Montana Care Home is a residential and nursing home with strong values, allowing residents to choose their own way of life and personalised support.

They provide person centred care based on respect for human dignity and the personal development of each individual to promote a secure and loving family atmosphere and care for people, regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, religious persuasion or belief, cultural or linguistic background, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability. They offer long-term care but can accommodate short-term care (including respite) when there is availability.

The Home is set in a traditional single-storey house, now extended to provide spacious accommodation in the very heart of rural Suffolk near the culturally historical town of Bury St Edmunds. They have accommodation for 19 people (16 rooms - 3 of them can be used as double rooms with en-suite facilities) and provide residential care of the very highest quality to older people (male and female) who are in need of care through frailty, disability or choice.

Friends and family visit at their convenience and are able to spend as much time with their relatives as they wish.

Weekly Charges per Person

  • Self-Funded Residential Care: £1400 – £1500
  • RESPITE Self-Funded Residential Care: £1000 – £1200

FEES
The Home charges the current rate of fees paid by the relevant placing social/ health services. For more details about fees and the methods for paying them, please see our separate Terms and Conditions of Residency (and Financial Agreement for Self-Funders).
Residents contributions to fees (or the full amount for some who self-fund) are usually collected by four weekly standing order. The fees are reviewed each year and usually change (subject to government guidance) each April.
OUR CURRENT FEE LEVELS ARE BETWEEN
ÂŁ1350 -1500 PER PERSON PER WEEK
ÂŁ 1400-ÂŁ 1500 PER WEEK FOR A DOUBLE ROOM Single occupancy
Most people are eligible for financial assistance with their fees. This can be explained in detail by the relevant Social/ Health Services Department, but typically consists of a payment from Social Services
according to their assessments of their needs, with the remainder paid by you from your benefits or from your family
Other people have more than the “minimum level of savings” (set each year by the government) which leads to them having to pay the full care home fee (they become “self-funding”). For these people the NHS help by making a small contribution to fees.
Should your circumstances change, and you can no longer meet the full level of fees, Social Services will be contacted to assess your needs which usually culminates in them paying a finite amount, the outstanding balance being met by your family.

These prices are only a guideline, please contact Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion Benedictines to find out the exact price for your requirements.

I have been connected with Montana Care Home for many years, initially as a visitor and volunteer but now as an Independent Living Tenant.
The care home is highly respected in the local community and is operated by a community of dedicated nuns with locally sourced helpers.
The nun’s are invariably
qualified nurses and able to deal with most circumstances that may arise.
Montana Care Home is set in pleasant grounds and gardens which are appreciated by residents, visitors and relatives alike.
The Chapel caters for the spiritual needs with Mass celebrated most days of the week. I would thoroughly recommend the Montana Care Home to anyone who is looking to rehome an elderly relative in need of constant care.

I have known the Sisters of Grace and Compassion for many years and thought highly of them - and I have been visiting and talking and reading to three of the residents for some time - I feel we are good friends. The Sisters and staff are very responsive to their needs, and aware of them as individuals
who matter greatly. I think the standards of the home, Montana, are very high.

Montana Care Home warmly welcomes guests and the Sisters show genuine care towards residents. My Grandma is well cared for and has developed a trusting, supportive relationship in just 6 weeks. Her room offers a pleasant view of the gardens, and she enjoys attending mass and the sing-alongs. The staff's
prompt response to calls and texts day or night provides great comfort knowing my Grandma is well looked after.

I previously asked why Auntie was kept in a bed and not moved into a comfy chair. The doctor's review explained that Auntie would be likely to fall out of the chair when left unattended, so the question was answered - Auntie stays in bed for her own safety.

Dad was extremely well cared for. Montana has a welcoming atmosphere, all the staff are very friendly. Over the weeks of Dad's physical decline he was treated with enormous compassion and the support that my sister and I received at the end was comforting and wonderful.

My father resided at Montana Care Home for three years. He was cared for with love and compassion and every need was met. The staff are absolutely wonderful. They have a serious side of course but they also have a great sense of humour when appropriate! Dad's death was dealt with so beautifully and
with grace and compassion. Thank you for caring for him so well.

Montana House is in a pleasant rural location, surrounded by well-kept gardens which can be viewed from the window of at least some rooms, there are garden seats for residents' use. Entrance and exit procedures appear to be reliable, keeping a record of those entering and leaving. The first place to
see is the chapel, which clearly is central to the life of the place. Residents who cannot attend Mass can watch it on TV in their room and are brought Holy Communion. Our friend's room has a lovely view, hospital-style bed and appropriate furniture. There is an ensuite bathroom, our friend is bedbound so we have no experience of meals or social activities.

The sisters at Montana do their very best to care for my parents, who have been residents for over one year. During this time, we have been impressed by the swift response to any of their ailments, ensuring prompt treatment by the local health authorities.
My parents particularly value being able to
continue with their religious practices in the adjacent chapel. On the occasions when they are unable to attend, the sisters take the trouble to provide the service on their personal TV and also send one of the sisters to administer the sacrament of communion. Words can not express how much having this facility has impacted positively upon their well-being, as they are both very devout Catholics.
The sisters appreciate the importance of having both of them together in one room despite their different care needs.
In addition, I am most impressed by the kindness of members of the local community, who give up their time to support and entertain my parents, especially the book club.
Reply from Sister Moses, Care Manager at Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion BenedictinesDear Patricia, thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I am very grateful to you. We will do all we can to support our residents with personal-centred care.
With love and prayers,
Care Home Manager.

My friend is in a place where they take good care of her. I have been amazed about the service they offer to the residents and visitors. A good balance has been given to her and she gets to have her personal choice and freedom as well as providing her with care. My friend has improved since he has been
a resident at Montana. She enjoys the food and the mealtimes as she gets to have the company of other residents. She has also made friends with other residents. She is getting along with members of staff. She goes to Mass most Sundays. There is very good flexibility for my visits. I have been highly recommending the place to lots of my friends and I hope their stay is like this.

Contact with residents has revealed that they are well cared for, well fed and generally entertained as much as their capabilities allow. Pleasant surroundings in which they can enjoy being outside, weather permitting. Various organised outings and entertainments have been greatly enjoyed. Owing to
good and strict management, all have been free of Covid which is a great accolade to those in charge.

I visit Montana Care Home regularly and find the atmosphere there very calm, peaceful and very supportive towards the residents. Residents are always happy and relaxed and speak highly about the facilities, care they receive, attention to health and well-being, food and drink and leisure activities.
I have observed the staff and Sisters are friendly, competent and resident-centred always and well led by the in-house registered manager. Montana Care Home regularly achieves the "5 Star Outstanding" Award from CQC and is certainly among the very best of care homes in the country.

I visit regularly, and there is such a nice peaceful atmosphere and supportive care. It is excellent on all fronts. I love going there to visit and seeing how

My mother has been a resident at Montana for 15 months, during which time her care needs have increased significantly. The care team continue to proactively respond to all mother's needs and are very attentive to her specific requirements. Mother looks forward to mealtimes and always enjoys the food
which she is served. The manager and her team made a great effort to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and organised a really lovely garden party for residents, relatives, friends and staff. We are enormously grateful to all at Montana for the TLC and the peace of mind which comes from knowing that Mother is being so well cared for and for the support and reassurance provided to my family members.

My aunt arrived at Montana Care Home in February 2022, and she appears to have settled well.
I found the staff to be professional, thoughtful, and extremely considerate to both residents and visitors alike.
The home and grounds are well maintained and my aunt's room has a lovely homely feel to it.
The chapel is beautiful and the library offers a quiet space for residents to enjoy.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.845)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.845) out of 10 for Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion Benedictines is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 59 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.845 for Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion Benedictines is calculated as follows: ( (587 Excellents x 5) + (90 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 685 Ratings = 4.845
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion Benedictines is based on 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8, which has been reached with 59 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
