Montana Care Home is a residential and nursing home with strong values, allowing residents to choose their own way of life and personalised support.

They provide person centred care based on respect for human dignity and the personal development of each individual to promote a secure and loving family atmosphere and care for people, regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, religious persuasion or belief, cultural or linguistic background, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability. They offer long-term care but can accommodate short-term care (including respite) when there is availability.

The Home is set in a traditional single-storey house, now extended to provide spacious accommodation in the very heart of rural Suffolk near the culturally historical town of Bury St Edmunds. They have accommodation for 19 people (16 rooms - 3 of them can be used as double rooms with en-suite facilities) and provide residential care of the very highest quality to older people (male and female) who are in need of care through frailty, disability or choice.

Friends and family visit at their convenience and are able to spend as much time with their relatives as they wish.

Funding & Fees What's included?

Weekly Charges per Person

  • Self-Funded Residential Care: £1400 – £1500
  • RESPITE Self-Funded Residential Care: £1000 – £1200

FEES
The Home charges the current rate of fees paid by the relevant placing social/ health services. For more details about fees and the methods for paying them, please see our separate Terms and Conditions of Residency (and Financial Agreement for Self-Funders).
Residents contributions to fees (or the full amount for some who self-fund) are usually collected by four weekly standing order. The fees are reviewed each year and usually change (subject to government guidance) each April.
OUR CURRENT FEE LEVELS ARE BETWEEN
£1350 -1500 PER PERSON PER WEEK
£ 1400-£ 1500 PER WEEK FOR A DOUBLE ROOM Single occupancy
Most people are eligible for financial assistance with their fees. This can be explained in detail by the relevant Social/ Health Services Department, but typically consists of a payment from Social Services
according to their assessments of their needs, with the remainder paid by you from your benefits or from your family
Other people have more than the “minimum level of savings” (set each year by the government) which leads to them having to pay the full care home fee (they become “self-funding”). For these people the NHS help by making a small contribution to fees.
Should your circumstances change, and you can no longer meet the full level of fees, Social Services will be contacted to assess your needs which usually culminates in them paying a finite amount, the outstanding balance being met by your family.

These prices are only a guideline, please contact Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion Benedictines to find out the exact price for your requirements.

I hadn't been for a while and what a greeting I received. Always so warm and smiles from everyone. I was made to feel welcome and able to have lunch nothing was to much trouble. The care I witnessed was done with dignity and from the heart.
Keep up the wonderful work Sr Thaya and staff. Thank you.

I have been visiting an extremely close friend over the last two weeks and each time I am so reassured that the Sisters of Montana House are giving the best possible care. There is always a calm, friendly and peaceful atmosphere and the attention to detail of the complex needs of our friend, is exemplary.
Visitors are always warmly welcomed and the room has a home from home feeling, which helps our friend feel safe and secure at all times. Compassion is the essence which gives him great support. Thank you for all you do.
Reply from Sister Moses, Care Manager at Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion BenedictinesThank you so much for your thoughtful and generous words.
We are deeply touched by your appreciation. It means a great deal to all of us to know that your visits have brought reassurance and comfort, and that the calm, friendly atmosphere we strive for is felt by those who come through our doors.
Our Sisters and staff take great care to ensure that every resident feels safe, valued, and at home, and your recognition of this is truly encouraging. Compassion is at the heart of our mission, and we are grateful that it brings support and peace to your dear friend.

It has been my good fortune to know Sister Thayawathy and her staff, too. My husband and myself have known the home and all its staff since 2006. My mother-in-law and two very close friends. Even now, I visit my close friend; at the surgery, I am known as "for a close friend" sadly she has no family.
Care and kindness to all those living there is at a high standard. Other points are that all residents see the health staff work on a continuous basis. Their nutritional care is also of a high standard, also spiritual weeks

As a close friend of a resident at Montana Care Home, I've had the opportunity to visit regularly and see firsthand the quality of care provided. What has impressed me most is the warm, welcoming atmosphere that greets you the moment you walk through the door. The staff consistently show genuine kindness,
patience, and respect, not only toward the residents but also toward visiting friends and family. It's clear that they take the time to understand each person as an individual, which makes a tremendous difference to those living there.
My friend has settled in remarkably well, and I've noticed positive changes in their confidence and overall wellbeing. The team encourages social interaction, meaningful activities, and a sense of community, which helps residents feel connected and supported. The home itself is clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully maintained, creating an environment that feels safe and homely rather than clinical.
Communication with friends and relatives is excellent,

Always so pleased with the level of care, Compassion and patience the sisters and staff show my Nan, she isn't always the easiest resident I'm sure.
They continue to support & encourage her independence and mobility where they can, even as she continues to grow weaker.
They encourage her to join group
and resident activities, when she is often reluctant which she enjoys and talks about even if she hadn't wanted to participate initially.
We are kept updated about any health concerns and sent photos and videos of outings and events.
As guests/visitors we are always made to feel welcome, offered tea/coffee and opportunities to participate in planned activities.
A truly lovely, welcoming home from hom environment.

We are very pleased with the sisters'care of mum. The home is like a home and not an institution in any way. The sisters are cheerful, friendly, helpful and communicate well.Mum is quite difficult at times but they are consistently caring. All the meals are cooked for the residents. They are very welcoming
to visitors and invite them and the community in for occasional meals and home cooked Indian take-away. The residents are taken out for a meal in a near-by restaurant and for summer outings.
The rooms are clean and pleasant, with a window onto attractive well-kept gardens.
The sisters are very watchful over health needs and mum is always visited by a Dr if there is any cause emerging. She has underlying health conditions but she has been kept in v good health.
There are groups that mum is encouraged to be part of in the week, and she regularly engages with chapel services.
Mum receives a daily newspaper & has tv in her room so although she is not very sociable, she has stimulation

My Mother was admitted to Montana in urgent circumstances. The Director and staff gave us great confidence that the process would be handled professionally, and indeed her move into the home was very smooth. Staff have been both efficient and caring, and they are understanding of her character and
particular needs - and always kind. The outings in particular do my Mother the world of good as she needs variety and distraction.

A good care home offering very individualised care. The home is small so ideal for someone with dementia. The setting is pleasant and the rooms are near to the communal areas offering the option of moving easily between the two. The food is of a good standard and there is a good range of organized activities.

My Mother was a long term resident several years ago and I still visit friends and volunteer at Montana. It is a wonderful carehome with exceptionally caring staff and Sisters. Nothing is too much trouble and residents have nothing but praise and are really happy there. It has a real home from home
atmosphere and is extremely well led. There are various activities for the residents and outings are also arranged. I would not hesitate to recommend Montana to anyone requiring care.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.844) out of 10 for Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion Benedictines is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 59 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.844 for Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion Benedictines is calculated as follows: ( (585 Excellents x 5) + (91 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 684 Ratings = 4.844
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion Benedictines is based on 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8, which has been reached with 59 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
