is not modern it is well maintained and light and
airy. Laundry services are mainly effective in ensuring everyone's clothing is returned. There are usually lots of activities in the main lounge. The only gripe really is that the food is a bit variable. The care home gets good support from its local GP practice and advanced nurse practitioner. The manager is excellent and very knowledgeable. They provided excellent very compassionate end of life care to my mum
Reply from Georgiana Ispas, Home manager at Fitzwilliam HouseThank you so much for sharing your thoughtful feedback. We're delighted to hear that you found our home friendly, caring, and well-organised, and that our team kept you informed and supported throughout your mum's stay. It means a lot to us that you appreciated the compassionate end-of-life care we provided - this is something we take great pride in.
Were also pleased you noticed the cleanliness, the welcoming atmosphere, and the activities in the lounge. Your comments about the food being a little variable are very helpful; were always looking for ways to improve, and well share this with our catering team to ensure consistency.
Thank you again for taking the time to write such a detailed review. Your words motivate us to keep delivering the highest standard of care and support for residents and their families.

I do not get to visit very often but every time I do everyone is so welcoming, you can feel the love and care as soon as you enter the home.
The compassion shown to everyone is heart warming.
The new manager is always around to answer any questions and is always smiling, she made me feel so welcome.
Thank

People who lived at Fitzwilliam House Care Home received outstanding care from a staff team who were passionate about delivering a high-quality, person-centred service. People were truly valued and staff knew each person well. People's views were respected and they were involved in everything that happened

Mum moved into the care home in July 2023 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia. The staff quickly made us feel at ease and explained how Mum would be cared for. Now in December, we can honestly say that we are very impressed with the care Mum has received. All the staff are excellent and
approachable with any concerns which may arise. It's good to know Mum is cared for and safe in her new home.

The Fitzwilliam team are always so helpful and with a smile on their faces, even when things are really difficult. Lunches are very tasty and relevant to people with dementia. Now that my husband is non weight-bearing he has to be hoisted from chair to bed etc. Always carried out with care talking to
him the whole time so that he is aware of what is going on. Well done and thank you.

My mother has been at Fitzwilliam for almost 4 happy years. Although at times she can be a little difficult she is never treated with anything but kindness and consideration. This is all due to the amazing staff and their endless patience, for which I am extremely grateful and full of praise. The home

My mother has been a resident at the care home for 2 and a half years. Prior to her entering I struggled, as her son, to deal with the demands that an elderly person with dementia needs. My life changed when my mother became a resident of Fitzwilliam. They dealt with everything. My mother always looks
clean and well-presented. I have often sat and watched the interaction between staff and residents and there is a loving family bond between them. Well done all at Fitzwilliam, Cottenham - you are all great.

My father has been a resident at Fitzwilliam for 15 month now. The home is warm and welcoming and the staff very caring. Having helped look after my dad when he lived at his home it was important for me to stay involved with how he is cared for. At Fitzwilliam, I have been lucky enough to get to know
the staff, who are happy to talk with me about any concerns or suggestions I may have.
I believe that my dad is lucky to live at Fitzwilliam, and it is the staff at Fitzwilliam with their friendliness, experience and compassion that makes this an outstanding care home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.678)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.678) out of 10 for Fitzwilliam House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.853 for Fitzwilliam House is calculated as follows: ( (137 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 156 Ratings = 4.853
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fitzwilliam House is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
