My wife entered Curose in March 2023. She was disabled and had advanced dementia. In August 2023 she was placed in 'end of life care'. She died in June 2024.
For the last six months, she could not do anything for herself.

Tender loving care was given to her by all the staff. I cannot rate this care home highly enough. If I ever need care myself I will be heading to Culrose.

I had a weeks respite stay and was very anxious at first. I found the staff very friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble for them. They made me feel very at home.

The food was very good and plentiful. All in all, it was a very nice experience. Would go back again and would definitely recommend the home. Anyone looking for a home for their family member, this is the home to go to.

My husband has Alzheimer's disease and has been living at Culrose House for 8-months. He settled very well, thanks to all the staff. There have been some very difficult times, especially during a 2-week lockdown due to Covid. During this time, the staff seemed to be extra supportive. It is clear to me that management and staff have their priorities right. Residents' safety, dignity and wellbeing always come first. There is a real family feel at Culrose House. I and our family feel welcome at the home. I am sure this makes it easier for my husband to settle. I am able to spend quite a lot of time with my husband at Culrose House and notice that residents are all treated with genuine care and compassion. I'm pleased that now the Covid restrictions have eased, Culrose House is now able to offer a wider range of activities and entertainment for residents, there seems to be a greater sense of fun.

Back in 2013, of the four care home we visited with Mum, Curlrose was the one Mum felt happiest with. It was "home from home". She read, watched some TV, and enjoyed chatting with the carers. She was well looked after by kind and caring people. Thank you to all at Culrose House; Mum had a lovely eight years with you!

A chair would be handy in the room for visitors. Otherwise, no other problems.

Reply from Hannah Clarke, Owner at Culrose House

Thank you for your review. All bedrooms are furnished with a comfortable arm chair, if additional seating is required in the room for visits then visitors are welcome to use a chair from the atrium.

From the moment my dad arrived at Culrose House he was greeted with love and cared for brilliantly. He arrived the day of the Christmas party and there was a gift for Dad. The manager is great, she shows compassion and has time for service users and their families. My dad was very poorly but he smiled every time the care staff entered his room. All I can say, is thank you for everything.

I moved Mum to this care home in late January 2020, as the previous home was lacking in standards.
Upon arrival I was very impressed with the staff and manager. Mum was a little unsure at first, but after a couple of weeks started to settle.
Then in March 2020 we went into lockdown, I was very worried for Mum as she had only been there for a few weeks, but the staff were really good.
I visited Mum during the summer a few times and all was good, Mum was clean, well dressed and happy.
I am always kept up to date by the manager and staff as to Mum's wellbeing.

Standards at Culrose House are really good, so I feel happy in myself that Mum is well looked after.

Looking after my father-in-law brilliantly at a very difficult time. Couldn't ask for better.
He can be difficult but the manager and staff have been patient and kind while trying to deal with the whole Covid situation.
Only let down by poor communication from social services!

Oh and the birthday cakes are fantastic!

Overall Experience
We had heard that Culrose provides top-quality care and they had opened their new 12 bedroom extension and cafe. On the day we came to view Culrose we had high expectations and we are happy to say the team seem to be dedicated to ensure residents feel safe and happy. It was not easy for my mum to find a place for my Grandma and we were concerned if it would not feel like a home but more like an institution. From the moment we walked through the front door, Culrose staff made us feel at home and when we came to the Atrium we were impressed. Culrose is so different from other care homes, brilliant.
Food is important for my Grandma, they have a varied and nutritional diet freshly prepared at Culrose. I have also noted that they have good varieties of activities that my Grandma enjoys every week.

My Grandmas room has an en-suite and direct access to the covered Veranda. It is so nice I told the manager “in a joke” I wanted to move in (but as I am only 26). We are happy we found Culrose.

Overall Experience

My mother has received the best possible care from staff at Culrose, they have really impressed my family and I. There has never been a time where it has been too much trouble and I have never experienced where they have not put her needs first. They simply have loving, caring staff, helpful and at no point have I ever been concerned for my mother's wellbeing. I live some distance from Culrose and to visit her has been difficult for me, but staff has been helpful in any way for me to contact her or even using facetime which has been great for both of us. Where Culrose is really different from the other care homes we visited before we chose Culrose is that it is not a large commercial care home which many other care homes now seem to be. Culrose feels like a home not an institution which was important to my mother and the family. There are activities on all through the week, which we as a family have noticed improved my mother's wellbeing.

Culrose has a very calm, warm and friendly atmosphere. My father, although confused about many things, is grateful for the care he receives. With 20 residents, Culrose is small enough to be "homely" and not institutional and the staff are always kind to residents and welcoming to visitors. It is a difficult decision to "put your parent in a home" but my Dad and his family have been happy with our choice of Culrose.

My mother has been living in Culrose for 3 years, during this time she has been very happy. The staff are patient, caring and loving. There is regular entertainment and activities. The food is cooked on the premises and it is appropriate for the clients.

Recently the home has been upgraded and is looking much fresher and comfortable.

When we needed a care home for respite for my mother-in-law I phoned the home to be told we could go and view a freshly decorated room for her to stay in, and we viewed it and decided it was for us and for her to stay. She was welcomed into the home by all very friendly staff and she has a lovely room and very good food, perfect 24hr attention and she has now decided to stay in the home permanently after receiving all the first class attention she has received.
