Although very expensive our, loved one was cared for exceedingly well and was very happy and contented at Mills Meadow for nearly three years. The staff were very welcoming and kind to us, and we were informed of any situation concerning the resident. We felt the atmosphere was happy, welcoming, and
part of a big family.

They have been wonderful, kind, understanding and caring with our mum and all of us. We are so grateful that mum was able to get a place here so that with the home's help, we have been able to make the most of mum's last 1 1/2 years. Thank you for everything, and it was so wonderful having so much garden
space for our mother to spend time in.

We are so grateful that we got our mum into this home. She certainly had a love, hate relationship with being here but I believe that was the dementia. We knew she was safe and we couldn't thank everyone enough for all that they did for her. The garden space was certainly a wonderful sanctuary for mum
and myself when I visited. Her end days were hard but Mills Meadow did everything possible to keep her safe and out of pain.

My mother spent the last 3 years at Mills Meadow and passed away very peacefully last week. All the staff treated her with dignity and respect and showed her genuine affection throughout her time with them. We were extremely touched by the compassion and love shown to her and us, her family, on her
passing. The support given to us at this difficult time was much appreciated.
I cannot fault the management or staff and would not hesitate to recommend Mills Meadow to others.

Our father was sadly only at Mills Meadow for 2 and a half weeks until he passed away, but during that short time we have nothing but praise for the care he received.
The staff (both management and carers) were so kind, attentive and lovely to Dad's needs. We would happily recommend Mills Meadow to
all prospective residents.

My mum, needed respite while having an insurance claim repair processed. From the first contact to the last contact there has been absolute professionalism, friendly service. We could not fault the home Mills Meadow nothing was a problem, mum was cared for if she needed anything she asked and received.
3 good meals a day, drinks when she needed, her room was well organised and well equipped wet room, tv in her room, electric bed. We could not have been happier all round. Although we originally thought what a lot of money a week, but in reality well and truly worth every penny.

It is a cheerful, attractive place with a lovely garden to look out on and visit.
The staff are compassionate and engaging. It is extremely well managed and senior people are accessible and extraordinally helpful.
My husband
was eating very little and hardly left his room because of his illness o I have not rated food or activities.

My mum, was originally going to the day centre at Mills Meadow regularly twice a week. She always came out happy and smiling, and the whole team there were so attentive and caring to mum when she was there. They spoke to us about any concerns that they had, the communication between us was so beneficial.
Mum
then came into the actual home at Mills Meadow, sadly only for 2 days, as she passed away very quickly. During the 2 days that mum was there, the kindness and compassion that was shown to her was beyond anything we had expected. Every member of staff, from the ladies in the reception, through to the overnight care team, were just so caring. Not only for mum but also for us relatives too. Nothing was too much trouble, they went above and beyond to make sure mum was comfortable, and well cared for right to the end. Amazing team of people.

Carers have been so kind to mum and she was very very appreciative of the care and help ans she made her recover to walking again. You have kept me updated and informed as necessary
throughout the two weeks. Thank you to every member of the team on the "Sheeran" ward who looked offer and cared for mum.

As a family, we are so grateful to have chose Mills Meadow for our mum. As her needs have increased over the last 18 months, staff have shown her every care and kindness possible. We can relax knowing that she is content and so well looked after. From reception to care staff and housekeeping, everyone
is so friendly, treating residents and family members alike with respect, interest and understanding.
Recently a member of staff visited Mum in hospital travelling 20 miles on her day off because she knew it was hard for any of us to get there. That says it all really. Thank you, everyone at Mills Meadow.

He has been at Mills Meadow since December 2022. He really loves living there and feels very well looked after and cared for. His weeks are always full with activities, socialising and meals in the dining room. He has a lovely view from his room which is important to him as he's lived in the area all
his life.

My aunt was admitted to Mills Meadow for two weeks of respite care after needing support after a fall at home. Despite being in the Christmas/New Year period the management of Mills Meadow responded very quickly to this urgent request and was able to provide 24-hour care for these two weeks. Building
a further understanding of the needs of my aunt, management organised a transfer to another care home (Hartismere Place) for further respite care closer to her own home and friends. Throughout her stay at Mills Meadow staff were very caring. understanding and helpful, and the management team was professional and efficient throughout.

My dad was a resident for the last 7 months and the care all the staff showed him was second to none. They looked after him so well and showed so much patience with him regarding his dementia. He was always kept very clean and smartly dressed. Nothing was too much trouble for all the staff.
He was
always invited to take place with the endless activities and entertainment taking place and was even taken out on day trips. The staff not only looked after my dad but made my mum very welcome on the days she visited, and also other members of our family.
We cannot thank all the staff enough, they all became part of our family whilst Dad was a resident. They all work tirelessly and deserve as much credit as anyone could possibly give them.

Overall I feel the home is good however I have a sister in the dementia wing, I do realise that this is a hugely difficult job for the staff, but it appears to me on numerous occasions when I visit, that there is a definite shortage of staff especially at meal times when most residents heed help. Would
it not be possible to employ more staff at meal times to assist residents? This would then take a shorter time and allow more time for staff to interact with the residents instead of just being left sitting in chairs. At approximately £1,700 per week surely there is room for this within the fees.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Mills MeadowThank you for taking the time to review your experience at Mills Meadow, however, we are disappointed to hear your comments. Our dementia care suite is generously staffed, with a minimum of one Team Leader and three Carers present throughout the day. Staff shift patterns have also been organised so as to provide an increased level of support around mealtimes, and our Lifestyle team are on hand to give additional support during changes in shifts. Whilst our dedicated care team are always on hand to support residents when moving around the suite, residents who are unable to walk often use chairs for their comfort and safety and are mobilised throughout the day. Our care team are also supported by a dedicated Lifestyle team who work to provide appropriate activities and social stimulation that cater to resident's care needs.

My wife, who has Alzheimer's, has been a service user of the Mills Meadow Daycare Club since the autumn of last year. She attends two days a week. The staff are amazing, including the manager. Everyone is made to feel welcome as soon as they arrive. The setting is warm and friendly. The clients are
looked after and can take part in activities to stimulate them if they want to. If not, they can just sit quietly. They have regular visits from children and also live music. From my point of view, it gives me a few hours break each week which is really helpful for my mental and physical health. I am so glad a friend recommended Mills Meadow Daycare Club. I can't praise them highly enough and don't know what I would do without them.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.796)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.796) out of 10 for Mills Meadow is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.821 for Mills Meadow is calculated as follows: ( (187 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 223 Ratings = 4.821
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mills Meadow is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

I’ve worked at Care UK since November 2005.

I absolutely love this organisation and what it stands for. Being promoted to the role of Home Manager at Mills Meadow has been the highlight of my career. Before this, I was the Deputy Manager of Care UK’s Britten Court.

As Home Manager, I believe it’s important to create good relationships with all team members and residents in the home, as well as relatives. You need to be approachable, understanding and sympathetic, but also firm when needed. As well as achieving all the relevant qualifications for this role, I’m trained as a Red Umbrella mental health first aider.

The most important part of my role is ensuring that the highest quality care is provided for residents at all times.

I love seeing residents happy in their homes – it's a sign that the team is doing a good job. I’m proud to be able to make a difference to so many people’s lives in my role.
