Unfortunately when my mother could no longer live alone, we had to make the difficult decision to look for a care home, we looked at a few, but Mills Meadow was always my top choice, and it was a big relief to me when she was excepted. From the moment we entered, we were amazed at the surroundings, the staff were very kind , and luckily mum like it too. Unfortunately I live overseas, so I don't see the everyday runnings, but the staff are amazing, and I'm sure dealing with dementia residents is not easy. Mum always seems happy, when we have our weekly chats, and says the staff are more like friends. My mum's room is lovely, with a lovely patio outside, and a large bathroom.

Can't thank Mills Meadows staff enough for all they do. I'm truly grateful

Celia arrived at Mills Meadow aged 100 to convalesce after 8 weeks in hospital. She was looked after with love, kindness and great patience. The staff were all lovely. Sadly she died very peacefully after just over 2 weeks, tenderly attended to by mum's carers who could not have been kinder.

Although very expensive our, loved one was cared for exceedingly well and was very happy and contented at Mills Meadow for nearly three years. The staff were very welcoming and kind to us, and we were informed of any situation concerning the resident. We felt the atmosphere was happy, welcoming, and part of a big family.

They have been wonderful, kind, understanding and caring with our mum and all of us. We are so grateful that mum was able to get a place here so that with the home's help, we have been able to make the most of mum's last 1 1/2 years. Thank you for everything, and it was so wonderful having so much garden space for our mother to spend time in.

We are so grateful that we got our mum into this home. She certainly had a love, hate relationship with being here but I believe that was the dementia. We knew she was safe and we couldn't thank everyone enough for all that they did for her. The garden space was certainly a wonderful sanctuary for mum and myself when I visited. Her end days were hard but Mills Meadow did everything possible to keep her safe and out of pain.

My mother spent the last 3 years at Mills Meadow and passed away very peacefully last week. All the staff treated her with dignity and respect and showed her genuine affection throughout her time with them. We were extremely touched by the compassion and love shown to her and us, her family, on her passing. The support given to us at this difficult time was much appreciated.

I cannot fault the management or staff and would not hesitate to recommend Mills Meadow to others.

Our father was sadly only at Mills Meadow for 2 and a half weeks until he passed away, but during that short time we have nothing but praise for the care he received.

The staff (both management and carers) were so kind, attentive and lovely to Dad's needs. We would happily recommend Mills Meadow to all prospective residents.

My mum, needed respite while having an insurance claim repair processed. From the first contact to the last contact there has been absolute professionalism, friendly service. We could not fault the home Mills Meadow nothing was a problem, mum was cared for if she needed anything she asked and received. 3 good meals a day, drinks when she needed, her room was well organised and well equipped wet room, tv in her room, electric bed. We could not have been happier all round. Although we originally thought what a lot of money a week, but in reality well and truly worth every penny.

My mum, was originally going to the day centre at Mills Meadow regularly twice a week. She always came out happy and smiling, and the whole team there were so attentive and caring to mum when she was there. They spoke to us about any concerns that they had, the communication between us was so beneficial.

Mum then came into the actual home at Mills Meadow, sadly only for 2 days, as she passed away very quickly. During the 2 days that mum was there, the kindness and compassion that was shown to her was beyond anything we had expected. Every member of staff, from the ladies in the reception, through to the overnight care team, were just so caring. Not only for mum but also for us relatives too. Nothing was too much trouble, they went above and beyond to make sure mum was comfortable, and well cared for right to the end. Amazing team of people.

From the initial visit to see if you could help with respite care to mum leaving has been an exceptional, outstanding service. Carers have been so kind to mum and she was very very appreciative of the care and help ans she made her recover to walking again. You have kept me updated and informed as necessary throughout the two weeks. Thank you to every member of the team on the "Sheeran" ward who looked offer and cared for mum.

As a family, we are so grateful to have chose Mills Meadow for our mum. As her needs have increased over the last 18 months, staff have shown her every care and kindness possible. We can relax knowing that she is content and so well looked after. From reception to care staff and housekeeping, everyone is so friendly, treating residents and family members alike with respect, interest and understanding.

Recently a member of staff visited Mum in hospital travelling 20 miles on her day off because she knew it was hard for any of us to get there. That says it all really. Thank you, everyone at Mills Meadow.

He has been at Mills Meadow since December 2022. He really loves living there and feels very well looked after and cared for. His weeks are always full with activities, socialising and meals in the dining room. He has a lovely view from his room which is important to him as he's lived in the area all his life.

My aunt was admitted to Mills Meadow for two weeks of respite care after needing support after a fall at home. Despite being in the Christmas/New Year period the management of Mills Meadow responded very quickly to this urgent request and was able to provide 24-hour care for these two weeks. Building a further understanding of the needs of my aunt, management organised a transfer to another care home (Hartismere Place) for further respite care closer to her own home and friends. Throughout her stay at Mills Meadow staff were very caring. understanding and helpful, and the management team was professional and efficient throughout.

My dad was a resident for the last 7 months and the care all the staff showed him was second to none. They looked after him so well and showed so much patience with him regarding his dementia. He was always kept very clean and smartly dressed. Nothing was too much trouble for all the staff.
He was always invited to take place with the endless activities and entertainment taking place and was even taken out on day trips. The staff not only looked after my dad but made my mum very welcome on the days she visited, and also other members of our family.

We cannot thank all the staff enough, they all became part of our family whilst Dad was a resident. They all work tirelessly and deserve as much credit as anyone could possibly give them.

Meet the Team (1)

Julie Wallace
Julie WallaceJob Title:Home Manager

Hi, I’m Julie and I’ve been with Care UK for over eight years, having previously worked as Deputy Manager before becoming Home Manager. Throughout my career, I’ve completed Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications in Supervisory Management. I chose Care UK because of its strong reputation for delivering high-quality, person-led care and its commitment to supporting residents, their families and colleagues. It has given me the opportunity to develop my career while making a real difference to people’s lives.

I believe a Home Manager should be compassionate, approachable and an effective leader. Building trusting relationships, leading by example and always putting residents at the heart of everything we do are values that are incredibly important to me.

My favourite part of the day is spending time with our residents and colleagues first thing in the morning. I enjoy chatting with our early risers over their first cup of tea, catching up with the team and making sure everyone has everything they need for the day ahead. Those moments remind me why I love my job.

Becoming a Home Manager has been the highlight of my career. I'm proud to lead a dedicated team and create a positive culture where residents receive the highest standards of person-led care, and colleagues feel valued, supported and encouraged to grow.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and animals. I love being outdoors, whether it's walking, kayaking or cycling, and I'm also passionate about live music and festivals. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance helps me return to work with the energy and enthusiasm to support our residents, their families and my team every day.
