Overall Experience

Overall I feel the home is good however I have a sister in the dementia wing, I do realise that this is a hugely difficult job for the staff, but it appears to me on numerous occasions when I visit, that there is a definite shortage of staff especially at meal times when most residents heed help. Would it not be possible to employ more staff at meal times to assist residents? This would then take a shorter time and allow more time for staff to interact with the residents instead of just being left sitting in chairs. At approximately £1,700 per week surely there is room for this within the fees.

My wife, who has Alzheimer's, has been a service user of the Mills Meadow Daycare Club since the autumn of last year. She attends two days a week. The staff are amazing, including the manager. Everyone is made to feel welcome as soon as they arrive. The setting is warm and friendly. The clients are looked after and can take part in activities to stimulate them if they want to. If not, they can just sit quietly. They have regular visits from children and also live music. From my point of view, it gives me a few hours break each week which is really helpful for my mental and physical health. I am so glad a friend recommended Mills Meadow Daycare Club. I can't praise them highly enough and don't know what I would do without them.

I have visited my old friend at Mills Meadow. We had the most beautiful time. The atmosphere was magnificent. The care team were very helpful and the home manager received us with the most warm welcome even though they had never seen us before. My friend said that she was the most lucky person to be living there, where she always had something to do.

Mum has been a resident for a few years now. It gives us great peace of mind knowing that she is well looked after. Mum feels at home in Mills Meadow; she particularly enjoys her daily routine of walking around the garden, weekly hairdressing appointments and going on outings when the minibus is available. In our experience, staff are friendly as well as professional and make an effort to meet the wishes of each individual resident.

I absolutely love this care home, I can’t wait to see the pictures posted on social media after my dads visits. He was reluctant at first but my mum tells me he’s really enjoying the day care. He’s very young to have been diagnosed but with the support provided by Mills Meadow Care Home my mum is getting the well deserved rest she needs and my dad is meeting new people and engaging in fun activities.

The overall experience for my mum since she arrived 18 months ago has been outstanding.
All staff are so very attentive in providing a very high level of both emotional and physical care.
The management, kitchen staff, cleaners and housekeeping also engage with the residents which goes a long way to helping everyone feel “at home”.
The friendly, relaxing, yet professional atmosphere that has been created at the home is a testament to the hard work and commitment of all those working there.

From my experience, I wouldn’t have any hesitation in recommending Mills Meadow to any prospective resident.

In the last four months, Mills Meadow has taken on a new personality. A breath of fresh air has been breathed into it. The staff and management are "invigorated" and "inspired" by the new management team with one member of staff at the helm. The activities for the residents has also improved, which makes life for the resident so much more worthwhile.

My stepdad has been using the daycare services for a few months now. He is so happy when he visits and it is a pleasure to be updated with photos and news about all the activities he does throughout the day. It is a joy to see how happy he is when he is in the amazing care of all the staff.
We have also had the opportunity to spend some days at the daycare centre, enjoying the carefree, fun and different activities available - a particular favourite was watching the staff and families dress up as horses and compete in races. All residents and visitors had a lovely time.
Having a lovely setting for my stepdad to visit, has given my mum the ability to gain some much-needed respite. To be able to see her having the opportunity to relax for a few hours a day, knowing my stepdad is happy and safe, is a blessing.

Thank you

To find the words to express my gratitude to this wonderful team would never be enough. You have given my loved one a reason to smile and laugh. Your smiles must be infectious, your positivity and commitment is so rewarding for the ones you take good care of.
For myself, you give me so much more. The trust I have in you is paramount. I can walk away and smile too, that infectious smile you spread. I gain the time needed to play catch up at home, sleep being one of the most important when I have cared for my loved one, when he gets his night and day confused, spending some nights doing what others would do at a more conventional hour. My guardian angels you all are.
We are always updated on activities, food and any event happenings, invited to take part and greeted as important as everyone is. Social media updates and photos are outstanding.
I too feel appreciated by this wonderful team who welcomes us into their day.

I have so much gratitude to each and every one of this wonderful team.

We rung Mells Meadow ahead to visit our friend. When we arrived, the last on the desk was very helpful. The staff were happy, cheerful and genuinely caring.

The entire experience, from initial contact to moving in and two weeks beyond has been a dream come true.
I wanted safety and support for my Mum in a respectful and friendly environment.
From the first steps inside the door, I was bowled over by the warmth, the space, and the happiness around every turn.
Two weeks in, and Mum is already finding her feet and growing in confidence.
It is a pleasure to visit, and I’m made to feel part of this large family.

We had rung ahead to visit our older friend. When we arrived the welcome from the lady on the front desk could not have been more genuine, offering refreshments after our journey. Staff were very kind and helpful in getting him back to his room - he had been playing the piano for a couple of residents who were singing! They had his lunch ready for him in the dining room after we left.
Our friend said his room was adequate and his bed comfortable.

Thank you for making us welcome.

My aunt was very reluctant to go into residential care but she ended up feeling very comfortable and content there. She was very well looked after and this was particularly evident in the last few months of her life. The staff were extremely caring and went above and beyond what one would normally expect of carers. This was very reassuring for her family.

My mother has been in this home for nearly three years and she sadly passed away in December 2022. I highly recommend this home for the care, support, activities and high level of compassion. The care is of the highest standard and nothing was too much. My mother had dementia, but the care given to her was second to none. I was with her for the last 48 hours and the care home supported me through the process, explaining everything that was happening.

Meet the Team (1)

Julie Wallace
Julie WallaceJob Title:Home Manager

Hi, I’m Julie and I’ve been with Care UK for over eight years, having previously worked as Deputy Manager before becoming Home Manager. Throughout my career, I’ve completed Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications in Supervisory Management. I chose Care UK because of its strong reputation for delivering high-quality, person-led care and its commitment to supporting residents, their families and colleagues. It has given me the opportunity to develop my career while making a real difference to people’s lives.

I believe a Home Manager should be compassionate, approachable and an effective leader. Building trusting relationships, leading by example and always putting residents at the heart of everything we do are values that are incredibly important to me.

My favourite part of the day is spending time with our residents and colleagues first thing in the morning. I enjoy chatting with our early risers over their first cup of tea, catching up with the team and making sure everyone has everything they need for the day ahead. Those moments remind me why I love my job.

Becoming a Home Manager has been the highlight of my career. I'm proud to lead a dedicated team and create a positive culture where residents receive the highest standards of person-led care, and colleagues feel valued, supported and encouraged to grow.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and animals. I love being outdoors, whether it's walking, kayaking or cycling, and I'm also passionate about live music and festivals. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance helps me return to work with the energy and enthusiasm to support our residents, their families and my team every day.
