Shipdham Manor, which is more than 200 years old, may have a lot of history but offers facilities very much in keeping with the twenty-first century.

Shipdham Manor in Shipdham is well-situated to give residents easy access to the local post office, church, village store and doctor's surgery.

Care staff are chosen not only for their skills but also for the warmth, friendliness and caring attitude.

An optician, dentist and chiropodist regularly visit the care home and an in-house hairdressing salon caters to residents' hair needs as well as providing manicures.

The support received by immediate family has been extremely good. My sister's general health has improved since being moved to Shipdham Manor ie her skin and hair have improved and she has gained weight (this being positive in her case). Staff have always been pleasant and helpful and there is always
someone available if needed - no flapping around or sitting at tables with backs to residents.

Cheerful surroundings and good initiatives which allow residents to maintain an element of personal control such as the tuck shop and cafe.

My father was admitted into Shipdham Manor on 17/10/15 from his first meeting with management to discuss his future and his care plans while he is in their care. All the staff and management concerned with my father's well-being have always been very kind, comforting and always carried out any tasks
with true professionalism. As his son knowing my father is being looked after in this way is very comforting. Thank you to them all.

Lovely care home. Always very clean with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are lovely and take good care of my grandma. We usually visit once a month as we have to travel and the staff are always very accommodating over when we can visit (even in the middle of lunch time) and my grandma seems
happy. The food she has there also looks great!

My mother-in-law moved to the care home in May 2016. She has thrived since being at Shipdham Manor taking part in activities inside the home and day trips out and about the local area. She has a nice bright room overlooking the garden. The staff work extremely hard and she is well cared for. My wife
has had a huge weight taken off her shoulders knowing her mum is in receipt of such great care. I would thoroughly recommend this care home.

All staff friendly with both residents and family. Always happy to welcome visitors and make them tea.
Queries or requests are passed to the manager without fail.
They try and make sure residents are happy and manage their clinical care and social care, activities and rest to suit each individual
whenever possible.
My mum is happy and relaxed, she trusts all the staff even when a little confused.

My grandma has been at Shipdham Manor for almost two years and in that time, I have witnessed the amazing work that the staff do for all of the residents. They treat each resident as an individual and with the respect and dignity that they deserve.

Since being there, my family and I feel reassured

that we know she is in safe hands and is always cared and looked after. When visiting you can see the love my grandma has for the staff members (often they get more smiles and hugs than we do!) which says everything.

The care home itself is such a lovely environment which is kept clean and nicely decorated. I love how they put so much effort into decorating rooms such as the garden room (our favourite) and the beauty room.

I am so glad that my grandma is happy and settled at Shipdham Manor and that is all thanks to the lovely staff who I admire so much for what they do. Thank you for taking such great care of our loved ones.

Every time we visit my father, we are always greeted by friendly staff. We feel he is being very well cared for and nothing is too much trouble for the manager and her very caring team. As we live abroad, we have peace of my mind that he is in the best place. He especially enjoys meal times as the home
cooked food is excellent. He is always treated with care and respect.

Mum has been a resident now for about 4 years and the whole time she has lived at Shipdham Manor, the staff have been wonderful. The place has a friendly homely feel and the manager and her staff work extremely hard to provide first-class care. We had no hesitation in choosing Shipdham Manor for mum
as we had already experienced their professionalism as my paternal grandmother had been a resident too.

My step-mum was previously in 2 other care homes which I was not happy with. What a difference Shipdham Manor is, the staff are all very caring, there is always someone around to answer any questions and the manager updates me regularly on any health issues. My step-mum has sadly deteriorated in her
general health, she always looks comfortable in bed and the staff check her regularly and offer her drinks.

After visiting several care homes previously, my first thought as I entered the front door was there isn't that smell that I've come to attribute to care homes. The cleanliness and indeed the care given to my mother is exemplary and it certainly made me feel that we, as a family, made the correct decision.

My Dad was transferred here after a long stay in the hospital. The care home manager was most helpful and accommodating to my Dad's needs.

The staff were all friendly and helpful and made a good effort to get to know dad in the 5 and a half months he was a resident.

Sadly Dad deteriorated quite

rapidly in the last month and we were kept up to date with any changes. Compassion was in abundance from all staff who were there on the day Dad passed away.

In the final days before her death, my Aunt received the highest care. She was treated with dignity and respect. Kindness was shown both to her and to her family. We were kept fully informed of the situation and able to contact the home if we needed to know about anything. On her death, the care home
manager couldn't have been more supportive and helpful.

Final months of my mother's care at Shipdham Manor. Though ailing fast since Christmas she was afforded the same level of care and kindness that I have come to expect from this establishment. In her last few day's I was kept fully informed of all that was being done to keep her comfortable and I believe
her dignity was respected right to the end. After her passing the home's staff continued to keep me fully informed of events and this made the whole process that little bit easier to bear.

My mother has never made any complaints to us about her care in the four and half years she has lived here and we believe she has had a good quality of life.
She is now totally dependent on her carers, but still takes a more sedate active part in the many different activities offered.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.614)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.614) out of 10 for Shipdham Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.714 for Shipdham Manor is calculated as follows: ( (140 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 189 Ratings = 4.714
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shipdham Manor is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
