Shipdham Manor, which is more than 200 years old, may have a lot of history but offers facilities very much in keeping with the twenty-first century.

Shipdham Manor in Shipdham is well-situated to give residents easy access to the local post office, church, village store and doctor's surgery.

Care staff are chosen not only for their skills but also for the warmth, friendliness and caring attitude.

An optician, dentist and chiropodist regularly visit the care home and an in-house hairdressing salon caters to residents' hair needs as well as providing manicures.

Seeing and experiencing the level of care, help and assistance and love shown to my mother since her arrival at Shipdham Manor gives me a great deal of relief. I am familiar with the high level of care provided, as my auntie stayed at the Manor for 7 years, and our family are completely happy for mum
to be with you.
Reply from Jessica Turner, Manager at Shipdham Manorthank your your kind words, it is a pleasure having mum back with us after her many years of visiting.

Staff are friendly, caring and compassionate. They know the residents well and respond to their individual needs, calmly and appropriately. Residents appear clean and well cared for. There is a range of regular activities, garden for those who enjoy being outside. Sometimes the alarm bells can be left
ringing for some time. Residents are safe.
Reply from Jessica Turner, Manager at Shipdham Manorthank you for your kind words, our staff are all very passionate about providing person centred care. I am sorry you feel call bells can be ringing for some time, I will address this with the staff, we complete regular call bell monitoring audits to ensure bells are responded to efficiently and will continue to monitor this.

The home has a warm homely atmosphere, the rooms are very clean, decoration is good. The residents are encouraged to bring in ornaments, pictures etc to make them feel at home. Rooms have en-suites which allows privacy & dignity for the residents. The views from the room look onto very well maintained
gardens with easy access to them. The two large lounges are very spacious. The management & staff are very caring & supportive well staffed & are good at keeping familes up dated. My friend really enjoys the food & there is a wide variety of activities. The safety & security is a high priority excellent value for money.

I have found the Shipdham Manor care home to be an excellent choice. My wife spent the last 2 1/2 years living there and I believe she was as happy as she could possibly be whilst suffering with dementia which she has had for over 5 years in total. The family atmosphere which is encouraged at the home
was largely responsible for my wife's relative happiness and I appreciated the care and support for both my wife and I have always received. I have always been made very welcome on my many visits. I would and regularly recommend the home to everyone I know and meet.

My father, whom had advanced vascular dementia had been a resident at shipdham manor care home for 18 months before he sadly passed away in November 2025.
I cannot praise the staff enough for the care and support that Dad and our family received, they all went above and beyond to care for dad despite
the fact he could sometimes be very challenging.
As soon as you enter shipdham manor you can instantly see and feel just how much the staff really care about all their residents and even though dad was only with them for a short time it felt like an extension to our family.
The care even continues after dad passed away, a few of dads main carers came to the funeral and we were invited to come and join them at the home for some of their Christmas activities, the navitity that the staff put on was amazing.
Thank you again for making a very difficult time a lot easier.
Reply from Jessica Turner, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you for your kind words, we always say that when anyone comes through our door they are part of our family, and you always will be. We are really glad you enjoyed the nativity, we are hoping to do more Shipdham manor productions and are currently looking at a summer show which would be lovely to have you here again for. The staff did do amazing at the nativity and the residents really enjoyed it which makes it all worth it!

My wife has Alzheimer's and has been at Shipdham Manor for 18 months. There are no restrictions on visiting hours and I am always made to feel welcome. Staff were well together and seem happy as they perform their duties. Her room is always clean and tidy. My wife has always been a fussy eater but never
refuses her food. The quality of which I can personally vouch for. Everyone at the home is treated with respect. I am very happy with the quality of care that my wife is receiving. She is safe and I can rest knowing that she is being well looked after.

Very caring, heart-felt staff. Very impressed with the knowledge of what was happening and what was going to happen as my nan had died. Helpful in answering any question. Help me pack personal belongings and taking to the car. I was grateful to hear about her last few days. She was happy and settle
at the home. Had been a resident for serval years.
Must say they also kept a close eye on her husband. They were very accommodating in supporting him to watch the funeral online as he could not attend. My grandad continues to stay at Shipdham Manor. I can't dream of him being anywhere else.

I have always found the staff in Shipdham Manor Care Home very polite, friendly and respectful. My mum likes a bit of banter and the staff comply with jokes and laughter. She loves to spend time in her room watching tv or doing her word search. The staff always pop in and check on her.
The head of
care keeps me updated with any doctors visits and medication changes.
We always feel very welcome to visit and I like how the staff know who I am and talk about my mum with fondness.

Shipdham Manor is mainly a dementia home, so my friend found it noisy and residents kept coming into her room. The staff were excellent but trained more for dementia residents. The food was good. The internal decorations could do with some paint and TLC.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you for your kind review. Majority of our residents do have dementia and we have put measures in place to make sure all residents have their own privacy and space. We have a process in place and currently working on our inside decorations. I do apologise for the late response I was having difficulty with my account. I hope you are well.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.617)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.617) out of 10 for Shipdham Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.742 for Shipdham Manor is calculated as follows: ( (137 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 178 Ratings = 4.742
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shipdham Manor is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
