Shipdham Manor, which is more than 200 years old, may have a lot of history but offers facilities very much in keeping with the twenty-first century.

Shipdham Manor in Shipdham is well-situated to give residents easy access to the local post office, church, village store and doctor's surgery.

Care staff are chosen not only for their skills but also for the warmth, friendliness and caring attitude.

An optician, dentist and chiropodist regularly visit the care home and an in-house hairdressing salon caters to residents' hair needs as well as providing manicures.

So far my mother seems to have settled in and the level of care she is being given has been good. Her medication has been maintained and she appears to have her diabetes under control. Having had a bad experience with a previous home I'm satisfied that finally, she is getting the care she needs.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you for your kind response. Mum is such a big character here and she has a good relationship with the other residents and staff. She is always eager to get involved with the different activities we have going on in the home. I do apologise for the late response, I was having difficulty with my account.

The manager and the team offer a fantastic quality of care to our mum; we cannot fault their services. We are regularly kept informed and updated promptly of any changes in Mum's care package. Mum really enjoys the services they offer, hair done weekly, flower arranging classes and colouring - they
have so much patience. Thanks to all the staff.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you so much for your lovely review. Mum is very sociable and is often completing lovely pictures for the staff to enjoy. She has a good relationship with the other residents and staff. She is always a happy lady. I do apologise for the late response as I was having issues with my account.

I am not related to this resident but am responsible for this family friend. Regardless, after nearly six years of care, I have been very content with their consistent good care. (I am a retired nurse with care of the elderly experience).
Throughout Covid, the communication was exemplary, with activity
newsletters sent monthly via email and regular resident of the day (tel call/email) to confirm there were no issues from the home or myself.
The staff workload cannot be easy, and yet, they find time to do the above.
This has continued, which is so positive and reassuring.
Thank you to all the staff and good leadership.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you so much for your kind review. We are going to begin the monthly newsletters again soon with the different activities that go on in the home for relatives to see. We love our resident of the day as it gives us a clear overview of all our residents needs. I do apologise it has taken me so long to respond, I was having difficulty with my account.

Mum has been with Shipdham Manor for over a year now, and I cannot fault the care, attention and commitment of all staff. Communication is excellent, whether it be on a general basis sharing updates or events at the home or privately when situations arise.
Since the easing of lockdown, activities
are increasing, and I love that the families of residents are involved.
The staff management has been excellent throughout, and even during my own troubles, I have felt compassion and support. Mum's care is managed really well, and I feel reassured she is definitely in the right place. Staff are professional and genuinely caring even in the most stressful situations.
Great work, everyone at Shipdham Manor; you are all brilliant!
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you for this lovely review. I have shared this with staff. Mum is a big character and has a good relationship with other residents and staff. She likes to have a good chat and a giggle with staff. This home is so lovely. The team are lovely. The care staff are caring, compassionate, respectful and loving and know the residents. The food always smells great and accommodates the most challenging of eaters. The admin team are quick to reply to emails and very helpful when explaining and dealing
with outside agencies. They are always there on the phone when needed. Thank you.

More than satisfied with the care my mother receives. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The home is very clean. My mother is happy, which is comforting to know. Whenever I've visited, I have felt welcome. During Covid, everyone seemed well-practised in the proper procedure to follow.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you for your kind review. When looking for a care home we look for reviews mainly for the care our loved ones will receive whilst a resident. I wanted to write a review about Mum's last few days. I was telephoned and told Mum had deteriorated and her lack of food and water were of a concern and they were contacting the doctor.
A few days later it was becoming apparent that Mum was at end of life and family members from around the country were encouraged to visit. I was kept informed on a daily basis about Mum and then got that call that everyone dreads. I got to the care home and was met with the manager sat on the floor on the crash mat holding Mum's hand with another staff member stroking her head. When Mum's breathing changed I called for help, a few of the staff came in and said their goodbyes - it was so clear how much they loved her. I have no hesitation in recommending Shipdham Manor, it is an exceptional care home in life and our loved one's passing. I am hoping to volunteer in the New Year.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you for this beautiful review. Mum was such a big character here and she is very missed. We still talk about our days with her. We are accredited in the six steps programme for end of life care. We would love to have you as a volunteer at the home. I will get in contact soon.
I do apologise for the late review as I was having issues accessing the account.

We cannot praise all the staff at Shipdham Manor enough for the care they gave our friend over the past two years. He loved living there, even though it was psychologically hard for him to give up his home in our village. He enjoyed all of the activities, including celebrating the Jubilee and Remembrance
Day. They made these events special for him. The medical care was exceptional and they always kept us fully informed. We felt fully confident that they looked after him so well and called the GP whenever it was needed. It was clear to see how his health improved dramatically after moving to Shipdham Manor, all credit to the care he received there. From his arrival during the covid pandemic to his death, he was treated with dignity and respect and for this, we will always be truly grateful.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you so much for this lovely review. He was a big character here and is missed. We work very closely with our local GP surgery and are lucky to have them on our door step. I do apologise for the late review I was having issues accessing my account.

The staff at Shipdham Manor are exceptional. This goes right across the board, from the manager to the youngest team member. Care and gentle manners are very evident, as is their way of dealing with my Mum, who, with advanced Dementia, is not always easy, and in addition, is unable to stand or walk
unaided.
Recently, a Covid outbreak within the home caused inevitable staff shortages when demand was high. I know the staff were under huge pressure, and yet they managed to take extra time to deal with two issues that became apparent after my mother was well again. These issues were dealt with quickly and efficiently, and I was really appreciative of the extra attention the staff gave.
My mother has been a resident for over five years, and throughout all that time, the care and support shown for Mum have been excellent. As I recently moved away from Norfolk, I feel particularly blessed to be able to leave her, knowing that she will always be well looked after during my long absence in-between visits.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you so much for your lovely, kind words, Frances. This really means a lot to all of the staff. It is nice knowing that our hard work is recognised. Your mum is such a lovely lady, and we all enjoy looking after her! We are glad to hear that you feel relaxed about your mum being with us.

My mum has been at Shipdham Manor for some time now, and I have never had a problem with her care. The staff keep relatives very well informed of everything that is happening with their family member, and are always kind and respectful to my Mum and us her wider family. Mum was in the care home before
the Covid-19 began, and I knew the whole time that I couldn't see her that Mum was being looked after. My work has meant that I have been likely to come in contact with people with the virus, and I have been reluctant to visit Mum as I don't want to unknowing infect her or any of the other residents or staff. This has caused me to feel guilty at not visiting as often as I should (despite testing, I'm conscious I may be infected) but all through the pandemic, my mind has been at rest because I know Mum is safe and cared for. Whenever I've been there, the staff always look happy, and despite being very busy, have time to ask after us and answer any questions we may have.

My mother was a resident for 15-months. She was very happy in Shipdham Manor. The end of life care she received was excellent. The staff were all very kind and caring towards her. She was made comfortable and was very well looked after, nothing was too much trouble. She was treated with great dignity,
and I will be forever thankful to the staff who took care of her.

My nan has been in this home for over two years now, and I can hand on heart say this is a fantastic home full of caring staff members. My nan has a cheeky character, and it’s lovely to see that reflected in the way how the staff interact with her. You can feel the warmth when you walk through the front
door. They work hard at getting all residents involved in activities, and it’s lovely to see that reflected in the newsletter they send out. During this time, it has been wonderful to be able to still ‘see’ my nan via FaceTime. I can not thank them enough for taking such good care of my nan. It’s a hard decision to transition to a care home, but the staff here made it easy. 5-star care. Thank you.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you for your lovely review; your nan is such a loved character who is a pleasure to care for. All our staff work in a person-centred way, and it is lovely to hear that their hard work and dedication to all our residents have been acknowledged. These times have been hard for everyone not being able to see their loved ones, so knowing that we are offering FaceTime, really helps with the emotional wellbeing of our residents and their loved ones. The activity newsletter has been a fantastic way to keep our relatives involved in what is happening within the home.

The lack of meaningful visits over this last year has been very hard for relatives and residents alike, but it is so reassuring to feel that my mum is being so well cared for. Everything has been done to keep the residents safe, which I am certain has thrown up unbelievable challenges for staff. And
yet, from a casual Skype viewpoint, they always seem to be going about their work with the usual care and good humour. Mum always looks well-groomed, regularly sporting a renewed hairdo, even during the lockdowns, which is a huge boost to her well-being. Many grateful thanks.
Reply from Kayleigh Emsley, Manager at Shipdham ManorThank you so much for this lovely review. The staff have been incredible this last year keeping the morale high for all our residents. We have been so lucky to have been able to continue with having our hairdresser here as she is also a member of staff. A little thing of them being able to have their hair done really boosts their confidence and gives them that little bit of normality during these lockdowns.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.614)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.614) out of 10 for Shipdham Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.714 for Shipdham Manor is calculated as follows: ( (140 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 189 Ratings = 4.714
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shipdham Manor is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Administrator and Activities Coordinator

My favourite part of my job is being able to bring enjoyment into the lives of our residents. I work hard on developing new and exciting plans for activities that meet the changing needs of our residents. When I'm out and about, I'm always keeping my eyes open for new ideas that I can try. Recently, I have taken on the role of administrator, and I am enjoying learning more about the business side of things.

Job Title: Team Leader

I have been working at Shipdham Manor for 25 years now, and I love every aspect of my job. I find it particularly rewarding to build relationships with the residents and offer them the support and care they need. The staff I work alongside, as well as the wonderful residents I get to care for, are the reasons why I have been here for so long. I couldn't imagine working anywhere else, as Shipdham Manor feels like my home away from home.
