Holmwood House is located within walking distance of Swaffham town centre, set within acres of beautiful grounds, an extended Grade II listed building dating from 1846.

Many of the original features have been retained and it has been sympathetically and tastefully converted. The main house has eight bedrooms, all enjoying fantastic views over the grounds.

Accessible from the main house is a purpose-built ground floor extension consisting of 32 bedrooms. All have en-suite facilities and there are two comfortable lounges, both of which have direct access to an enclosed garden. There is also a dining room and specialist facilities for bathing and showering.

Added in 2008, the Woodland Suite provides 19 en-suite bedrooms catering specifically for those with dementia and provides a safe and secure environment. There is a large lounge with unlimited access to a secure sensory garden, with residents taking an active role in its development.

I have found the care home to be excellent in the care for its residents and their well being. The food is very wholesome with variety and choice, and there is attention paid to entertainment, which is very important so that people are not bored. The staff are friendly, experienced and there is a good

The home sits in well kept grounds which create an air of tranquillity. The home itself is bright and well maintained, with a good sized lounge which overlooks the garden. My wife's bedroom has a garden view and comes with an en-suite toilet facility. There is a choice of meals throughout the week,
which are of good quality. The staff are very kind and attentive and do a very good job in what at times, are quite difficult circumstances. The staff also do their very best to organise activities to stimulate the residents. The most important thing is that my wife is very happy there and I feel she is in good hands. The overall package is in my opinion good value for money in today's climate.

My Mum has been at Holmwood house for well over a year now & in that time we have found the staff to be kind , very helpful, friendly and very supportive and considerate of my Mum . When she had a bad fall an ambulance was called very promptly & the nursing staff along with paramedics helped care for
her so well that Mum never felt worried or frightened. We were kept up to date with her progress & she recovered very well . She especially likes being taken outside into the garden, which seems to help with her mental health and talking to staff one to one.

What a welcoming place! My husband has only been here 13 days. I am very happy that he is here. The staff already seem to know him and are settling him in very well.

My mother has complex care needs, including (in my view) probable dementia psychosis. Because of her dementia, her first 2 years at the home were very challenging for a number of reasons. I am glad to say that she is now settled and stablised, due to excellent care received here. Mum now considers Holmwood,
her home. It would have been easy for the team to have given up on her, in those early days, but they didn't. They worked closely with me throughout to try and find solutions, whilst always preserving mum's dignity. Last year, they enabled mum to attend my wedding day, which would not have been possible without their support. I am very grateful to them for this. For me, the home has a "warm homely feel" whilst still maintaining professional clinical standards. There are many activities, the team are friendly, and for me it feels a "home from Holm(wood)". I am able to meet my external commitments, knowing that mum is being well looked after. This is such an overwhelming relief.

The care given by all the staff at Holmwood house, in my opinion, is outstanding.
My Dad is in the dementia wing. I am sure he is not always easy to deal with but they always treat him with kindness and a smile. He is happy and settled and enjoys many of the activities they set up. He
tells me the food is lovely!
I like the way every member of staff seems to know his name and greets him as they go past. Everything feels personal and homely.

My mother who is now 102 has been at Holmwood House for three years now. It is difficult for me living in the USA and being so far away, but I have come to trust the staff who take good care of her and keep her safe. I know she can sometimes be a little difficult, but they treat her with respect regardless.
I
am also impressed with the level of detail in the record keeping for each resident, and the fact that they have daily meetings to discuss changes in needs for every resident.
I feel I can recommend Holmwood House to anyone at that point in their lives where a loved one needs more care than the family can provide.

My wife originally went for respite care and was happy to return as a resident, when her condition worsened.
The staff are very welcoming and she soon became part of what feels like an extended family. I gather she joins in with some activities.
I also feel most welcome when I visit and the staff
and management are always approachable to discuss her specific needs. It is good to know she is well cared for and that I will be contacted whenever needed.

Mum has been able to take herself to the bathroom since moving to the home but following a couple of 'off' days, her legs gave way and she fell to the floor. On alerting staff using the buzzer, they acted quickly and carefully. Mum expressed pain in her back and hips so it was wisely felt to not attempt
to move her. The paramedics had already been contacted and (despite my being able to attend), there was a member of the care team with Mum at all times. Fortunately, Mum's only injury has been a fractured wrist, but the team are very attentive and caring and communicate with me regularly and clearly if there is any change in Mum's care plan or medication. Mum is so pleased to be there and feels she is well cared for which gives me tremendous peace of mind.

I have found Holmwood House from the first time visiting it to be very friendly with a family feel to it with the staff. A lot of them have been there for many years and are like family and this comes across in their care for the residents and their family members. They are always very informative to
me regarding my family member that is staying there and I can see they are well taken care off. There is always lots of fun activities of which I make a point of visiting when I can so I can join in and also there is always laughter around the home. I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for a place for their loved one. The house is set in its own amazing grounds that are always kept immaculate and this just gives the place a lovely feel from the minute you enter the car park. All the rooms are homely and spacious and you are allowed to make them personal to your own comfort and taste.

Working clinical shifts as well as supporting the Registered Manager in her role means Dawn is able to oversee and support staff in excellent care delivery. Dawn has a great passion for Diabetes Care and is also very involved in the delivery of training.

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 2003, and the Current Clinical Lead nurse at Holmwood House.
Prior to my training I worked in nursing and residential homes as a care worker, and as a student nurse did placements in the community care homes. I always loved the ‘homely’ feel of working in care homes rather than the clinical environments of hospitals, and that’s why I pursued a career in nursing in social care.
Since qualifying I have been lucky enough to work in lots of outstanding care homes who specialise in palliative care, young adults with head injuries, MS and care of the elderly.
Being a nurse has enabled me to travel and visit different places in the UK, have a varied role, and continuously learn new skills. It has enabled me to learn how to communicate with people and care for them. I have been involved in numerous projects and pilots throughout my career and lucky enough to win ‘best nursing care’ in the UK care home awards.
I am a big advocate for Nursing in Social Care and have recently been involved in the teaching and learning in care homes project at Holmwood House and currently a member of the Social Care Nursing Advisory Council for East of England region and involved in the ‘This Nurse Can campaign at UEA.

I am the Registered Home Care Manager at Holmwood House, having joined the team in January 2024.


I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2005 after completing my training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Following this, I transitioned to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn in April 2005. Over the past 20 years, I have gained extensive experience working across various acute medical wards. Additionally, I spent a year in the community as the Clinical Lead for Downham and Swaffham before returning to the hospital as the Ward Manager of the Acute Medical Unit.


Throughout my nursing career, I have developed a wealth of skills and expertise in acute and community healthcare settings. I am excited to bring this experience to Holmwood House and continue delivering high-quality care to our residents.
