Davers Court is a wonderful care home in the heart of Bury St Edmund's. Care staff are very professional and caring not only of the residents but the wider family members and friends too. I was really impressed by their team and the home.

My mum moved into Davers Court in February this year and it was a seamless process. I was so worried as Mum didn’t want to move from home but my concerns were completely unfounded. She has settled in so well. All the staff are amazing, so caring, professional and kind. I have complete peace of mind now that Mum is looked after, happy and safe. Well done Davers Court!

Mum moved into Davers Court in February. The staff and management have been exceptional in getting to know her and us since then. As a daughter, I feel completely at ease knowing Mum is happy and safe in her new environment. The staff have a very approachable feel and are happy to chat and are very informative.

Overall Experience

Mum recently spent three weeks in the Meadows Suite at Davers Court for respite care. She really enjoyed her holiday, was very well looked after and loved the company and making new friends. Davers Court is extremely well run, with professional and caring staff to whom nothing is too much trouble. The whole process from my initial phone call to collecting Mum to return her home was made easy by everyone I dealt with and I had no worries at all about leaving Mum there whilst I was away. Everything was done to make Mum feel at home even though she was only there for a short time, the thoughtful card with a welcome message, an Easter egg and a pretty potted rose plant in her room when she arrived was a lovely touch. I would definitely use Davers Court again for respite or more permanent care if required in the future.

All the staff and carers have been very polite, helpful and professional at all times and help Mum to make the most of each day. They have been particularly efficient at special arrangements such as accompanying her to hospital visits. We were delighted when she was presented with a homemade cake on her birthday!

Davers Court is a top-notch care home, very professionally run, with all the management and staff very efficient, polite and caring. The facilities are excellent, as you would at this price level. I'm particularly impressed by the proactive approach that staff take to deal with situations. A great deal of trouble was taken to make sure that my mother-in-law could personalise her room with extra furniture and belongings. We particularly appreciate the regular newsletters sent out to relatives.

As a family, we've been very impressed with Davers Court from the start. We find all the staff and carers extremely helpful and friendly. The home has a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere and there are all sorts of little touches around the home which give Davers Court its unique character. Our mum has now settled very well, despite it being a massive adjustment from living in her own home. She is very happy with her room and the view she has from her window. She really enjoys the food and especially likes the range of tasty homemade soups for the evening meal. Whenever I visit, the carers on duty are always friendly and cheerful. They're all very easy to communicate with and we are also always kept informed by phone of any issues we need to know about. It's a great comfort to know that mum is being so well looked after by staff who show genuine kindness and understanding towards her. Thank you for everything you do.

I came here for a week's respite to help me recover from a major operation. It has been wonderful. The staff are amazing - nothing is too much trouble. Davers Court is a very happy place, and it has helped me in my recovery to be here. I would not hesitate to come here again if I needed help or friendship.

I would like to thank the manager of Davers Court for all her help when my mum was taken into hospital. An ambulance was not available, neither was an accessible taxi so the manager took us in her car and then travelled from home to pick me up in the evening from hospital when Mum was allowed home. This was amazing care provided for both of us over the above what could be expected. We will always be grateful.

Since Mum moved into Davers Court Care Home she has been treated with the utmost dignity and respect. She was underweight when she arrived, could hardly speak and was wheelchair bound but after just 2 months she is eating well, chatty and now walking a few steps on a frame. She is also interested in her surroundings again and thinks that she is staying in a very nice hotel so we are more than happy with her care.
We understand that there are various activities most days and although we haven't witnessed any as yet they sound very appropriate. Mum loves music and is always singing to herself so any activity involving music would be very beneficial.

We only have one small gripe and because the home was locked down during a Covid outbreak over the Christmas period was probably why communication lacked. We have asked several times for Mum to have her hair done regularly on a fortnightly basis so would be grateful if this is put into place and Mum looks like the mum we know and love again.

I feel having male as well as female carers has helped my husband to accept being in a Care Home. Generally, there seems adequate staff around but sometimes there seems no one. Cleanliness seems good and rooms are always tidy with clutter minimal. The catering seems to be a strength of Davers Court, and by good food, easy selection for residents, and a sense of dignity at the table with good tableware, this gives a feel-good factor. All in all a good experience for residents as well as family and friends.

My aunt became unable to cope at home and I realised I had to find her a care home. She was in the hospital, not because she needed medical care but because she needed personal care and I knew I had to move her quickly. I emailed the home to enquire about availability and I was contacted shortly afterwards. From that first phone call, I realised they were very efficient and helpful. We were allowed to book her in for 28 days of respite to make sure she was happy there and she is now a permanent resident. The staff are really friendly and do their best to accommodate personal preferences. The food is good with a varied choice. I particularly like the cafe area where we can sit when we visit and get refreshments for a small donation. My aunt has settled well and likes to join in with all the activities. I am so pleased I chose Davers Court.

My wife and I visited my sister not long after she moved in. I was impressed by the quality of the environment in the building and my sister's room was lovely. She herself reported very favourably on her new home, mentioning, in particular, the food. I wasn't there for more than 40 minutes and will not be returning any time soon but I have formed a very favourable impression. The staff were courteous and helpful (if a little slow to come to the reception desk). Thank you.

My mother is 96 years old and in good physical and mental health, and Davers Court has provided a warm and secure environment for her. My sister and I can sleep safely and not worry about her.

From an administrative point of view, it's been great; there was a delay in finding a place, and during that time, we were kept fully informed in an open and honest way, and they were very accommodating in letting my mum move into one room and then change to another, more appropriate one later. Her room is beautiful, and she seems well cared for, both physically and mentally.

Overall, very good care. The staff are all kind and helpful, some require more training. Personal items sometimes go astray. Clothes are washed without reference to washing instructions and are therefore ruined. Over-emphasis on independence, which can lead to neglect of personal hygiene. Family care instructions are not adhered to. Management did not offer or make available the pod visits on many occasions during the pandemic which had a significant detrimental effect on the mental well-being of my relative.

Auntie is a very independent lady and found it difficult to accept that she needed 24 hour care at first, but now is settled and happy. I have found the staff friendly and welcoming and keep me informed of any concerns. She has excellent care and is looked after very well. Auntie has a limited diet and they do their best to give her food she enjoys and can eat.

Sophie EvansJob Title:Home Manager

I have over 14 years’ experience in the care sector, working my way up from a Care Assistant, and I joined Care UK in 2016.

I’m passionate about working with the team to make Davers Court the very best it can be. Residents are happy and well cared for; it’s great when one of them wants to tell me about something they’ve enjoyed doing that day, because if they’re happy, we’re happy.

I love leading the team to provide the best possible care and support colleagues internally to be the best they can be and develop in the same ways I have over the years to reach their career goals.

It takes the right people to make a house a home, and the Davers family are a true family home.
