I am very pleased with the care my father receives at Holmwood House. The staff are friendly and there is a nice atmosphere there. I have nothing but praise for the people who work there, knowing my father is well looked after.

My brother has been at Holmwood House since Jun 2019 following two incapacitating strokes. Myself and my wife have always been more than satisfied with his care. The staff are friendly and have time for everyone, including us. They keep him smiling and he seems 'happy'. The home is always clean and tidy.

We have had no qualms at all about recommending Holmwood House to people in our village. A friend whose husband had dementia moved her husband to Holmwood and it provided her with peace of mind in his last months of life.

My mother has been in Holmwood House Care Centre for six months now, she has Alzheimer's and can be a little awkward, however, I have found that the home has done everything it can to provide my mum with the care that she needs and deserves. If there are any problems, I have found the management to be very approachable and keen to iron out any issues. My mum is very settled and content, it feels warm and friendly when you visit, and I could not ask for her to be cared for any more than she is.

This review is for the unit caring for people with dementia. Outstanding family care with the residents cared for with respect. The residents are cared for as individuals. They are spoken to using their name. The atmosphere is friendly and calm. The staff work extremely hard but always with a smile, kindness and understanding.

The visiting family members are also cared for with a chat and friendliness.
We have never had to worry about our sister, knowing she receives appropriate and understanding care. She has special equipment in her room to help with her care. The room is always clean as is the entire unit.

All the staff work as a team.

I am very grateful that my father was placed at Holmwood House after release from hospital as the staff have been so kind and supportive to us both. They always have time to take to me and explain anything and he is very happy there. He tells me frequently that the staff are smashing. Due to Covid, I have been unable to see much of the inside of Holmwood House so cannot comment on some of the points.

I have found Holmwood House to be a very good care home. My father has terminal cancer and I feel considering it is not a hospice they have met his needs to a top standard. I have had regular feedback from the nurses and carers about his condition and feel he is being treated with care and dignity. So, all in all, I would recommend to a friend.

The past 18 months have not been easy for anyone especially for the residents in care.

Over these months Holmwood House has done everything possible to keep residents safe and still allowing me to visit my mum whenever possible. I am very happy with the care my mother has received during this difficult time and over the years that she has been at Holmwood.

Mum has been at Holmwood for many years now. The care she receives is very good, we have no concerns about her at all. She is settled and happy. The staff are always pleasant and friendly. It has been a strange year for everyone, but they seemed to have done a good job in a difficult situation.

My parent now considers Holmwood to be their home. The carers and nurses have been kind, patient and caring. The food has been greatly appreciated by my parent. The staff have also been very accommodating to me when I have wanted to call at any time. I have no concerns over safety or Covid. Holmwood has more of a feel of a home rather than an institution with lovely grounds.

Although only a resident at Holmwood house for a very short spell of time to receive palliative end of life care, our family were so impressed by the standard of care, compassion and dignity shown to our loved one. Nothing was too much trouble for any member staff in regards to the care they gave.
The whole family were supported throughout the time we were there. These truly wonderful people went above and beyond giving us privacy to spend much wanted time with our Nan and Mum, even after she had sadly passed. We really can't thank you enough for all that you did. Myself and other members of the family have worked in the care industry for a number of years and were all so so impressed. Please, please keep doing what you do, you made a sad and heartbreaking time easier. As a family, we only wish our Nan and Mum could have been with you longer.

Well done to all, from the managers, nurses, care support workers and the domestic team; we thank each and every one of you.

Charlene Waldron
Charlene WaldronJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2020

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 2003 and became the Home Manager at Holmwood House.

Before my training, I worked in nursing and residential homes as a care worker, and as a student nurse did placements in the community care homes. I always loved the ‘homely’ feel of working in care homes rather than the clinical environments of hospitals, and that’s why I pursued a career in nursing in social care.

Since qualifying, I have been lucky enough to work in lots of outstanding care homes that specialise in palliative care, young adults with head injuries, MS and care of the elderly.

Being a nurse has enabled me to travel and visit different places in the UK, have a varied role, and continuously learn new skills. It has enabled me to learn how to communicate with people and care for them. I have been involved in numerous projects and pilots throughout my career, and am lucky enough to win ‘best nursing care’ in the UK care home awards.

I am a big advocate for Nursing in Social Care and have recently been involved in the teaching and learning in care homes project at Holmwood House, and currently a member of the Social Care Nursing Advisory Council for the East of England region and involved in the ‘This Nurse Can campaign at UEA.

Molly qualified as a nurse 21 years ago, fulfilling a lifelong ambition. Though initially planning to become a general nurse, she chose to specialise in mental health nursing – a decision that has shaped her career ever since.

She began working in forensic units, thriving in high-pressure settings and supporting individuals with challenging behaviours. Later, she transitioned into social care, where she discovered a passion for dementia support.

Molly has held senior roles, including Clinical Lead Nurse and Deputy Manager in a care home for residents with complex neurological needs. Her depth of experience and person-centred approach led her to join the nursing and management team at Holmwood House.

Outside of work, Molly enjoys time with her family and puppy, tending her allotment, and attending music festivals.

Proud to be a nurse, she feels privileged to support individuals living with dementia, delivering care that is compassionate, meaningful, and truly person-centred.
