Generally I am pleased with my wife's care. Just one thing to note because she has lost weight. This is due to her teeth plates top and bottom. The dentist could not fit the impression due to her involuntary movement so recommended a fixative every morning.

Always very welcoming on arrival no matter the time of day or which staff are on duty. All staff are professional and friendly.

My mother is very well cared for and staff are genuinely caring. It's not easy caring for someone who has dementia but the staff show her dignity always and I am very appreciative of everything Mills Meadow Care Home have done for my mother. Thank you.

My dad was in Mills Meadow when it opened and died in 2022. He was very happy and called it home. Mum joined him in 2021, and she is also very happy, as we, as a family, are. First-class manager and office staff. Caring carers and fantastic food,

Any concerns answered - kept informed of carers' concerns. Made to feel welcome.

It's a good care home. Lots of trips and activities for the residents. Friendly staff. It is the same as many care homes at the moment with a lack of permanent staff but the home is trying to recruit. Positions filled by agency staff. It is not ideal as residents prefer regular staff as for many these become a surrogate family and build a bond. On the whole, I would give mills meadow 8/10. The only thing that knocks points down is the shortfall of regular permanent staff. And the food. The kitchen does good selections, but the residents don't understand some of the terms. Instead of calling Hungarian goulash, call it beef stew and they understand. Most like plain wholesome food, nothing fancy.

Normally these guys are reasonably good, but when we visited today the Mother’s Day planter that we had given Mum was not in her room. Asked one of the staff on drink trolley duty where it was? He didn’t seem to understand much English, then after a lot of faffing and asking about they confessed that the cleaner had just thrown it out and we received a mumbled halfhearted apology. The bulbs will flower again next year and can be planted outside, and we wanted to replant some summer flowers in the small planter to bring some colour into a very bland and boring room. Both of us visiting have been reduced to tears by this incredibly thoughtless act, it is not as if no one visits frequently so you have no way to ask before throwing out a patient’s possessions. No respect whatsoever.

We are sorry to read your review, as your review states this is not normally the culture at Mills Meadow.

We want to share our sincere apologies for the disposable of the planter you gifted your mum, our cleaner thought it was a temporary plant. Rest assured we don’t dispose of residents’...

When I was looking for a care home I visited all care homes from Ispwich to Framlingham and decided on Mills Meadow was the best because of the staff, location to the centre of town and the cafe, and all is very friendly.

I object to paying for a coffee in the cafe as this is not necessary when the fees should cover.

My mother, who became a resident of Mills Meadow in March 2019, suffers from dementia, which has become more acute in the past months. The care she has received has been outstanding. The staff I have had contact with have always been immensely helpful and generous with their time, have been kind and considerate, and have always found cause to enjoy plenty of good humour and friendliness. This while all the time displaying the highest standards of professionalism. During the coronavirus crisis, they stayed on top of their game and when I saw my mother for the first time in three months when the lockdown was eased I was delighted to see her in cheerful spirits and not at all alarmed at the fact that she had to wear protective equipment and that I wore face covering, evidence in my view that she had been sympathetically prepared. Mills Meadow staff have shown over and over that they are true carers, not just in job description but in vocation.

Mums transition from her own home to Mills Meadow was traumatic and emotional for all concerned, however, the help we received from all the staff has meant that mum is now settled and seems very happy despite living with dementia. There are lots of lovely touches at the home, most recently the Valentines Lunch at which they had a small teddy bear for each of the residents. This was lovely to see.

Everything would have been excellent if we had our full number of staff. Last night we had two carers and one senior on duty, that was for two units with about 40 residents.

I have talked to the manager about this but I think her hands are tied as to what she can do. The staff we have are caring and lovely people. I moved here in March 2019 and last night was the first night I had trouble sleeping as I was worried about the staff shortage.

I have been very pleased with the care for my mother, who has dementia. It is such a sad condition, but I feel she is cared for by the staff I have dealings with, extremely well. They have shown tremendous patience and talk to Mum as a friend who cares. This is a huge relief to me and my family.

Putting a loved one into a home is emotionally exhausting and very difficult, but I feel Mills Meadow have dealt with the situation very well, especially as Mum may be a more challenging resident.

Most staff are excellent and some do more than expected. Food quality is not as good as it has been in the past. Staff shortages sometimes worry me. Dad sometimes does not get taken out of bed until late morning.

The care I have received has been excellent. I have only one comment - those awful nylon sheets. I am allergic to man-made materials. Had I been warned I could have brought some cotton sheets with me, although I don't think this should be necessary. My daughter has guests staying and would not dream of giving them nylon sheets - she would soon be out of business if she did. I hope my comments will be noted.

I came to Mills Meadow for a two-week rest in May 2019.

I was very pleasantly surprised to be made very welcome by both residents and carers.

The facilities were excellent with a happy atmosphere in every area of the home. I would not hesitate to return to the home if I should need further respite care or indeed in the future on a permanent basis.

I cannot fault the level of care that the staff at Mills Meadow have provided my Dad over the past five months. Everyone has been so friendly and helpful throughout. Nothing has been too much to ask. The Mills Meadow team should be proud of what they are achieving under very effective leadership as in all respects the home is simply excellent! I would have no hesitation in highly recommending it to others.

Mum was admitted on 2nd May 2019. We had looked at lots of care homes and nursing homes in the area, and Mills Meadow stood out as the very best. It was clear that this was a very well run home with simply excellent facilities, capable, efficient and welcoming staff, and just that atmosphere that makes you think "Yes this is the place where I want Mum to be".
Staffing levels - very impressive. Wonderful baths and lovely ensuite rooms. Mum needed a nursing home for a full lift and two carers to do it, but Mills Meadow had the capability to do this.

Unfortunately Mum arrived there at very short notice, and the flexibility of staff was tested and not found wanting. The senior on duty stayed late to make sure she was properly welcomed. Sadly and unexpectedly Mum died very shortly after arriving. I can't really express how very grateful I am to all there for making her last few hours so comfortable. When she died she was in a lovely place surrounded by people who really cared.

Meet the Team (1)

Julie Wallace
Julie WallaceJob Title:Home Manager

Hi, I’m Julie and I’ve been with Care UK for over eight years, having previously worked as Deputy Manager before becoming Home Manager. Throughout my career, I’ve completed Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications in Supervisory Management. I chose Care UK because of its strong reputation for delivering high-quality, person-led care and its commitment to supporting residents, their families and colleagues. It has given me the opportunity to develop my career while making a real difference to people’s lives.

I believe a Home Manager should be compassionate, approachable and an effective leader. Building trusting relationships, leading by example and always putting residents at the heart of everything we do are values that are incredibly important to me.

My favourite part of the day is spending time with our residents and colleagues first thing in the morning. I enjoy chatting with our early risers over their first cup of tea, catching up with the team and making sure everyone has everything they need for the day ahead. Those moments remind me why I love my job.

Becoming a Home Manager has been the highlight of my career. I'm proud to lead a dedicated team and create a positive culture where residents receive the highest standards of person-led care, and colleagues feel valued, supported and encouraged to grow.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and animals. I love being outdoors, whether it's walking, kayaking or cycling, and I'm also passionate about live music and festivals. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance helps me return to work with the energy and enthusiasm to support our residents, their families and my team every day.
