Holmwood House is located within walking distance of Swaffham town centre, set within acres of beautiful grounds, an extended Grade II listed building dating from 1846.

Many of the original features have been retained and it has been sympathetically and tastefully converted. The main house has eight bedrooms, all enjoying fantastic views over the grounds.

Accessible from the main house is a purpose-built ground floor extension consisting of 32 bedrooms. All have en-suite facilities and there are two comfortable lounges, both of which have direct access to an enclosed garden. There is also a dining room and specialist facilities for bathing and showering.

Added in 2008, the Woodland Suite provides 19 en-suite bedrooms catering specifically for those with dementia and provides a safe and secure environment. There is a large lounge with unlimited access to a secure sensory garden, with residents taking an active role in its development.

Holmewood House Care Centre is very well managed and the carers treat my mother with dignity, care and consideration. They attend to details that are so important for enabling the residents to feel at home here. My mother has settled in happily which brings peace of mind to me and her family.

Although my relative has only been in the care home for three weeks, we cannot speak highly of their care and commitment to her. Their caring is excellent and we can't ask for more and we would just like to say a big thank you to them all.

My wife has lived in Holmwood House for more than a year now and is settled in an environment, which is obviously strange to her. Her needs are very complex, and all the staff look after her with care and compassion.

My mother continues to recvieve very good care. It is reassuring that she is in a safe place and in good hands. All of the staff are very caring and treat her with respect. The staff always contact me with any issues, however minor.

I have always been made welcome when I visit my mum. They keep me up to date whenever there is an issue with Mum to when she has a fall. When mum has had a fall in the past the on-duty nurse keeps me informed if anything changes regarding her healing.

My godmother has been a permanent resident of Holmwood House since May 2022. Prior to this, follwing ilness she spent time in hospital and a temporary care home.
She was very keen to stay in the Swaffham area and asked that my wife and I find her somewhere suitable. We surveyed a number of care homes.
We
were impressed by the staff that showed us around and the facilities at Holmwood House and recommended Holmwood House to her.
She settled in very quickly and is generally very happy and content, albeit unwilling to mix and interact with the other residents.

My brother has been at Holmwood House since Jun 2019 following two incapacitating strokes. Myself and my wife have always been more than satisfied with his care. The staff are friendly and have time for everyone, including us. They keep him smiling and he seems 'happy'. The home is always clean and
tidy.
We have had no qualms at all about recommending Holmwood House to people in our village. A friend whose husband had dementia moved her husband to Holmwood and it provided her with peace of mind in his last months of life.

My mother has been in Holmwood House Care Centre for six months now, she has Alzheimer's and can be a little awkward, however, I have found that the home has done everything it can to provide my mum with the care that she needs and deserves. If there are any problems, I have found the management to
be very approachable and keen to iron out any issues. My mum is very settled and content, it feels warm and friendly when you visit, and I could not ask for her to be cared for any more than she is.

This review is for the unit caring for people with dementia. Outstanding family care with the residents cared for with respect. The residents are cared for as individuals. They are spoken to using their name. The atmosphere is friendly and calm. The staff work extremely hard but always with a smile,
kindness and understanding.


The visiting family members are also cared for with a chat and friendliness.
We have never had to worry about our sister, knowing she receives appropriate and understanding care. She has special equipment in her room to help with her care. The room is always clean as is the entire unit.
All the staff work as a team.

I am very grateful that my father was placed at Holmwood House after release from hospital as the staff have been so kind and supportive to us both. They always have time to take to me and explain anything and he is very happy there. He tells me frequently that the staff are smashing. Due to Covid,
I have been unable to see much of the inside of Holmwood House so cannot comment on some of the points.

I have found Holmwood House to be a very good care home. My father has terminal cancer and I feel considering it is not a hospice they have met his needs to a top standard. I have had regular feedback from the nurses and carers about his condition and feel he is being treated with care and dignity.
So, all in all, I would recommend to a friend.

The past 18 months have not been easy for anyone especially for the residents in care.
Over these months Holmwood House has done everything possible to keep residents safe and still allowing me to visit my mum whenever possible. I am very happy with the care my mother has received during this difficult
time and over the years that she has been at Holmwood.

I have found a very caring attitude by the staff and have always been timely informed when problems have occurred. I have no complaints whatsoever. With regards to the standard of the rooms, I have not visited her room so I can offer no comment.

Mum has been at Holmwood for many years now. The care she receives is very good, we have no concerns about her at all. She is settled and happy. The staff are always pleasant and friendly. It has been a strange year for everyone, but they seemed to have done a good job in a difficult situation.

My parent now considers Holmwood to be their home. The carers and nurses have been kind, patient and caring. The food has been greatly appreciated by my parent. The staff have also been very accommodating to me when I have wanted to call at any time. I have no concerns over safety or Covid. Holmwood
has more of a feel of a home rather than an institution with lovely grounds.

Dawn has been a qualified nurse for over 35 years and has worked at Holmwood House since 2005. Working clinical shifts as well as supporting the Registered Manager in her role means Dawn is able to oversee and support staff in excellent care delivery. Dawn has a great passion for Diabetes Care and is also very involved in the delivery of training.

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 2003, and the Current Clinical Lead nurse at Holmwood House.
Prior to my training I worked in nursing and residential homes as a care worker, and as a student nurse did placements in the community care homes. I always loved the ‘homely’ feel of working in care homes rather than the clinical environments of hospitals, and that’s why I pursued a career in nursing in social care.
Since qualifying I have been lucky enough to work in lots of outstanding care homes who specialise in palliative care, young adults with head injuries, MS and care of the elderly.
Being a nurse has enabled me to travel and visit different places in the UK, have a varied role, and continuously learn new skills. It has enabled me to learn how to communicate with people and care for them. I have been involved in numerous projects and pilots throughout my career and lucky enough to win ‘best nursing care’ in the UK care home awards.
I am a big advocate for Nursing in Social Care and have recently been involved in the teaching and learning in care homes project at Holmwood House and currently a member of the Social Care Nursing Advisory Council for East of England region and involved in the ‘This Nurse Can campaign at UEA.

Hannah Aldous – Registered Home Care Manager, Holmwood House


I am the Registered Home Care Manager at Holmwood House, having joined the team in January 2024.


I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2005 after completing my training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Following this, I transitioned to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn in April 2005. Over the past 20 years, I have gained extensive experience working across various acute medical wards. Additionally, I spent a year in the community as the Clinical Lead for Downham and Swaffham before returning to the hospital as the Ward Manager of the Acute Medical Unit.


Throughout my nursing career, I have developed a wealth of skills and expertise in acute and community healthcare settings. I am excited to bring this experience to Holmwood House and continue delivering high-quality care to our residents.
