Shipdham Manor, which is more than 200 years old, may have a lot of history but offers facilities very much in keeping with the twenty-first century.

Shipdham Manor in Shipdham is well-situated to give residents easy access to the local post office, church, village store and doctor's surgery.

Care staff are chosen not only for their skills but also for the warmth, friendliness and caring attitude.

An optician, dentist and chiropodist regularly visit the care home and an in-house hairdressing salon caters to residents' hair needs as well as providing manicures.

Shipdham Manor have been looking after my mother and are doing the very best they can in difficult circumstances. I live three hours away so the regular updates provided by the manager and staff are invaluable. My mother recently turned 85 and Shipdham Manor made a cake for her and celebrated the day
properly. The staff are second to none.

My mother-in-law has now resided at this care home for quite some time.
During the whole of this period the care, both professional and pastoral, has been exemplary.
The home has an extremely personal feel that puts both my mother-in-law and her family at ease;
This is reinforced by the disposition
of the staff who I have found all, without exception, to be everything I as a family member would want them to be.
I would not hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend this care home.

My husband has been a resident since 2013. The care he has received has been wonderful, from the whole team from top to bottom. In the past few weeks he has needed care beyond the norm and received it. I can't fault them.

In my experience I find Shipdham Manor to be always clean and friendly, the staff are most helpful, and obliging and very efficient. It is always secure, and visiting times are very convenient. My mum has been a resident since 2006 and she will be 100 next year. I think this is due to the care and attention
she has received in the last 10 years.

While I visited my friend he was made as comfortable as possible, was offered drinks, turned regularly and staff treated him with respect and spoke to him normally. The room he is in is light, bright and cheerful. The staff are very friendly to visitors and kind and gentle with the residents. I was
very impressed with everything at Shipdham Manor in Shipdham.

My father has been a resident at Shipdham Manor for over 1 year now. I have found the home to offer excellent care. He looks better, is healthier than when on his own at home. The management are excellent and do all they can to keep us informed re his well-being, care needs etc.

The Manager clearly has a thorough understanding of the needs of individuals with varying types and stages of Dementia. We were worried that Dad would not settle (in a previous home his room was on the ground floor) but this wasn't an issue and he soon responded to the well chosen staff’s care and
attention. He especially enjoys the trips out and gardening. He doesn’t stop talking about how lovely the food is especially the “special” baked potatoes which he seems to have discovered for the first time. Thanks to the great kitchen team we are sure that when he is weighed again he will have gained. Overall he seems content and because he can spend time outside now, his skin has taken on a healthy glow. The Activities Co-ordinator is fantastic and will email photos of Dad to my sister who lives in the USA - for whom this time is especially difficult. In fact all of the staff I have met so far do a wonderful job. This is a home very much focussed on individual centred care and it shows.

A lot of work has been put in to make the garden area colourful and pleasant for the residents. One lady in particular has worked exceptionally hard involving some of the residents with the planting. The trough outside my mother's room is delightful having been planted with flowers of purple, mauve
and pink her favourite colours. Very thoughtful.

I visit my grandmother regularly at least four times a week. When you enter the home the staff are so friendly. My grandmother is still very with it and still reads the paper everyday and enjoys the company of the staff. The food is good and my grandmother is looked after well.

My mother never wanted to go into a home, but was advised to after heart problems. I looked at many homes but decided on Shipdham as it is so friendly and so well organised in the managers capable hands. My mother has settled in well and enjoys the company of the staff. They make my mother very comfortable
as she does not walk. I visit every day so see how the home is run and it is always a happy place.

I cannot recommend this care home highly enough.

My mother has vascular dementia, which has worsened at an incredible speed. The home, the manager and the staff have responded to her deteriorating condition with sympathy, understanding and respect. Her care plan is updated regularly and I am always

kept informed of anything that relates to mum's well being or day to day care.

The staff are kind and patient, and no agency staff are used. All food is cooked on the premises from fresh, with a varied menu. Mum's meals have been adapted to enable her to continue to eat independently.

This is an excellent care home.

The home is very secure and all members of staff are very helpful. If there is a problem we are rung straight away by the manager. When there was a bug in the home no visitors were allowed which is the right action. Very professional home.

We visited more than ten care homes to find the right place for our Mum. Such a difficult decision to make at a time when emotions are running high at the thought of Mum going into care. I could see straight away that staff and management were committed to offering the best care possible in a professional
yet friendly way to all the residents. There was a noticeable absence of any bad odors unlike almost all the other homes we'd visited. Our Mum has now been living there for two years and shes always treated with care and respect. If we as a family have had any concerns they are always dealt with immediately to our satisfaction. The activities organizer is an absolute credit to the home. Shes always working on the next project to keep the residents entertained as much as possible. The manager is very hands on so to speak and you will often find her serving lunches. This seems to promote respect from the staff and they all work well together as a team.

My dad came here for respite and has settled so well that he wants to stay. This has taken a lot of worry off my family as dad lived a few miles away. Before my daughters and I had to go over every night to put him to bed. We would then worry that he would get up and fall and not be found until his
carers came in the morning. We all, including dad, feel much happier knowing he has someone here 24/7 to help him when needed. The manager and staff are always pleasant and helpful. We love being able to just walk less than five minutes up the road to see dad!

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.638)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.638) out of 10 for Shipdham Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.813 for Shipdham Manor is calculated as follows: ( (128 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 155 Ratings = 4.813
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shipdham Manor is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
